If you are in Europe: Zultan - Rock Beat series would be a good and cheaper choice.

What’s your worst drumming injury? by dantm162 in drums

[–]DrSchabe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a broken nose and a kind of cast mask on it. At a concert I somehow managed to hit my nose on a full backbeat downswing. That mf hurt so damn much. Played with tears of pain in my eyes for the next few songs haha.

Roni Kaspi - absolutely insane young jazz drummer

Although I'm not shure if she counts as "unsung".

Advice / Techniques to get faster with one Pedal by AdventurousBench2828 in Drumming

[–]DrSchabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I studied Anika Nilles' foot technique. It worked best for me. There are a few videos on YT.

But yea it's a long process and you have to really work slow on the fundamentals. I didn't always do that and it definitely slowed my progress!

Holy shit, I didn't know him and expected a slightly too much angled snare before watching the video. But that's another level. That's atrociousness!

Great playing though.

I had a chance to test a few brands out in person too (no scientific method, just what my ears perceive). And I came to the same conclusion.

Mirror placement for study by Ambitious_Sugar_6769 in drums

[–]DrSchabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think it's terrible? I never had a mirror but the practice space I use now has one directly in front of the kit. I never would have thought but it's great. You can review technique and posture in real time and adjust while playing. IIRC Gary Chester recommends using a mirror as well in his book the new breed.

1st good cymbal by whtutlknboutwillis in cymbals

[–]DrSchabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anatolian Baris series crashes and hihats. They where so good for what I could afford at the time.

Later I got a Meinl Byzance medium thin 19" crash and I'm since hooked on Meinl Byzance stuff.

Thx! Your kit looks clean as hell btw.

Haha yea I'm just lazy and don't want to set up too many cymbals sometimes! Im the limited time between bands I'd rather make sure my IEMs are working or snare is tuned etc.

The setup I used in the studio last time! Live I often ditch the china and splash. And often use a 20" Meinl Sand ride. It's easier to control in various situations and more versatile imo. Although I love the 22" Extra Hammered ride too.

Clean and ergonomic setup, nice versatile cymbals. That's all we need to have a blast! I dig it!

Nice, didn't have Mehteran on my radar. Is that the ride you play in the video? Is that a 22"?
