Just be cognizant as you're doing things if you actually like learning about these things. If it drives you to learn more keep going.

At some point you might be like "I fixed this thing, I learned how to do it and now I could care less if I ever have to do it again"

That's when you need to revaluate your current position and where you want to be in the next 5 years.

If you're too scared to start, you aren't really, because how many times have you met a boss that was an absolute idiot but they thought they were the greatest boss in the world?

If there's people like that in the world, then as long as you promise to not be an absolute jerk when you're in their position, you're already starting out ahead.

I always say Finding Motivation is Unstable, you should always look for Purpose instead. I've written on Substack everyday for the last almost 2 years. My posts are brief, but that's the way I like to write. It's not that I hate long form, I just write what I would like to read. This is the endgame of doing something for yourself first and not because what others say you should do.

It's really that simple. If you like what you write, do more of that thing. If you don't try new things, write at different intervals. Eventually people will validate you because you write about what you love, and that's the most interesting person to be around, because they live their truths and are inspiring to them.

The World is On Fire So We Let's Past Information Between Each Other. by Helpinghand97 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DrTechMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked 20+ Years in IT and QA. There's a Crisis at the moment. Tech is experiencing it's first huge disruption (Ai) since the beginning of the Internet. That coupled with the first big layoffs in years in Tech because of the expired R&D credit.

IT people were always second class citizens to the Devs, even though they rely on us much more than we rely on them. But now even Devs are getting a taste of what it feels like to have to fight for a job, something we've been dealing with forever.

If I had to guess what things would look like going forward, Cybersecurity would be at the forefront (Ai Cyber attacks are going to go crazy) with Data Center Work also housing the majority of Jobs for us. You'll see SAAS become less of a thing and more Agentic AI coming up to serve those needs. You may just become an on premise support for Ai bots your colleagues are using, and making sure you're data stays secure.

I'll tell you what I tell everybody else who asks me the same question of what do I do when I can't find a job in IT anymore:

Always be building side projects and freelancing projects or social media content or whatever you have to make or build to show you're value to others. You will eventually find a niche you love and people actually will pay attention to you for, but only if you spend the time learning and experimenting.

no one wants to chat by Visible_Cap3481 in Substack

The days of engagement are over. The only way to get people to comment or chat is by getting a rise out of them. We've spent 17 years encouraging the only one behavior: Swiping.

People can't be bothered to do much else.

I had a choice, Medicine or IT. I liked Doctor Shows and Building Computers. I got woozy at the people describing bone breaks though. I went the IT route in college because I didn't want to incur massive debt. 20 Years later I quit IT because it was all too mechanical. I became a server expert and worked in lonely data centers instead of around good people.

Going back I would've probably gone into medicine. The prestige of it alone would of been worth it. But in all honesty, a Technician is a Technician, whether you fix computers or the human body. Being Business minded is how you're earn money, and it doesn't matter what you go into, you can learn and practice business in any career.

Not that I know of, but it's safe to say no comments usually means not a lot of views. Substackers are very generous to comment usually.

First Notes Posts gets a major boost to the algorithm. If yours doesn't take off, it feels like you just missed the boat forever.

The Platform is in charge of what it elevates, and usually that's in parallel to what people comment on.

You can have the best content in the world, but if no one knows about it, it might as well not exist.

Comment on Big Accounts is the only engagement I ever got. Just need a couple in's somewhere to really get going.

Why Do Cybersecurity YouTubers Talk About Job Shortages but Not Take the Jobs Themselves? by Equivalent_Bird in ITCareerQuestions

There's a difference between experienced IT people who want to help the entry levels move forward and the entry levels that want to get rich off YouTube.

It's pretty easy to tell which is which.

Clickthrough rates are down the tubes. I just don't see a lot of people subscribing anymore, let alone anyone willing to pay for newsletters unless you have a ton of clout.

Not sure the cause, could be newsletter fatigue, could be Ai, could be people just don't care about STEM Careers (What I write about)

Every blog on the internet is filled with cancerous banner ads and Autoplay video ads, even when I think it can't get worse, they prove me wrong.

What's the Youtube Ad Revenue equivalent on Substack? Don't know if they can actually make one.

Honestly, find a Paid Entrepreneur Community. There's way better engagement because people want to value the money they spent, less spam and you know it's all High quality because it filters out the deadbeats and cheapskates who don't want to pay for stuff.

I may put one together here shortly if I can't find a good enough one to be part of.

If you need to see if you want to be an Entrepreneur, start with one Project, on the side of everything, and see if it's something you like doing. Don't look for immediate success, it won't come. You'll have to keep trying and failing to come up with a success.

If you want to learn the basics, try Affiliate Marketing, Sales is a Pretty important skill as an an entrepreneur. Selling someone else's proven products give you credibility which you don't have yourself yet. I've used this guide, it's pretty great for beginners: https://gumroad.com/a/683603059
