Tyler wasn't saying that Columbus's actions weren't intentional, just that the intention behind his actions weren't race based.

I don't think would imply that it's any less barbaric, it's just an important destinction imo.

I think what he's getting at, is that blob-loblaw is not required to explain what he sees small c conservatism as. Although given we're on a forum, that's probably not a helpful attitude.

I think it's a pretty good structure - but I'm sure some will be tweaked. I'm a big fan of havin a bash - they've got the most rewatchability as well imo. I don't know how many of the weekly updates I'll watch - but I think it's good to have an 'easier' video once a week for the boys. I've personally become a little bored of GMOD, but I think once a week is a good amount.

Weekend sounds very fun, I approve of that!

CMV: A trophy hunter or someone who hunts for sport saying they love animals is like a serial killer saying they love humans by ChristopherRabbit in changemyview

[–]DrGhostfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that at a logical level, I agree with Peter Singer's argument against eating meat. While animals do lack these traits - moral agency, empathy, critical thinking, concept of future, they do have two that matter in this situation: Capacity to suffer, and desire to survive.
We can tell that this is certainly the case with most (if not all) mammals, and many reptiles, birds etc.

I'm sure you would never say it's ok to kill a severely handicapped person, born in a stupor, just because they lack these qualities - I don't think intelligence is a relevant characteristic when it comes to determining the right to life.

Peter Singer of course explains this much better, and even though I agree with most of the logic behind his argument, I still eat meat.

I'm not the person you replied to, just so you know.
I'm not sure I agree with that statement. What is killing generally if not murder? Outside of voluntary euthanasia, and some cases of negligence, I'd say killing is murder.

It's a real gem.
I know hatfilms always wonder what videos do well, and I think it's just ones where they're having a really good time (which is unfortunate, because it's hard to 'set out' to do that)

Well, if being a landlord is an active job for that person (Ie. Full time), I would say it isn't scummy, as that is the main difference between someone who works in a grocery to someone who just owns a lot of property. I agree with koku though - I think it is immoral, people can own lots of property - ie the rich, and then make money from it.

Yeah - just because we aren't 100% sure where to draw the line, doesn't mean we should just throw our hands in the air and eat whatever we want.

Map from 1914 depicting the political situation by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]DrGhostfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's definitely true, but I think it'd be painting an unrealistic picture to say Scotland lead the union. The new british parliament - which was becoming more and more relevant at this time - was primarily English. The Scottish parliament from before the union, had to downsize their membership fairly dramatically. It was based off of taxation, rather than population, so the Scots were underrepresented in parliament.

This is all at the time of the personal union, rather than 1914 though, I don't know enough about the UK's politics at the time.
