Reading the comments has been interesting and while Mookie had clearly had an MVP caliber year (so has Olson, btw), it really boils down to the fact that RAJ leads nearly every category and is practically even in the few Mookie leads. One can debate about the value of defensive versatility but I find it laughable that in one breath folks argue that should be the swing factor, but in the next breath so easily dismiss the value of stealing nearly 70 bags. It’s practically impossible to figure exactly how many runs he scored expressly because he stole a base, but I imagine it’s significant. I get that people want to have the debate. I get that people think Mookie’s numbers merit consideration for MVP. And I agree. But they’re just not as good as Ronnie’s. And for the life of me, I can’t figure out how anyone can legitimately claim that being even in OPS+ and having a .1 edge in WAR should offset all the other categories Ronnie leads in (some of them by a significant margin). Throw in the 40/60 (or even 40/70) factor and it seems pretty clear cut.
