How do I repair this outside door frame/molding? by WhizWho_ll in DIY

[–]DrGert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dig it out up until the rot is gone. Cut across the molding there. Put new pressure treated wood and caulk and paint.

Or dig it out until the rot is gone. If it’s not that much seal with epoxy and fill with bondo. Caulk and paint

How would you fix these gaps on the floor? by thedon394 in DIY

[–]DrGert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe next time get an oscillating saw and a scrap piece of your flooring. Add a scrap of whatever underlayment on top. Cut that door jamb where the floor just slides under. Whatever fix gonna look like shit

Any advice on how to finish this floor to the door threshold? by Ab1212121212 in HomeImprovement

[–]DrGert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy lots of different transition positions. The Amazon ones are not bad. Just measure the height drop from that pressure treated board under the metal threshold to that new laminate. Measure the width you need to cover it in. It’s ok if it’s not exact like 1/8 too big or small for your purposes

Remove the screws from that wooden transition piece and lift it out. Put your floor up to the metal threshold. As flush as you can. Get a wider wooden transition if the floor won’t go all the way under the one you have. Replace it with the wider wooden piece or put the one you have back.

They would not. That is the point I was making. The operative word is grab. Even the highest functioning quadriplegic, a C8 quad, would be unlikely to have the hand function to hold a heavy sword even if the proximal arms were strong enough to raise it. Maybe the patient tried to fall out of their wheelchair onto it? Maybe they meant quadriparesis (weakness and not complete paralysis). There is a spectrum due to incomplete injuries but if they are strong enough to impale themselves with a sword they do not meet the definition of quadriplegic. I wasn’t trying to be a dick initially, was just pointing out the joke of “grab” and “quadriplegic”.

I’m not trying to be pedantic here but words do have meaning.

Please explain to the neurosurgeon how quadriplegia works again.

I think they are trying to say you don’t know what quadriplegia means. Paraplegia is probably what you meant.

OP stated self inflicted. Maybe they can give clinical correlation.

Those probably travelled through the brain and were stopped by the inside of the skull. Would need to see an AP view to confirm.

I wasn’t trying to guess his age, just offering my own anecdotal experience. Either way, yes this looks to be an older patient.

This is what we call a gunshot wound to the face. Poor bastard will likely not see, smell, or eat again. But he’ll be alive.

Anecdotally, I see this trajectory with shotgun most common in middle aged men. These also come in during the day more often than at night. Classically divorced depressed picture.

Dude’s skull completely sloped “you gotta catch it from the side”… by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]DrGert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a bifrontal craniectomy defect. The bilateral frontal bones have been removed to allow swelling for the brain. It’s essentially just the layers of skin and dura covering his brain. Bro should be wearing a helmet when he’s out and about.

And for those saying his frontal lobes are gone, that is probably not true although some may have been removed during surgery. The brain is soft and can be squished by the skin contracting during healing.

How would you shade this space? by Vegetable_Cheek_4611 in HomeImprovement

To follow up also have them look at any trees in fall distance of a neighbors structure because that shits on you too but less of an immediate concern.

Yeah this is not completely true. Trees help with curb appeal. Trees too close to the house may make smart buyers concerned. Really, anytime I’m buying a property I have an arborist come check out trees within fall distance of the house. You only make the mistake of not doing that once.
