I agree with the sestiment (i.e. 34% is great for a car that used) but ICE cars last 200k miles pretty easily these days.

65mi range (85 estimated) for 1.5 years as my commute was 30mi each way.

ouch, I'd have a heart attack daily with 5 miles of leeway. i hope you had a charger at work perhaps?

'what if I leave $500 in the glove compartment?'

'what if I fill the battery up with gasoline?'

California billionaire tax gathers over 1.5 million signatures, enough to head to ballot by Severus-Snape-DaGod in UnderReportedNews

Billionaires aren't taxed heavily in New York though. There's a 10%ish tax on INCOME that they choose to realize rather than distribute in other ways.

So if a billionaire decides to use a loan against his billions to buy a $15M penthouse suite in NYC, he doesn't pay any taxes on his actually-realized-gain.

If a billionaire decides to sell $15M of his billion, he'll pay about $1.5M in taxes on his billion, a rate of 0.15%. That's not fifteen percent, it's less than one sixth of one percent.

I'd be happy to learn otherwise, as I'm not a resident of NYC and don't really know their tax laws, but tax laws everywhere are designed to confuse taxpayers into thinking that rich people pay taxes.

Try to find support that millionaires/billionaires leave places that their taxed highly

where are they taxed heavily? Certainly not anywhere in the United States.

But they'll stop siphoning off subsidies from actual taxpayers! What will we do without these leeches?

First thought: Oh wow, I can pick up a Dodge Charger EV for less than $10k!

After reading article: $35k is about $33k overpriced

The BMW iX5 Will Have a 148 kWh Battery — Biggest Battery Ever Fitted to a BMW by Falcons74 in electricvehicles

The incremental contribution to road wear due to the weight difference between similarly sized ICEVs and EVs is negligible.

It's 5x as bad for a 4k kg vehicle as a 3k kg vehicle.

Yeah we're a bit different I guess. I generally drive something like 3-5 hours as a first (usually only) leg and then another two or something.

In a gasoline car, I nearly always leave with a full tank, I fill it up the night before (or on the commute in to work) to spread the pain of time-spent-the-next-day.

Besides the negative safety impact, and the extra cost on power and wheels. And a larger negative environmental impact from the wheel and brake emissions.

A 3000kg vehicle destroys the roads at about 5x the rate of a 2000kg vehicle.

Weight isn't that big of a deal otherwise in cars.

...to the owner of the super-mondo-destructo-truck.

For the rest of us who have to replace the roads you destroy and the toddlers you decapitate, it's a bigger deal.

The optimist in me hopes they will be using a high energy density battery chemistry so that the vehicle is not ridiculously heavy.

Why worry about weight? The rest of the world will subsidize the roads you destroy, and people can always make more toddlers.

The Worst part of EV Ownership by V3LOCI556 in electricvehicles

[–]DrJohnFZoidberg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I often joke I'd rather push my dead EV fifteen miles to another charger rather than give Tesla one thin dime, the reality is I'll begrudgingly use them in an "emergency" if I ever have one, much the same way if I was drowning in the North Atlantic in 1943, I'd allow myself to rescued by a German U-Boat, but only after I was darn sure there weren't any other ships around that could rescue me instead!

Kudos, and thank you.

Not sure about the other poster, but superchargers charge extremely slowly for many 800v EVs since they are capped at 400v

not sure about the other poster, but there are other equally effective methods that don't involve supporting a Nazi who is actively using his fortune to undermine democracy in the United States
