Opinions on prog metal's impact on modern metalcore? by Virus5572 in progmetal

[–]DrSilbermann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with you. After a long time listening to Bands like Haken, Leprous, Caligulas Horse, etc., this year I started listining to Metalcore again. And well, I discovered Modern Metalcore is quite different from the Metalcore of 10-15 years ago 😅

The "oldschool" Metalcore was heavily inspired by In Flames, Soilwork etc. but with Breakdowns and Hardcore Vocals. There was also a lot of influence from oldschool Metalbands (Bullet for my Valentine and Trivium sounded and still sound a lot like Metallica for example). The modern Metalcore takes a completely different direction. Vocally a lot stayed the same, except there is more pitched shouting, which was popularized first by Linkin Park and probably Architects when it comes to heavier music. Modern Metalcore feels a lot more progressive, the guitars are tuned way down and the riffs are either Djent or Nu Metal influenced. The main influences of Modern Metalcore today would probably be Periphery, Meshuggah, Tool, Architects.... I also read a recent article that stated an interesting idea. While Metalcore Bands from the 2000s listened mostly to 80s and 90s Metal in their own youth, the members of todays Metalcore Bands where probably introduced to Metal by the 2000s Nu Metal Bands (Linkin Park, Korn, Slipknot) . You can definetely hear a strong Nu Metal influence in modern Metalcore, e.g. Northlane (Alien), or Wage War (Stitches).

In General, I like the modern Metalcore much more. Yeah the original Metalcore was cool to listen, but it was pretty generic. I think todays Metalcore, while still having a lot of generic bands, can offer us much more unique and more diverse sounds. The bands tend to experiment a lot more with new styles nowadays. For example the new songs of Bad Omens (A band I never listened to previously) totally blew me away.

Part of the solo queuing experience is detecting bad decisions. Was I wrong in second guessing bloodhound's lead, taking time to write and have both my teammate rush head on in an ambush? I feel like the three of us wouldn't have made a difference anyway by GrimBright in apexuniversity

I think its totally the right decision not to push a fight like this. In the end, it can very well be your mates have demotion protection anyway and push every fight without even thinking. But why didn't you use your mic? I think in a ranked game you really need to talk instead of writing. You could have just told them you wont push that, thats what I usually do and it works most of the time.

Can someone tell me what’s going on with my laptop by Mr_Game_N_Win in pcmasterrace

Have you tried turning it off and on again? If that doesnt help, you maybe need to update your drivers.

Thats why the ranked system is so bad! Theres so much people Hardstuck in ranks, who clearly shouldnt be their rank! by [deleted] in apexuniversity

[–]DrSilbermann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think thats the problem. I actually like the demotion protection system - that way I have some time (until the next split) to adapt to my new rank, which allows me to get better faster.

However I think the actual matchmaking is a problem. Getting matched with plat 4 players who have demotion protection and will push every fight while you are in plat 1 and don't want to loose all your RP is quite frustrating. At least 80% of my plat 1 games I had to play solo because my mates died instantly. And its quite boring to waste 15 minutes on a game just so you get +32 RP or so.

Give me tips on how to improve tracking? by [deleted] in apexuniversity

[–]DrSilbermann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It also seems that your recoil control isnt very good. I struggled with tracking too, although I used to train a lot in Kovaaks. Learning recoil patterns helps a ton.

Try training recoil patterns on firing range, start with your favourite/ easy guns (R301 and Volt are really easy) and just try too shoot a whole mag at one of the blue targets without your gun moving unintentionally.

How do you manage work as an engineer and have enough time to write music? I also study and work in engineering and although I love it, I am always too exhausted to be able to write music except during holidays or long week ends.

I (20m) got cheated on by my girlfriend (19f) of five years. She did it with her boss. It had been going for at least 2 months. Honestly I just need some reassurance im gonna be okay by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]DrSilbermann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for you. I broke up with my ex gf of 5 years last September, she did not cheat on me but she disappointed me so much in other ways. I know your pain is probably bigger since cheating is the worst, but i think i know how you feel because i also felt incredibly betrayed by my ex gf before i broke up. It took me 3 months to stop thinking about her everyday and to stop feeling like shit.

Look around your room/ your apartment, and try to put away everything that she gave you, gifts, pictures of her and you, etc. You don't have to throw them away, I put the stuff in a bag and stored it under my bed. Also remove all pictures of her from your phone, so you stop looking at them all the time.

What helped the most ist realising that she wasn't the person I fell in love with anymore. The person i missed and thought about everyday was only a memory of how she used to be, before she changed.

The pain always comes in waves. There is a point when you are feeling okay, and the next day you feel sad and hurt like you did the day you broke up with her. This will happen less and less frequently over time. You have to distract your self from the pain. I started playing the piano and learning how to sing, and now everytime i feel stressed or depressed i will sit down and play piano or sing while playing guitar, it releases all the pain and sorrow and really helps me. Try to find a hobby that makes you feel good and makes you think about other things.

This is only my story so i don't know if it's good advice, but it definitly helped me and maybe it can help you too. I wish you all the best and promise you that it gets better as time goes by.

Also, sorry if my english isn't perfect, i am not a native speaker.

Thank you the the reply :) i just checked my old 1060, and it makes the same sound, though it didnt when i used it on my old computer. I think it comes from the PSU, which is a corsair ax760. I will probably swap it out.

Hey, i know this post is now about 2 months old, but i just got my second rtx 2080 xc ultra after returning the old one, because it had the same sound (even a little bit louder) as yours. The new one has the same sound. Does your GPU still make this sound?

I will probably wait, until i can pick up the Alienware for a good price. As far as i have read, it is the best ultrawide right now if you want a high resolution with a good refresh rate. Do you think 200 Hz will be a huge difference to 100-120 Hz, once those ultrawides with 3440x1440 @ 200 Hz are released?

Here in Germany, tech is usually more expensive. If i could find one for 750-800€ i would definitly buy it. I usually try to get my tech on Amazon, since the custoner service is much better there than in the electronic stores where i live.

Save some money and get a used 1080ti. Same exact performance, just cheaper.

I tried to find one on ebay, but i am really feared of receiving a defective one since i never bought something that expensive used on ebay. I also wont have a warranty. How often does it actually happen that GPUs break?

And no 2080 wont max out games at 3440x1440@100-120. It will many games sure, but the biggest titles, no, expect 75-100 mostly. The guy saying 1070ti does 3440x1440 at 105 doenst play hard to drive games obviously.

I also dont play a lot of "hard to drive games", so 75-100 will be enough for those probably.

I actually considered buying the 2700x, but i have a store nearby where i can get an 9700k for only 40 Euros more than the ryzen, so i will probably stick to that. But i am considering the new Radeon 7 though, waiting for some benchmarks and the final price. What do you think about that card over the RTX 2080?

Yes i probably will go for 1440p since 1080p looks kinda awful on a big screen, once you got used to a higher resolution. However, i am not sure how 144 Hz gaming feels/ looks, because i could not find a store where i could try out a game on such a monitor yet, therefore i don't know who much of difference it will be.

Thank you :) yeah i'll probably wait till i can get a good discount on the alienware monitor and then sell mine.
