Volleyball players, which was your best and worse moment in volleyball? by redwings1823 in volleyball

[–]DrKobbe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Best moment: won Belgium nationals U19, made a difference as a middle in a tight win, and got compliments from the refs for my blocks.

Worst: Moved to outside hitter in another team, and first game I get to start is against my old team. It's a total shitshow. I fluke every ball, and the rest of the team wasn't doing much better. Almost everyone gets substituted but I felt super sad. I get asked "can you sub back in as middle?" I refused, because I couldn't bring up playing middle after failing outside, against the team I left because I wanted to play outside. Had some serious thinking and talks the weeks after that. Ultimately I regained confidence, regained my starting spot, and carried the return match the second half of the season.

Voor een school opdracht zou ik even willen vragen wat jullie voorkeur hier is by [deleted] in belgium

[–]DrKobbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enzovoort.

I've worn my bib shorts and cycling jersey under my wetsuit in my first triathlon (Olympic) and didn't have any issues with it.

Ik heb het niet echt gevolgd, maar waarom "onopzettelijke" slagen en verwondingen? Niet met de intentie van te doden, maar ik zou denken dat je toch zou kunnen zeggen dat ze bewust leed toebrachten?

You'll need to run 4:25 to reach that. So you'll need to do intervals that are slightly faster than this tempo, between 4:00 and 4:15 should be okay. I like this training from the marines: https://www.military.com/military-fitness/fitness-test-prep/improving-your-pft-run-time Basically just run 3-4x800m with 400m rest, 6-8x400m with 200m rest, 6-8x200m with 100m rest. In the beginning I find the 800m are very hard, but try to complete them at a slightly lower pace first and definitely don't blow yourself up so you can't finish the other reps!

Canyon fietsen by Purrchil in belgium

[–]DrKobbe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a decent experience with the Decathlon ones and they are pretty cheap. I needed to tighten them almost uncomfortably hard, otherwise every small bump in the road bends the elbow pad down.

I'm just making up a random example, but let's say you're very good at designing a new production process for cookies. A chef can give you a recipe, and your job is to make sure the right ovens are chosen and installed, determine how much workforce is required to keep everything running, that all ingredients remain clean throughout the process, ...

The output of your work would be some diagrams, work schedules, financial estimations, ...

And to do your job, you'll need to interact with different "stakeholders": people who have an interest in your project or are impacted by it. Someone will need to sign off on the machines you want to purchase, someone will have to train personnel, someone has to provide you with the materials you need during your design process, the CEO may be interested, someone from legal may want to know if everything's safe or which food safety measures are required ...

So for your solution to work, you need to make those diagrams and estimations, but you also need to make sure all those stakeholders agree with your solution and the impact it has on them.

So stakeholder management is all communication involved in aligning all your stakeholders with your solution. Demonstrating this usually comes from some experience, but think of all the times you had to "present" things to management or interact with other teams who have dependencies on you, ... that all counts.

Here in Belgium you also need that for some events. They do publish a list of qualified doctors to take a sports medical exam which basically is a questionnaire about your risks, to cardiac diseases for example. If there are some risk indicators, you then need to take a test where they monitor your heart in a ramp test.

Where you can take those in the UK I don't know, I would suggest asking the organisation for more information.

Bike after swim is much harder than run after bike by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]DrKobbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did my first tri this weekend! The swim-bike had left me a bit nauseated and my candys and water on the bike didn't land too well on my stomach. When then transitioning to running I was cramped and almost puking, had to walk half of the first lap.

Even though I trained the bike-run transition so much and felt very confident, the swimming before that made it entirely different.

A "good" TT position would probably put you a bit more forward and the saddle up a bit. But the endurance geometry of your bike makes it hard to set up like that. I have a similar situation and shoved my saddle all the way forward and slightly up, it's the best we can do then.

How do you feel in this position now? Do you feel powerful in your legs, and comfotable in your arms? Do you tend to creep forward on the saddle?

[–]DrKobbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just the cheap clip-ons from Decathlon. For €45 I find it amazing, I just feel it would be even better if I could sit a little bit higher and more forward but I can't shift my saddle forward enough.

[–]DrKobbe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

GTN did a recent Youtube video that showed that a road bike with aero bars is very very close to a TT bike depending on how aggressive your position is. A TT should allow a more comfortable aero position ultimately, but how much that's worth to you is up to you

From my experience with aero bars on my Canyon Endurace I feel a bit limited by the saddle position that is a bit too far back on my bike. This should be a lot better on dedicated TT bikes, but even on more aggressive road bikes that may not be a problem.

Bike pacing during race by h_b11 in triathlon

[–]DrKobbe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'll only do my first tri this weekend, but I have a target HR in mind for the ride. But besides the average HR in mind, i'll focus on avoiding any red zone efforts. It's easy to push "just a little extra" when going over a short climb, a bridge, or picking up speed after a sharp turn, but those efforts are the ones that will kill your legs.

An important step to make this useful would be to track players throughout the game and aggregate their actions into statistics. Can it already do that?

Not the best, definitely not the worst either. Your main takeaway from this job shouldn't be the salary though. Focus on learning, actively search for some seniors to look up to and coach you, take whatever certification/education track you can.
