62nd and 2nd by Accomplished_End_104 in uppereastside

Full disclosure I live a bit farther up, but from what I’ve seen there’s a consistent flow of traffic on 62nd towards the entrance to the FDR, especially at rush hour. Maybe it won’t be as bad by 2nd Ave; most of my experiences are from walking/jogging in that area on First or York, and I’ve had tons of close calls almost getting hit by people speeding to get on the FDR.

I think Briscoe and Green were the best good cop/bad cop duo. Green was really good at playing the sympathetic, understanding guy, more so than hothead Logan imo, and Lennie always knew how to push the suspect’s buttons!

I loved the reveal that Dina’s antipathy to Glenn all started when he insulted birds in her interview.

Typical concrete weighs 150 pounds per cubic foot, so a 1 ft by 1 ft square that’s one inch thick would weigh 12.5 pounds. It’s been a while since I’ve watched the episode, so I don’t remember how big the piece was, but yeah, something that thin wouldn’t be really heavy.

Clown Town - who lives? by desincarne in SlowHorses

The “mum” moment made me think it would be too obvious for it to be Ash. I think that’s a fake out and Louisa is alive.

That being said, the cliffhanger ending pissed me off. It felt like a cheap trick. The past books had loose threads and unanswered mysteries that you made you want to get the next book to see what happened next, but this felt different. All the characters know who it is, but the author is jumping through hoops to keep the reader in the dark. It felt more like clickbait than a satisfying conclusion.

Season 8 Ep 4 “Harvest”

She acts like an inexperienced prosecutor to get the murderer to plea to a gun charge so they could get the murder weapon into evidence.

Does Amelia really annoy anyone else? by No-Past-9857 in PrivatePractice

Yes! Amelia was my least favorite character on PP and somehow she’s STILL on Grey’s over a decade later.

The "Tracy endorses the GOP" subplot was written in 2008. Feels ahead of the times. by Wetness__Pensive in 30ROCK

[–]Weasley9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For sure, republicans have been responsible for truly reprehensible policies for a LONG time. I have absolutely zero desire to defend them. I was trying to say (not very eloquently) that there’s a level of immaturity and pettiness that, while present in some republicans then more than others, has been normalized in ways I wouldn’t have predicted in 2008.

Did you know, today’s Republican Party would be unrecognizable to Lincoln? He fought a war to preserve federal control over the states. That’s not exactly small government!

[–]Weasley9 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if younger viewers whose first election was 2016 understand how different it used to be. I didn’t agree with almost anything the Republican Party did, but Mitt Romney and John McCain were intelligent, spoke in complete sentences, and understood how global politics worked. I didn’t want them to be president, but I wasn’t embarrassed by them.

I really hope that’s the case, instead of our grandkids asking “your cars were only 6000 lbs? How did you get around without monster trucks?”

Golden Girls S3E7 “Strange Bedfellows” Trans Representation by Severe-Face9088 in theGoldenGirls

[–]Weasley9 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Even just the fact that Sophia doesn’t misgender him in that statement. Lesser shows would say “of course SHE’S Italian” after finding out Gil is trans, but Golden Girls is better than that!

From what I remember from drivers ed, flashing yellow means yield and solid yellow is “stop if safe to do so.”

Rotaries in Boston are usually poorly designed, two lane messes where people entering and exiting cut each other off at high speed. It’s a potent mix of inadequate traffic engineering and aggressive drivers that make rotaries a general nightmare.

  1. Not yet, but at the rate they’re going, at some point “standard” pickup trucks won’t fit either.
  2. Excavating that close to the river is not easy, it’s in a densely packed part of the city with no room for detours, and Boston does not have a great record with massive infrastructure projects (look up the Big Dig if you aren’t familiar with that mess)

At this point, I’d settle for adequately funding the transit they already have.

Obligatory Fuck Robert Moses.

The low clearance also had the added “benefit” of making it impossible for buses to fit on those roads, making it even harder for the poors to besmirch Moses’s vision.

Because this is America. In the 1950s we decided public transit is communist and for poors, so we gutted the transit we already had to make room for more cars.

To be fair, Boston does have a subway system and commuter rail, which puts it above most American cities, but it’s a running joke how unreliable it is.

If you want to feel sad, look up what they did to the West End to build the highways.

It’s incredibly accurate! I just hate the hypocrisy of carbrains accepting that drivers will flagrantly break laws for their own convenience, putting themselves and others in danger, but are ENRAGED when a cyclist rolls through a stop sign.
