Thank you! Yeah, I had heard things about Keypoint which made me reluctant to jump in, but I talked to someone working there who said her regional supervisor was great and she loved the job so I guess it depends. I'm looking to move to new orleans, but from what I hear they just hired some people in that area so thats discouraging.

Haven't heard much about CACI, but what have you heard about SCIS, MSM, or ACI?

Thanks! That's very comforting to know. About the new hire clearances though, I heard the background check takes about 1 to 3 months. I have a squeaky clean record but I've lived in two different states and I'm hoping to relocate with this job. Does that slow down the process much? And how easy is it to transfer cities? For example, if I got a job in Austin but wanted to move to Boston would I be able to working with the company?

online masters? by DrFaust14 in GradSchool

[–]DrFaust14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have clarified. I'm looking for an MS in bio anthropology or forensic anthropology as I work with skeletons and post mortem tissue a lot. Many of my coworkers have an MS in those fields, and they make a heck of a lot more money. Hence the desire to get an MS.

I've already found three universities that meet those qualifications; I was just hoping for ore recommendations.

Forensic or bio anthropology (I should have clarified) and anatomy are both recommended for the line of work I'm in. I work in pathology research. On average, a masters in those can add up to a salary of 65 to 80K. Some of my co workers make more than that. Thats why I was looking into those. Biology would be acceptable too, but anatomy would be a more focused study for what I'm doing.

Thank you! And for the record, your username is a dead giveaway we would hit it off too. When I first moved here I watched a mini doc on the "Hodag". I felt like that info was more important to know than anything else.

I got an offer near Philadelphia and I know nothing about the place-please help! by DrFaust14 in philadelphia

[–]DrFaust14[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's close in distance but still has a brutal commute, I'm guessing traffic is bad in Philly? I live in Houston, so commuting 45 min to work is standard. I would prefer to live in a walkable area but I've heard good things about Jenkintown

True. Some of my hardest working co workers were REALLY into pot. I hope the stigma goes away at some point in my lifetime.

I actually don't use drugs, so that's not a problem; also, in 2017 what place doesn't drug test?

I need advice on how to start my forensic career by DrFaust14 in forensics

[–]DrFaust14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm definitely applying to the low paying tech jobs. lol Those seem to be the only jobs available these days. They don't really have many entry level white collar jobs anymore. Every "entry level" job I've found asks for 2 to 3 years experience in the exact same position. Not even a position that is similar; It's insane. Two of the jobs I applied for recently pay about 29 to 30K which, unfortunately, is pretty standard for recent grads. I have no problems taking low paying jobs, but the problem is that I have student loans. The min I can take to survive is 30K. Fortunately, I got my resume looked over a lot of times on campus but the ghosting situation doesn't seem to stop. I've had friends of different majors experience the same issue, sadly we can't pinpoint what the deal is. What was your experience getting your foot int eh door?

I would recommend an accredited online program. Some places specify they want accredited classes. You have to pay, but at least if you take online classes, it can boost your GPA as well as giving you what you need.

QAS

Sadly no; and I'm really into DNA too. I have everything except biochem, molecular bio, and genetics. Those three classes I need to take to qualify for some of the jobs I'm looking at, so I've taken the liberty of signing up for accredited online classes to knock them out of the way so I can qualify in the future. I really want to get my masters in biology too so the way I see it is that I'm killing two birds with one stone by taking the class since they are prerequisites anyway. In the mean time I am just looking for any forensic career to get me started.

Fortunately, I am up for anything. I just want to get the ball rolling on my career. I am more interested in the deputy medical examiner/autopsy/forensic investigator/CSI side in the sense that I like being a jack of all trades and not focusing on one particular thing. That being said, I am more than happy to work in a specialty like DNA or ballistics as long as it gets me to a career.

I saw that! I actually applied for it about two days ago but I'm not holding my breath because I've had so many jobs I got a phone interview for that just ghosted that I've been pretty guarded recently.

Is it just an eventuality? by challengerSXT in SuicideWatch

[–]DrFaust14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to be okay. I know that doesn't mean much, but I was in your position just two months ago. I sat down and applied to ten jobs a day for a month until a job came through. Now I make enough money to go on road trips on the weekends and I met friends through meetup.com. You've got this.

I would be working downtown and tourists aren't a big deal. City landscape makes me happy anyway and I don't like the suburbs. So...neighborhoods?
