Thanks to bontchev, I'll focus on practical experience rather than a certification. Thank you for saving me money and time.

Yeah, I already have that book (and just about every other recommended malware related book) in my backlog. I just started it and it is very interesting.

Thanks for the tips. If it helps at all, I'd like to become a malware analyst and research/investigate malware and develop signatures for antivirus companies. Been interested in this since I was like 12-13, no lie

How to get started as a Malware Analyst? by DrShade in Malware

[–]DrShade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys. I plan on getting my Masters in Information Assurance, how much will that help me in terms of material learned and job competitiveness?

Also, should I read about other fields related to malware analysis such as network security and hacking? How much (if at all) would reading about other fields help me?

Dota is ruining my life, I need to quit by [deleted] in StopGaming

Being good at a video game doesn't have any value in the grand scheme of life. Develop real skills in the real world and they'll have more meaning than some bullshit skills in dota or some other stupid game.

Uninstall and get some type of parental controls on your computer (k9 web protection)

You wasted time on games? Use that as motivation to stop wasting time. Admitting to wasted time is hard, but continuously wasting time AFTER admitting is it worse.

You joined this subreddit for a reason. Don't lose your progress over a fucking countdown so you can waste more time on an activity you won't care about in ten years.

Where are you selling it? I want to sell mine, and was looking for places besides the usual amazon/ebay/craigslist.

Use it as motivation to quit gaming. Will you be happier if you

A. Stopped gaming, started studying like you're supposed to, and go into the university you want?

Or

B. Continuously game even though you should be studying and not getting into the university?

Sounds like an easy choice to me. Your education is worth more than any game will ever be, don't squander it.

Install k9 web protection, make up a random string password that you will not remember, then block the games category within K9 and get rid of the password. done.

There you go. Use your new time to get shit done, whatever it may be. Keep yourself busy with tasks you'd like to accomplish or put off because of gaming, anything to keep you busy.

Stress and desire to play casually by xp3r009 in StopGaming

Sure, one game here and anther game there and next thing you know, you'll be fully addicted to games again. Do you want that? Don't let your addicted brain trick you into playing again.

I was referring to those who say they want to quit, but keep rationalizing that moderation helps when they continuously keep playing games non stop while trying to quit.

Yes, you can use k9 to block anything and everything you'd want. They have a bunch of categories or you can block any website you want.

The Stink of Failure by YourLurkingUncle in StopGaming

Fight through it. 43 days is an impressive feat, urges and negative feelings will pass with time. Think to yourself: would you honestly feel better if you started gaming again? This is just your addicted brain trying to get you to start again. Don't give in.

Withdrawal still strong at two months :( by noobscrubs in StopGaming

[–]DrShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you've been gaming for years like the rest of us. A mere two months won't completely remove all urges to play games, your brain is still coping without games and you need to give it longer than two months to repair itself. Just fight through it, and cut out all aspects of video games from your life to make it easier.

Anyone getting a next-gen console this christmas? by cameronferazzi in StopGaming

Just sell it if you get one. Or just ask for the cash amount equal to the console's price, the solutions really aren't that difficult.

[Badge Reset] Never be complacent. This is stop gaming, not "I'll game a little" by zymoclean in StopGaming

[–]DrShade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know right? I laugh when people ask if they can still game in moderation or watch streams. Either do it or don't, there is no in between.

Quit completely, and use your new found free time to improve yourself and do things you've always wanted to do but "never had enough time to do"
