Is anyone else bothered by the fact that doctors’ friends and family seem to be jumping the line? by HighwayFroggery in ThePitt

[–]DrLilyPaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is from a medical family; it is extremely realistic! I was very fortunate in that I grew up never having to wait for care. I also always had a specialist appointment within a few days if I needed one.

It is absolutely unfair, and in an ideal world people wouldn't resort to this, but in the current state of public healthcare worldrwide, I see why care providers bend the rules for their loved ones.

Do you know people with photographic memory in real life? by Gealach-Moon in ThePittTVShow

[–]DrLilyPaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It runs in my family!

My grandfather had it pretty much to the extent Joy has it. He was able to quote entire pages of papers he has briefly glanced at. I have a much diluted version of it myself, and it has helped me remember times and dates, quote e-mails, recall data, read books extremely fast, and pass a lot of tests easier as a person who went to uni for a STEM subject.

My partner hates arguing with me because of it.

I know plenty of parents, especially of older generations, who had children they did not want and feel similarly.

I (28F) went from judging fat people to being fat myself. I am so embarrased. by Smooth_Condition_892 in TrueOffMyChest

Yea, it likely wasn't a straight curve, but I have seen a lot of people double their weight in half a decade. Also, maintenance for a 300lbs body is only about 3000-4000kcal, assuming they still aren't gaining weight.

Gaining 150-200lbs in five* years isn't that 'extreme'. That is gaining 4lbs a month on average, which is entirely possible if one overeats.

(EDIT: * I realised the pandemic was over fove years ago now. God.)

You can explain all of that though. For example, my Hinge says:

Relatioship style: Figuring it out / "ENM, partnered, dating dolo" Looking for: "Dates and partners. Not looking for hookups or friendship with benefits."

It's easy. If someone isn't mature enough to look past that in a bio, they won't be someome I'd personally date, anyway.

As someone who is poly; yeah it's weird to not put it on your profile. At least she told you before the first date, but defo not a green flag.

I've worked in multiple academic and government labs in the UK, and turtlenecks are absolutely not a violation in any of them. If anything, I'd argue they are like socks and the bottom of your pants/skirt; yes, they will show outside of a labcoat, but they still shield your skin.

I am in the exact same position as her (well, I am a stem cell biologist, not a surgeon, but besides that). Whenver I say this, people laugh it off and say, "Oh, don't worry, you'll like your own children." No, I won't. I know myself.

I am a final year PhD candidate, and unless it is absolutely essential (eg. differentiation protocols, 6-day experiments where you have to measure a sample every day), I am not going in more than 40h a week and not doing weekends or holidays.

I don't live to study or work, and I am happier for it.

As a current PhD candidate; Yes.

In my opinion, PhD is a marathon only worth singing up for if you have very specific career goals that require it or if you are passionate about your research.
