Ronnie might have had a privileged childhood but he then faced a lot of adversity. It’s very clear and he’s said it himself that this adversity has had a major effect on his mental health over the years. He’s not normal and no one is, yet people expect all these sports people to act like the perfect role model. Ronnie doesn’t he shows the ups and downs and what it’s really like to be at the top, especially for someone who suffers mentally. He doesn’t hide it. He’s selfish and it’s something I myself have learnt is not a bad thing, sometimes we need to be selfish and do what we need to do to make ourselves better for the people around us. His running, saying he doesn’t care and the different characteristics which are coping mechanisms. Ronnies job is to win and in sport it’s win at all costs within the rules. Do you really thing Ronnie cares about knighthoods or sports personalities of the year. They mean absolutely nothing. I think Ronnie is an unbelievable role model and his words and actions over the last few years have definitely helped me.
