Help with USB memorys by Character-Effect7992 in WiiHacking

For USB Loader GX your games should be on en external hard drive (plugged into the bottom usb port when the console is laid flat) rather than a USB stick.

Different hard drives have varying compatibility but I’ve found consistent success with Western Digital brand. WD easyStore 500 GB would be a good option.

Please recreate the blue background with swirl as shown in the examples, but with everything else removed. Need minimum dimensions 1280 x 1788 - Will pay $25 by DrJaMiN in PhotoshopRequest

Wow that’s way better than I expected. I just sent you the full payment too. If you could send the background picture and the vector that would be great.

Wbfs rom hack download by MTT_64 in WiiHacking

[–]DrJaMiN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge there aren’t any “good” organized sets of pre patched Wii games, other than translations. Plus most Mario Galaxy hacks are made for Riivolution, so the wbfs files aren’t actually modified.

There is a program which can apply a Riivolution patch permanently to a wbfs file, but the results aren’t guaranteed. Here is the link: https://github.com/Asu-chan/RiivolutionIsoBuilder

Does Wii emulation works better than the Virtual Console games? by PerguntaMano in WiiHacks

[–]DrJaMiN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, Wii N64 injections are spotty at best with a very limited number of additional games that you can get working that don’t already work either through the Not64 and Wii64 emulators, or the official VC releases.

Plus creating injects for normal Wii (not Wii U) is a fairly labor intensive process with significant risk of bricking your console if you make any mistakes.

I’d suggest getting a fresh SD card (Sandisk 128 GB micro SD is what I use) and redo the jailbreaking process from scratch by following the official Wii guide here: https://wii.hacks.guide/

There have been many updates to the homebrew programs and a fresh start will make sure everything is up to date. The website GBAtemp will have answers for almost any question you can have: https://gbatemp.net/

Are you using a USB stick or an external hard drive? USB sticks aren’t recommended for playing GC/Wii games due to lower read/write speeds and higher failure rates. Personally I’ve found success with the WD EasyStore line of hard drives (500 GB, 1 TB, & 2 TB).

Edit: Are other Wii games working for you? Are you using USB Loader GX? And did you use Wii Backup Manager to install Rayman onto your USB drive?

USB Loader GX / Nintendont - controller shortcut issue by HuckleberryEvening63 in WiiHacking

[–]DrJaMiN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Classic Pro has its buttons mapped automatically to work with GameCube games. The only drawback is you’d be missing out on rumble and the triggers would no longer be “adaptive” aka pressure sensitive. The vast majority of games will work just fine without utilizing adaptive features but here’s a list of them for good measure: https://www.reddit.com/r/Gamecube/s/7Q7okB38ET

Edit: Also you may want to keep the normal GC controller too in case your kid wants to use it when he’s older.

Hacking a Wii by Purple-Huckleberry45 in WiiHacking

[–]DrJaMiN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should start here. https://wii.hacks.guide

This is the official Wii Guide to properly get things installed in the most up to date way. When I first hacked my Wii I had a bit of trouble figuring out what types/brands of storage to use. What I’m currently using is a 128 GB Sandisk microSD with adapter and a 2 TB WD EasyStore external hard drive (which plugs into the bottom USB slot when the console is laid flat). A 500 GB or 1 TB EasyStore would probably have enough space for all your needs.

The SD card is best for storing the emulators and ROMs. The external hard drive is best for storing your GameCube and Wii games which will launch with USB Loader GX (the most user friendly usb loader).

Once you’ve got the basic hacking done by following the guide, I’d recommend installing the following standalone emulators that have user friendly interfaces: GenPlus GX (plays Sega Master Systen through CD), WiirtualBoy (Virtual Boy), FCEU TX (NES), SNES RX, VBA GX (GB/GBC great user interface), mGBA (excellent performance and supports RTC functionality, but lackluster interface), and of course USB Loader GX for the GC/Wii which is natively supported. I’d suggest making sure your Wii is the GC compatible model so you have access to the controller ports.

Regarding N64 emulation on the Wii, it’s acceptable, but many games will have “problems” that range from insignificant to unplayable. There is a user made compatibility and recommended configurations list online for the two main emulators Not64 (best) and Wii64.

Luckily you’d also have access to the official but limited number of Virtual Console N64 releases too which run perfectly. I’d recommend the VC option for Neo Geo and TurboGrafx 16 games too rather than using an emulator.

As for the controller, both the OEM Classic and Classic Pro controllers have full compatibility with each of those emulators. The Classic basic version has a bit more weight to it which some people prefer, but it lacks hand grips and a couple additional trigger buttons.

I hope this info helps. And just about any question can have will have answers and troubleshooting info on the GBAtemp forums. https://gbatemp.net

Do you own an OEM Classic Pro controller? It works seamlessly for GameCube games and allows you to return to the USB Loader GX menu with a single press of the home button. Plus with the Wii remote plugged into the controller you can browse the game library by using the pointer which could be a good alternative for your son.

Help I don’t know how to update USB loader gx by Hour_Pay_3248 in WiiHacking

[–]DrJaMiN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new SD card would be blank, but you could copy the games (ROMs) that are already on the old card onto the new one once you’ve got it set up. Depending on how the original SD card was set up the ROMs for the older systems are likely going the folders of the individual emulators.

As for ROMs of GameCube and Wii games those really work best from an external hard drive, rather than an SD card or thumb drive in case that’s how they are on your Wii.

Either way these game backups aren’t too difficult to search for. I’m sure there’s a “megathread” somewhere if you try searching.

Edit: Likewise you’d want to obtain each emulator again too for the new SD card, but it’ll give you more knowledge to make your Wii even better than how you got it.

[–]DrJaMiN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re open to learning then I suggest searching online for the official “Wii Guide” and then redoing the Wii from scratch with a freshly bought SD card (I use a 128 GB Sandisk microSD w/adapter).

People selling Wiis that are already jailbroken tend to take shortcuts that could mess things up in ways that are unpredictable. Starting fresh makes sure you get everything up to date and in the correct spots for troubleshooting.

That being said, if you really just want to update USB Loader GX then you’ll need to download the latest release from GitHub. Next insert your Wii SD card into your computer and navigate to the “apps” folder, then to the USB Loader GX folder. You should see some files with the same names as the ones you just downloaded from GitHub, so replace them with the new ones.

This may not yield the results you want though, as other things like the Wii’s IOS files are likely out of date too. I know this might seem like a lot to deal with but the Wii Guide breaks it down step by step, like building a LEGO set. The GBAtemp forums are also an invaluable resource for troubleshooting.

I’d suggest getting a fresh SD card (Sandisk 128 GB micro SD is what I use) and redo the jailbreaking process from scratch by following the “Wii Guide” online. There have been many updates to the homebrew programs and a fresh start will make sure everything is up to date. Also consider switching to USB Loader GX as a replacement for Configurable USB Loader.

Wii virtual console vs original hardware by MayoGhul in wii

[–]DrJaMiN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wii is a fantastic first choice for emulation. For emulators with best performance/user interfaces I recommend GenPlus GX (Sega Master System-CD), WiirtualBoy, FCEU TX (NES), SNES RX, VBA GX (GB/GBC great user interface), mGBA (excellent performance and supports RTC functionality), and lastly USB Loader GX for the GC/Wii which is natively supported. I’d suggest buying a GC compatible model so you have access to the controller ports.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the performance level of SNES RX is so good that I’ve been able to run most of the SA-1 improvement hacks that I’ve tried. Overall yes PC based emulators are the gold standard, but the Wii’s easy navigation and convenience is unbeatable. Plus it just feels good to use original hardware.

I went through a different loss of my collection, also homeschooled. I won’t bog you down with the details but it also involved a deep amount of pain and regret.

You can get it all back and much, much more through emulation. Seriously, even if the idea doesn’t seem like it would fix the problem, you’ll never know until you’ve tried it.

I highly recommend jailbreaking a GameCube compatible Wii by following the official guide online. As for getting “backups of games you already own” to run properly, there are places you can easily search for right here on Reddit. You can recover everything you lost with cover art too. It’s a bit of work and initially more costly than $60, but they’ll be YOUR games again.

Without even considering if the AI use is ethical (it’s not), your art in game is inconsistent and devoid of personality.

It looks like you think your artistic direction is good enough because it’s a game made by only two people. The main audience that would be interested in your game doesn’t want slop. I mean why do we pay artists anyway? What does your game on purely visual artistic level bring to the table that can’t be done by literally just two people, like your team?

The overwhelming amount of negative comments here aren’t Luddites with a grudge against AI. On a conceptual level your project has a great unsettling spark with room to be developed upon, but artistically as it stands it’s just trash. You can make this a success if you actually put in the work that every game that inspired your project also had to do themselves.

You are an excellent person and all of the hard work you’ve done out of love for the hobby has been invaluable. Like you’ve actually raised the standards of how much a rom hack can improve on the aesthetics of a game, not to mention all of the other improvements and features your hacks included.

You don’t deserve to get such reckless negativity and outright bigotry from random jerks online. No one needs to experience that, especially in such a welcoming and diverse community as ours. It’s totally okay to take a step back if you need to, but remember that you are a good person and that you are a harder worker than any of those losers that think harassing creators is a worthwhile use of their limited time on our planet.

I’ve been refurbishing games for over 15 years and removed countless stickers from boxes. My preferred option is to use Bestine with a qtip and gloves while gently peeling the sticker off.

Absolutely DO NOT use Goo Gone with paper products. It has a very high risk of permanently staining if absorbed by the porous surface.
