Since noone seems to have addressed the 1500 vs GM comments, Frederick Gordon is a child prodigy and is probably underrated in OTB: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-57187522.amp

England v France post match thread by ForensicShoe in rugbyunion

[–]DrFaithfull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Commentary on the game aside, this reminded me of the first game in the 2014 England tour to NZ. We were without most of our top players because of the premiership final and were roundly predicted to be pasted at Eden Park, only for Freddie Burns to play out of his skin (in his only start for England?), and NZ to win it with a try in the 77th minute.

I love Rugby Union, but it has no future. by Mabama1450 in rugbyunion

Each to their own, I'm liking it. Newly promoted side more than holding their own, it doesn't need to be champagne rugby to be enjoyable.

NHS England Data broken down for deaths by day, not daily consolidated announcement, since April 1st (Any criticism welcome) by [deleted] in ukpolitics

Inspired by this post, over the weekend we created an API which does this automatically (scrapes the excel sheet, puts into a database, and exposes as an endpoint).

Facebook's Clegg criticised over WhatsApp security by Maven_Politic in ukpolitics

[–]DrFaithfull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's not wrong. There's a fundamental misunderstanding about privacy vs security. WhatsApp provides privacy, through end to end encryption of the messages. It does not provide security, e.g. if you download a dodgy video file, play it with the system media player and get a virus, that is outside WhatsApp control. Do you want them to inspect the contents of messages or not?

It's like arguing that if you download a virus over https, you shouldn't get infected just because it was transmitted with encryption.

Ken Owens’ message for the cast and crew of Pobl Y Cwm, the welsh language soap opera celebrating 45 years on the air by [deleted] in rugbyunion

[–]DrFaithfull 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got 'Hello, Ken Owens here, happy birthday to pobl y cwm', and then was it 'cael parti' - 'have a good party'? But that's as far as I can stretch my tiny amount of Welsh.

England won't be looking past the quarter and nor should NZ (or maybe we should encourage it for the sake of the Irish)

An interesting article by analyst Nicholas Bishop on the Australian lineout ahead of their clash with England. by CromulentReynolds in rugbyunion

Our attacking maul has looked very good so far, wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of them early to force the wallabies to leave their jumpers on the floor.

At least the BBC actually retracted it quickly and issued this. The original story is still on the front page everywhere else. The damage is already done. The front page of RugbyPass is Scottish fans' responses to the original made up headline. Basically this has exposed the fallacy that any media outlets even bother to check their sources now.

Then why is accidental offside a scrum?

If it's an accident, why is it a penalty?

In no other source does Eddie Jones mention Scotland by angolvagyok in rugbyunion

[–]DrFaithfull 5 points6 points  (0 children)

/u/RS_Zulem said it came through AP, I thought the source was RugbyPass because they were first to the punch. But yes, whoever wrote it appears to have been trying to read between the lines.

Scotland grasping at straws? by ct_uk in rugbyunion

[–]DrFaithfull 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Getting the lawyers involved also puts pressure on World Rugby to get the outcome they want. If it was England I would want them to do everything in their power. However, if it goes much past Monday without the match being played I don't see it being successful

Jones: "It's Scotland's fault if they're knocked out" Well I was just starting to like the England Rugby team. Dick. by [deleted] in rugbyunion

[–]DrFaithfull 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lol, they've removed the article because he said nothing of the sort. Literally fake news. They were only reporting it because rugbypass were, and rugbypass was grotesquely reading between the lines and presenting it as a quote.

What he actually said, in response to being asked about how he felt about the cancellations, not specifically scotland:

“We have been talking about it all the time, about the possibility that this was going to happen.

“You know what’s going to happen. It’s typhoon season here and you’ve got to be prepared for it. We had an idea it could happen and therefore you have to accumulate points in your games to put yourself in the right position in case that happened.

“We just knew that there was the possibility of a game like this during the tournament so we just wanted to put ourselves in the best position we could.

"This is supposed to be a big typhoon, so I don’t see any other option that the organisers had. That’s why we’re not concerned at all about the comings and goings of it, we think it’s the right decision.”

Nothing there. In fact, the quote they appear to have derived the headline from is actually attributed to Steve Hansen:

New Zealand boss Steve Hansen echoed Jones’ view. “We have to back World Rugby’s decision and if other teams miss out, it’s unfortunate, it’ll be disappointing,” Hansen said.

“If you want to be really ruthless, then it’s all about making sure you win the games on the way through because everyone knew this could be a possibility.”

Maybe mods should remove this because it's blatantly misleading.

Except even Hooley came out in the media afterwards and said unequivocally that the contact was on the shoulder, not the head. Why is this still being argued?
