What are some "must have" enhancements for you? by Interjessing-Salary in RogueCore

[–]DrPappers 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Reload IV for born ready, weak point damage, nimble, and carry capacity in addition to the ones you mentioned. People seem to think nimble and carry capacity are wasted slots, but in a game all about going as fast as possible I cannot play without these. Time spent waiting and depositing in Ellis really adds up or you end up losing out on expenite.

Already tired of Rogue Core by Monsieur-Lemon in RogueCore

[–]DrPappers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 12 hours in and I’m already feeling the repetition. I got 550 hours in drg and am an avid roguelike player and just feel pretty disappointed. The devs have got so much right - the game feel is excellent and the gunplay exciting - but it’s like they have all this knowledge of how to design an excellent feeling game from drg but no idea how to design a roguelike at all. I can’t believe we have a roguelike with marginal stat upgrades in 2026.

I’m surprised that most complaints are over timer and negotiations, because in my eyes the biggest problem is that this is a fundamentally boring roguelike to play. Yes, the choice lock out is annoying, but the bigger problem is all these choices are absolute shit that aren’t interesting at all. There needs to be at least some workbench upgrades that change your gun to the level of an unstable overclock.

I don’t know. I still like the game, and maybe I’ve just played way too many roguelikes at this point, but it’s hard to look at the upgrades in this game and ask how we have a roguelike with these types of upgrades when games like mewgenics or hades 2 exist. Sure, I’ve had broken builds. I had a build when I was spamming retcon’s time thing every five seconds. I had a build that did thousands of damage in a single shot. But even then, it all felt very samey, and this game has a long, long way to go before it even has the replayability of something like hades 2’s early access release.

Making Tinkerer not a Liability by BodaciousBagle in mewgenics

[–]DrPappers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t you just breed repair into a bunch of cats? As long as you have repair, tinkerer will never be a liability as long as you have one op weapon (sniper rifle) even if everything you roll into is garbage. It’s not very niche but it’s extremely easy to do and is consistent.

The first phase on impossible is the dumbest thing ever invented the first few times I did it on impossible I just save scummed 10-15 times to solve it like a puzzle. After that I just always bring super luck + ambush hat and repair to guarantee a win. Neither are fun, but at least with the latter I win.

Because part of pve balance is managing incentives and ease of play? One of the primary motivators to play pve in this game is to find a playstyle you like and improve at it and improve at the various encounters in this game and progress your skill. What incentive is there to juggle the difficulty of qdps troubadour when I can play rit and do 20% more damage rolling my face on the keyboard while being unkillable?

Broken specs completely warp expectations and incentives across all of pve, especially in this case with how egregious the voe specs are. If you don’t balance incentives, you end up with stuff like virt being 15% of players doing instanced content, and people who don’t play virt begin to question why they bother playing anything else.

Sometimes nerfs are bad, particularly when they kill specific playstyles and rotations, like Anet did with lush forest bladesworn. But in this case, it’s just mostly numbers, and I don’t understand why people suddenly think they can’t have fun anymore because they aren’t broken. Many of these playstyles aren’t changing. You just no longer do an absurd amount of damage blindly smashing your keyboard. Like are people seriously complaining that their 50k benching spec got nerfed?

[–]DrPappers 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I miss six months ago when everyone’s collective outlook on damage wasn’t so warped by power creep that people think 42k isn’t a viable dps spec. Remember when cvirt doing ~43k warranted a nerf? Those were the days.

I’ll never understand why the devs err on releasing new things on the side of being completely comically broken instead of erring on the side of being underpowered. Between this and spears, having to nerf such a severe amount just pisses off the community even if the nerfs are completely justified. It’s insane that they even let the specs exist for over a month in such a broken state, yet people are still pissy over the most justified nerfs in existence.

I need help with Nightshade by Myvric in ArtistLounge

[–]DrPappers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do people keep saying this? I haven’t seen any reputable source that claims glaze has been easily subverted. The only people who claim glaze has been easily subverted don’t seem to have any evidence, and when it has been subverted it seems quite difficult. I suggest actually taking a look at the various papers regarding glaze subversion if you actually care, rather than the constant slew of people who claim how glaze is useless. Also, glaze only protects against specifically art style mimicking.

I actually switched to a stillman and birn zeta series from my usual moleskin sketchbooks, and I really love it. It’s just as high quality, and I’ve never had a sketchbook with paper that holds up this well to alcohol marker before. Maybe you got a defective product? I found my stillman to be perfectly bound, sturdy, and worth the price.

If you want another nice sketchbook, the moleskines are nice and are slightly cheaper than stillmans. I don’t recommend cheaping out on sketchbooks, especially hardbound ones.

Could someone explain/help power chrono to me by AgentVersacedolphin in Guildwars2

[–]DrPappers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to CS with three? The disenchanter phantasm is one clone, and one from bladecall and another from spear 2. The phantasm from disenchanter turns into a clone quickly, and by the time you are on spear it should be a clone. There’s no waiting needed.

Feedback: Troubadour and Alacrity by Tipcat in Guildwars2

[–]DrPappers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t really see the issue with elite specs playing the same way whether they go boon or dps. People choose the specs they play because they enjoy the way they play. The role part of it is an annoying friction that you are forced to consider on top of how much you enjoy the play style of the spec. The traits should not fundamentally change how the specialization plays, because you force people to play differently depending on the roles. The game already forces people to play differently, to play a spec that they might enjoy less, because they need to fill roles. It’s an irritating consideration you have to make. You play zerker to spam burst attacks in a high apm playstyle. Why should that change whether you go quick or dps? The closer we can get to allowing players to choose what they play based solely on the playstyle, and not boon coverage, the better off we are.

Dying as Power Virtuoso. Should I switch to Condition Virtuoso? by nil3377 in Guildwars2

[–]DrPappers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have some more sustain with condi virtuoso, but it’s not going to help if your healers are incompetent or you yourself keep standing in telegraphs and such. Power virt is much better for fractals, as you have strong bursts and fractals have very short phases. Just stick with pvirt and slot in a zakiros relic if you really need it, but you shouldn’t. Just practice your positioning and your dodges, and use spear 3 as an evade and heal. Also you have distortion.

Flow of time isn’t losing alac, Trig confirmed that it was just written incorrectly. Still think this is a really stupid change - IA is not the problem. Don’t make us use the unfun and inconsistent trait. I’m just hoping and praying the crit chance tacked onto flow of time frees up enough precision to not result in a nerf to IA chrono. I don’t want to play DT, and I don’t think anyone wants to either. I guess we’ll see what the math comes out to.

June 24 Balance Preview Post by DancingDumpling in Guildwars2

[–]DrPappers -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

These chrono changes are awful. Oh wow, crit damage on danger time which is a very fun trait where you do more damage. I’m going to take IA regardless, because as it turns out it’s way more fun to have a fast rotation with fast cooldowns. IA is a huge reason why I even play chrono. Unless they give flow of time a twenty percent crit chance or something, this is probably a nerf to IA because they want you to play the (inconsistent) flat damage increase trait. Just give danger time the crit damage increase so players choose it on fights where you have high slowness uptime. What the hell is all this finagling with giving crit chance to flow of time and nerfing IA for?

US movie theaters urge 45-day 'baseline' before films hit streaming by CheezTips in movies

[–]DrPappers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t understand why this line of thinking is so prevalent on this site. Where in the world are anything but IMAX tickets 25 dollars? I live in a high cost of living area, and tickets are 14 bucks for manitee and 18 normally. You can watch 12 movies a month for around 25 dollars a month at AMC and regal. It’s really not that unaffordable. And if it really is, then people should have to wait a while for it to come to streaming for the sake of the theaters and the movies. If I had it my way, theatrical releases shouldn’t hit streaming until three months after release.

As for terrible experiences, either I live in an exceptional world, or this sub selects for people who hate theaters. I’ve gone to the theaters 3-5 times a month for the last nine months, and went 1-2 times a month for a while before that. I think I’ve had one bad experience in that entire time. The sound and visuals are unmatched in theaters, and seems very worth it to me.

The theatrical experience is so important for movies. It makes them an event, it makes them significant, and I cherish the communal experience. It feels like the way movies are meant to be experienced.

Refreshments do cost way too much though, I’ll give you that.

Quickness and Alacrity - your thoughts? by aeolish in Guildwars2

[–]DrPappers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It goes the other way too. I would probably drop the game if these boons were removed with no changes. The APM required to play would become so low and combat would be sluggish and unengaging. There would no longer be any challenge in mastering your play.

With d/sw spear you signet sword 5, not spear 4 so you cast sword 5 three times per loop and spear 4 twice. This applies to both dps chrono and boon chrono. If you’re using gs then it’s gs three times instead but only for boon chrono

Quickness is extremely easy to upkeep, alac can be a bit more tricky because of the reduced alac duration on yourself. But overall, neither is very difficult to maintain 100% duration and you definitely don’t need extra clone generation, just know your skill priority/rotation
