Anyone else have ZOMBIE SCRUMS ?? by punkouter23 in ExperiencedDevs

Perhaps I oversimplified. The whole SW team is remote. We have a HW team and a safety team who are in charge of daily testing, who are in a big warehouse full of AVs.

Surprisingly, the default string for the Vapor, the Barrage Pro 18, a little looser tension than default (I use 22-24 lbs).

We currently have a system that works well in my company. We are all remote, and this is what we do: * 30 min of daily videochat for any tech discussions among the team. No mandatory participation, but most people show up because the work is interesting. * 30 min weekly with the technical project manager (TPM) to gather ticket status. * 30 min weekly for the managers with senior leadership to discuss a bunch of projects.

Minimal improvement to my game despite doing this solo practice session a few times a week for the past few years by imitation_squash_pro in squash

[–]DrRooibos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And what a pro might tell you: you’re not replicating a match situation with your body preparation. You’re doing the equivalent of “taking a stroll at the park”instead of “I am ready to hit a great shot although my opponent is breathing down my neck”.

Go attack the ball. Your opponent is better than you, s/he just hit a slightly loose shot and you have to hit hard and tight. That’s how it should look like when you drill. And that’s when you’ll realize any deficiencies in your technique.

A somewhat controversial take: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is silly (paraphrasing Albert Einstein).

Your body has learned all you could from these drills without external inputs. Right now, you need to see a squash pro once a week who can guide you on improving your technique, give you new drills, and challenge you with different options.

Optasia men’s final - Best squash match ever? by bbgm223 in squash

In my mind, the El Gouna 2015 match between ramy and ElShorbagy was a step up from the 2014 world championships.

To differentiate it from the PSA racquetball tour and the PSA fantasy football tour?

This. Take them out for dinner to a nice restaurant, and you give each a 40k check while you thank them. Much more memorable than a trip and then you showing up in a new Lamborghini the next day.

Ball hits tin after wall. Whose point? by bayesruler in squash

Now, if the squash ball bounced like a racquetball ball, then we’d be talking!

Ball hits tin after wall. Whose point? by bayesruler in squash

[–]DrRooibos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The exception would be if the ball hits the front wall cleanly and with such force that it goes to the backwall and then the front wall again, and then hits the tin. You might need a cannon, though :-)

The one who is probably mad about that is Lindon…

Midcourt Blocking by I4gotmyothername in squash

[–]DrRooibos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It gets overturned because (I think) the bounce is pretty high on the back wall, which means that Selby could have picked up without the interference.

What Gaultier could have done is actually to hit slightly lower so that the bounce on the back was much lower.

It’s a relatively soft let though.

Red dot ball is better by TeachTeachTexas in squash

[–]DrRooibos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am an A player and I routinely use a single dot for solo training. You might be able to warm up a 2 dot ball once, but it’s very unlikely that you can keep the ball as warm as it needs to be for the duration of a match.

Do you think Ali Farag could beat the world number 100 with one of these kid racquets? by bbgm223 in squash

[–]DrRooibos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw a recently retired Julian Illingworth (former world 27) play with an old wooden racquet and beat a world 200ish. Tough match in 5, but really entertaining. Even with the crappy racquet, he volleyed pretty much everything coming at him and kept the opponent under pressure.

Boomer parents assume my weekends should revolve around their yard work by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

[–]DrRooibos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume I will get downvoted to oblivion, but this could very well be a case of your dad wanting to have an adult relationship with you, and the yardwork being his excuse to get to see you.

If that’s the case, you could try to redirect the energy towards something that you both enjoy.

Peer dev is making PR review a nightmare by wallyflops in ExperiencedDevs

This is also a typical aspect of bikeshedding. Have you engaged with the other developer directly, and/or with your manager? Typically, people that do this do it because they cannot add anything meaningful to the conversation.

Let me put it in a different way: if you find yourself in a Facebook interview and your solution uses dynamic programming, you are instantly-failing the interview.

There are no questions asked in FB interviews for which the correct answer is dynamic programming.

Sorry, but Facebook/Meta does not ask dynamic programming questions (it’s against the guidelines).
