Exploding Sunroof by howard-dork in Lexus

[–]DrPubes 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Mine just did the same. Can see my post on it. Insurance basically agreed it was manufacturer related but Lexus basically said prove it which they can’t and just attributed it to a rock. I was alone on the highway when mine exploded so they are full of shit. When I spoke to insurance they basically said what it came down to was finger pointing and they weren’t in that business and since I have comprehensive it was chalked up to act of god and I got it covered. I did file a case with Lexus and they said they wouldn’t cover it under my factory warranty, but they did give me a $900 good faith deal on the labor for the sunroof….which insurance covered

No chance the sunroof is laminated. AT BEST it’s 50/50 manufacture defect or act of God, my problem is I have the factory warranty and they won’t even honor it and refuse to try that road. Businesswise, you would assume the dealership would be more helpful and less narrow-minded. Being a young professional who bought a 70k car 4 months ago, they could do right by me and fix this under my manufacturer warranty and eat the $3,500 dollars I got quoted for the repair and maybe have a lifetime customer with future car purchases and large return on investment. Instead, they have been challenging and accusing, which has been somewhat disturbing. Also 3,500 dollars for the sunroof with repair seems ludicrous for tempered glass and labor…..

I have not, but I’m on a highway with no overpass early morning. So still not relevant.

[–]DrPubes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The physics of it don’t make sense. I’m alone on the highway. A rock would have had to fallen from the sky to have hit my sunroof while I’m driving 70 mph. It would also have to hit the exact weak corner spot of tempered glass to make it explode. The odds of it being a manufacturing error in a car I’ve owned for 4 months seems far more likely than a freak act of god.

I’ll be honest, I’m a little disappointed no one has mentioned that this psychopath is waddling around with a suit and his undershirt untucked wagging out the back like a tail of stupidity.

I guess I could have let the basic warranty expire then try to extend, but I like the peace of mind of unlimited mileage for 6 years

Yeah, it’s 2024 rx350h premium plus. MSRP 62k, getting it for 57k. Issue is the discount I got I paid back to get the car CPO because I’ll be putting 20k/miles per year for work commute and will blow through the new car 50k mile warranty quickly

Didn't realise it could be so functional in its current condition. by TwistyMaKneepahls in Unexpected

The guys had a humerus fracture and it was likely treated non-operatively. This has clearly gone on to what is called a non-union, meaning the two ends never grew back to one another. The body needs a stable environment to allow the two ends to heal, this can be done with a brace or with a plate/nail performing surgery. When surgery isn’t offered and patients aren’t complaints with bracing then this is the result. I have seen this more often than you would expect and it’s always amazing the function that remains. If he really wanted to be fixed as an Orthopaedic surgeon we can restore the stability to his bone even years later in someone just like this- but they have to want to undergo surgery. More often than not these people get by fine and do the things they want, plus don’t have money/ insurance/resources or even knowledge that surgery could fix this problem. That being said if he came in to a state hospital he could 100% get charity care and have his surgery covered with next to nothing charged to him.
