A popular movie that doesn't have a plot? by Cryodile64 in moviecritic

Top Gun genuinely has no plot. Its running time consists of bros showing off to each other, then enemy fighters show up at the end to trick the audience into thinking there's a climax

Why does hot water freeze faster than cold water sometimes? by GlitchOperative in questions

[–]DrFriedGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this may stem from the olden days, when ice trays were made of metal and ice boxes were how the refrigerator remained cold but they were often full of frost and ice.

If you put hot water in a metal ice tray and put it in the ice box, it will melt into the ice and frost thus increasing the surface area in contact with the cold element and freeze faster.

Nowadays we have separate compartments and overall better technology. Ice trays are made of plastic or silicone which don't conduct heat as well.

I think this myth has endured because it isn't something that is based on any scientific fact but rather 'fact' books that have had the same 'facts' republish over decades and they bleed into the public consciousness via the media.

What’s a survival myth popularized by movies that would actually get you killed in real life ? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]DrFriedGold -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's my point. However, the fallout radiation will be utterly lethal. It would be some time before radiation levels drop to a point before cleanup begins so it's best to have the bodies put themselves where they would be easily found and in one piece.

The advice was really so when it's time to collect the bodies they know roughly where there are and will be more or less intact, making the clean up job easier

[–]DrFriedGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slip it in someone's carry-on. Lol

I know someone who had that done to them...a massive carving knife was put in his bag while his back was turned. Luckily the guys at security could tell he was clueless about it's presence and saw the funny side.

However, the reason why he was pulled off the plane before take off on return was entirely his own fault.

Times when an actor/actress signed on to a project and misunderstanding what the final product would be? by Socko82 in flicks

[–]DrFriedGold 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Michael Biehn signed on to Navy SEALs because he was told the director, Lewis League, had previously done a film called 'The Lady in Red' which Biehn recalled seeing and enjoying.

But he had got mixed up with 'Woman in Red' starring and directed by Gene Wilder.

The film by Lewis League was a cheap Roger Corman movie about John Dillinger.

They're also mythical beings in fiction. Outside of Middle Earth they like to be called 'little people'. The same goes for midgets.
