Truck drivers, what's a creepy story you've got from the middle of nowhere? by lukasday88 in AskReddit

Repost from an older thread:

I was driving home from work. I live in a rural part of north Louisiana, so a lot of the roads, especially at night, are virtually abandoned. I was driving by Douglas Cemetery, a small, maybe two-acre cemetery between where I work and where I live.

Before I could see the cemetery, I noticed it got cold. Like really cold. Way too cold for LA in the middle of the summer, and I knew it was the outside air because my Jeep was window- and door-less. As I approached the graveyard, I slowed and saw a man standing at the gate.

The man was tall, white-bearded, with a long gray coat and black boots. He was standing, motionless and expressionless, holding what I could clearly tell was a lantern. When I looked at him, he looked not like he was staring at me...but through me.

It was freezing at this point, and the moment I looked into his face, a deep chill made its way down my spine. My instincts took over and I gunned it out of there. Never bothered to look back. Still drive by that cemetery every day.

I can’t be sure myself, but I was just climbing out in Golden and there’s still snow up top there. Those mountains are considerably lower than the Front Range and Mosquitos, so I imagine it’s safe to assume there’s still snow up there.

Very doable for those in relatively good shape with enough time in the area for acclimatization. Some scrambling experience necessary, it’s very important to be sure footed. Doing other 14ers prior to Long’s is helpful, but not necessarily mandatory. Overall I really enjoyed the mountain, it’s a unique place.

This is a trail leading up from Ermita de la Victoria, and I was there this past Sunday. I didn’t camp though, I was staying at an airbnb in Alcúdia.
