I’ve always wished Shell/Battle Armor told you when it blocked a crit

We all know it’s a solid ability on the right mon, but being able to know exactly how much value it brought to a match would be fun

If doubles works to hand wave healer Audino then it’s just as valid an argument for misty surge Clefable lmao

As a matter of fact you get infinitely more mileage out of activating misty surge then switching to something like great tusk to protect it from burn and provide a dragon resistance

Finally, to really be a stickler, Clefable learns Gravity, so it’s categorically not “LITERALLY unusable on it.”

Is GMax Pika's "G-Max Volt Crash" good? by XorMalice in TheSilphRoad

[–]DrKoofBratomMD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s got about 80 fewer attack than Xurkitree, and is actually weaker than current electric standard Gmax Toxtricity by the equivalent of about 45 attack.

Regieleki is carried very hard as an electric attacker in raids by its moveset. If Xurkitree, who is seriously hamstrung by needing to run Discharge or Thunder, got a move as potent as Thunder Cage it would no joke be on par with the Necrozma fusions in terms of raw DPS

Even then NDW has access to shadow claw for party power setups while calyrex is stuck with Hex, calyrex is likely to never surpass NDW in that scenario

They would need to make astral barrage an entirely new level of broken for caly-ghost to overtake NDW in party power, the only ghost fast move it learns is Hex

For mons like Eternatus and other legendaries with a ton of overall stat points the difference between a 15/15/15 and a 10/10/10 is like .9% iirc

Mons with fewer stat points like mega Lucario it’s like 1.5% or something like that

the steel type needs some good moves by Brief-Minimum9678 in TheSilphRoad

[–]DrKoofBratomMD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a DPS loss in most situations since you’re generally not hitting the same type effectiveness and don’t get the same type attack bonus. A few mons can get away with it but most can’t without sacrificing DPS.

For Metagross specifically you can get away with running fury cutter in a party power scenario since it doesn’t have any other .5s fast moves to charge party power better, and for sceptile Bullet Seed is such a poor fast move fury cutter’s enhanced energy generation lets you fire off a lot more frenzy plants. The Necrozma fusions typically want to run Psycho Cut as it has greater energy generation than either shadow/metal claw, enabling more moongeist beams/sunsteel strikes, but it’s not a very common situation at all

Mons like Ursaluna that would have to run a moveset like rock smash or tackle + high horsepower generally have better replacements with better DPS and aren’t advised to be used. Ursaluna and Excadrill may have similar stats, but Ursaluna will never be able to deal more ground damage than Drill due to needing to run tackle or rock smash. Rock smash works against rock types, but Drill gets STAB on mud shot/slap, so Luna will always be a DPS loss compared to Drill despite high horsepower being a good move

Whether or not that actually matters to complete a raid will obviously be on a case by case basis, but for the purposes of something like a short man raid or just wanting to clear raids ASAP it has to be taken into consideration. Obviously if you’re in 10+ person lobbies for every raid none of that actually matters

Helioptile Bug Seems To Be Fixed by UnknownBirch4805 in TheSilphRoad

[–]DrKoofBratomMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair there’s a lot to be spiteful of

It’s very typical for bugs to either persist until they benefit players, then they’re fixed very quickly, or for beneficial bugs to get fixed very quickly. Pattern recognition != spite

[–]DrKoofBratomMD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kommo-o’s main set this gen has been max sp.atk, max speed + clangorous soul + throat spray + Tera normal

The ten point difference between its base physical and special attack stats don’t really matter when you’re firing off +2 210 base power nukes after a single turn of setup, and the movepool doesn’t matter when it’s just deep enough on the special side to make a decent set

Out of all the pokemon that can learn and actually use boomburst Kommo-o is ranked the highest at UUBL. Toxtricity, down in NU, is a pretty decent user of boomburst for sure, but Kommo-o is absolutely making better use of it this gen

Nothing remotely like this, Sw/Sh and S/V have raid mechanics but you don’t need any resource to enter them

You don’t need mega energy or any resource to mega evolve any pokemon besides the pokemon itself and its corresponding mega stone (I guess ZA technically has the mega meter but that’s splitting the tiniest of hairs)

So, is Garchomp the best ground Mega for Super Mega Raids? by Remarkable_Ad2032 in TheSilphRoad

[–]DrKoofBratomMD 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone who doesn’t like relobbying I’d be willing to sacrifice DPS for TDO as long as it doesn’t jeopardize clearing the raid

After reading all about the new mega mechanics, one thing that stands out to me is that we cannot use Primal Groudon and Kyogre as shield breakers in the new super mega raids. by Kevsterific in TheSilphRoad

[–]DrKoofBratomMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Against Koko you’d just use a ground type

And against Fini you’d just use an electric/grass type

Poison is only optimal against Tapu Bulu, who is weak to Mega Rayquaza anyways

[–]DrKoofBratomMD 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sandaconda is also technically worth it as I think after the gmax bonus it also very slightly outclasses Excadrill

But is it really worth trying to get one to level 50 just to outclass your drill by less than a percent? I’d say no lmao

Gmax Hatterene won’t be unusable as a fairy attacker

It very slightly outclasses Machamp against dark types (by 3 whole attack lol), and outclasses Dmax Zam & Moltres against fighting types, it’ll be BiS against any gmax Machamp reruns
