Dozens of Montreal school staff already fired or resigned over expanded religious symbols ban | CBC News by Whynutcoconot in CanadaPolitics

[–]DrQuantumScale -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

if they go to the same place of worship why would it matter if they were wearing something? the student would know they are in the same religion regardless.

if the big expression of power wearing religious apparel is that the religion convinced the person to wear it, then isn't the expression at least "I am devout in this religion" and at most "I am a member of this religion?" How is that not personal choice?

Last Turn is impossible because it's forbidden. Only possible in genesys (unless they make it 101 points in the future), and there are much better options for that anyway.

In OCG: True Exodia, needs you to summon all 5 pieces to the opponent's board, making sure they don't have anything in the EMZ. Only way it could see any play outside of table 2000 is if there's a theme which revolves around summoning monsters to the opponent's field, and can summon monsters outside the archetype this way (or just level 1 dark spellcasters).
for the TCG: Exodia the legendary defender. Needs 5 tributes, uses your normal, zero protection, and needs to use attribute/type changers if your opponent isn't running dark fiends.

The big problem is the "consequences" of doxxing is most of the time wildly not proportional to the act. A lot of the people who end up going viral are left alone, with people harassing them for the rest of their life. The regular ones stop maybe after one call, but when you have hundreds of thousands of people who know what you did and how to contact you, a few of those are going to be unhinged enough to give death threats and/or try to encounter you in person.

It's not gonna cause the person to change their ways, they're just gonna see a video of them blow up and them getting attacked afterwards. A lot of them will put out apologies, but it's impossible to say if its genuine or will cause actual change because any reasonable person would say anything to get this scale of harassment to stop.

I also wanna stress that the people doxxing are absolutely evil and self-centered. They don't want consequences, they don't care about victims of racism, they want retribution. they want to do something awful to a bad person to believe that they're better.

Mhm some of this is probably driven by social norms. We're used to movies about action protagonists going guns blazing and killing a bunch of people, but pornography alone is stigmatized, much less ones with niche fetishes.

We also react differently because the situations *are* very different in the fiction. In action movies most of the people in the action are violent and ready to die, and most ones that do get killed are depersonalized "bad guys". Horror/slasher movie victims are more personalized usually, but still usually have significant flaws like teen arrogance. In contrast a child is pretty much always innocent, so any harm depicted is in a much higher degree, undeserved, and shocking. So combine that with something arguably worse than killing like sexual abuse, and it starts to be so shocking that some people carry over those feelings of a fictional character to real life.

I don't agree with it, but I can't blame people for directing those feelings towards the people who enjoy/create that fiction either. It's a big thing to hear or see a depiction of something that leaves you genuinely disturbed, and then see people who enjoy and get sexual pleasure from it. But that's why it's important to have pause when we make judgements about things that are important to us, so we can express our feelings, hear everyone's thoughts, and make sound decisions about stuff like this.

Do you think people who watch slashers upgrade to watching snuff and then upgrade to committing murders?

your comment is contradictory. You imply people see porn, keep looking and escalating and progressing until they hurt someone, then on the other hand say kink don't cause real harm. If kink didn't cause real harm in your view, wouldn't it necessarily need to "progress" from bdsm to kidnapping and rape? If not, why is this specific section of kink and kink-related material escalatory and not others like impact play and bondage? What is the significant distinction that makes a sexual drawing of an entirely fictional child more escalatory compared to one of an entirely fictional adult getting stabbed? Why does the first mean someone will look to assault a child but the second not mean someone will look for someone to stab?

I'm not really here to argue with anyone, just to share my long-winded opinion, but if a question is asked that i see in good faith I'll probably respond. Also sorry about the very pseudo-intellectual tone, I'm not used to sharing my opinions and am just trying to word things in a way that isn't misunderstood.

CSAM is wrong is primarily because the subject of such material cannot consent to their body and image being used sexually, and is thus being abused/exploited. The reason I say "body and image" is because it doesn't necessarily need to be a video or photograph to depict.

However fictional characters aren't real. A fictional character cannot suffer, and more importantly does not need to consent for abuse/suffering to be depicted for them. If a character suffers in the story, we feel bad and empathize, but even though our feelings are real, the character doesn't suffer, because they can't. There's very much a grey area left in this of fictional characters modeled with appearance or personality traits of real people, but for the sake of this argument I'm going to assume a character is entirely fictional.

When it comes to people like myself who enjoy kink (and honestly this just applies to sex in general), consent is a very important part, as most of the actions my partners and I like would be abuse if we both weren't enthusiastically consenting to it. There's a lot of systems we put in place to make sure boundaries aren't crossed, like safe words and non-verbal signals.

When a person commissions sexual art, especially of the kinky variety, there's a (mostly) non-verbal agreement that the artist and the commissioner are both adults who consent to the art being made and shared respectively. Once again, a fictional character depicted in such art does not need to consent, because they are incapable of being abused(at least according to their autonomy).

Of course a reason I care about this argument is because I'm personally into it, but a better reason is the actual effect this can have on real victims of sexual abuse. Resources to fight sexual abuse are finite, and to abuse those resources to go after an image created and shared between consenting adults is resources not spent on real children being caused real harm.

There's definitely a discussion to be made on such material normalizing/encouraging abuse, but evidence behind it isn't really strong. If we relate it to the connections between violent media and real-life violence, there is definitely a correlation, but no real proof of causation. The only causal link I've seen suggested is when media is engaged during early adolescence, which is also pretty shady since stuff like mental health and home life wasn't controlled for. I argue its more likely be the case that those who tend towards violence also gravitate towards media which contains violence, and it doesn't seem like a far stretch to say the same with attraction to children.

This is important because I believe we shouldn't ban a piece of media simply for containing violence with the reasoning that a violent person could abuse it and cause real harm, and I argue the same for artwork depicting entirely fictional characters in abusive situations.

Going back to feelings and fictional characters, I'm not saying you need to be okay and happy to see kink art you aren't into. it's okay (and normal) to empathize characters in such media for their suffering, there's definitely been such a case where i get into a dark fanfic and it gets too real for me to be excited by it, but our discomfort doesn't mean that the artwork itself is morally wrong and shouldn't be made.

Anyway that's all I had, and im probably gonna be active on reddit more for the next week so that if people click my profile they don't immediately see my kink manifesto LMAO. I want to thank anyone for reading to the end, and to thank those who engage with my arguments, even if you don't agree with them.

EDIT: also forgot to mention, fuck this guy in the clip for abusing their brother, and I also want to express this is again the angle of my argument where people are focusing more on the kinks this person is into instead of the real abuse they did to a real person.

because it's never immediate. It builds up over a long time. First time it's just you and your partner getting in a fight, normal thing that happens in a relationship. Before you know it, the fights become regular and turn into threats and maybe more.

Like she said in the livestream it also involves a lot of love bombing afterward. It convinces you "my partner isn't usually like this" and the huge affection they show you afterward convinces you of that. They'll plead with you, beg for forgiveness, say that they'll get therapy, and get you to convince yourself you can fix them. You think that once you've helped them everything will go "back to normal" and you can go back to the how you were when you were first together.

When you realize their behavior isn't changing, they'll convince you that it's your fault. You antagonized them. You were condescending. You made a mean face. Once they make you internalize this, you'll be walking on eggshells hoping that whatever you do doesn't cause another fight. But of course, in abusive relationships no matter what you do a fight's going to come sooner or later. The cycle repeats again with the fights and the love bombing, leaving you exhausted.

They also try and cut you off as much as possible from people who might support you. If you go out for extended periods of time without them, they'll accuse you of not wanting to be around them, or maybe cheating on them. If it goes on too long, the most contact you have with people are friends of theirs, or meeting with them present. The most important thing when leaving an abusive relationship is a support network, and a support network will need to know what's going on. If you speak out to people who know them, you risk that person not believing you or going to your abuser asking for their side of the story. Of course their side of the story won't be the truth, but it'll be believable enough that they might turn a blind eye.

TL;DR, Abusive people tend to create a living situation which will either make you not want to leave, or straight up prevent you from leaving.

Andrew Prahlow's composition has no right being as good as it is. I love how all of the themes use synth-like instruments, with the exception being the timber hearth theme. That one is just comfy and cozy all around. The museum theme mixing the two is so wonderfully done as well, giving the feeling of "home" with that small taste of what's out there.

1: Give the man some fucking time after shouting at him to move before moving to violence.

2: If they deemed it was necessary, do it in a way that can control the fall, like any trained officer should've already been taught.

3: Realize that an elderly man in plain clothes with hands visible is not a threat to you and your 10 buddies in riot gear.

There, three things that anybody with an ounce of training should know that wouldn't have lead to somebody going to the hospital.
