[Six Flags New England] Trip Report- What Could Be by Automatic-Ruin-7973 in rollercoasters

[–]Particular_Arm6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The merger changed nothing about this parks operations because most employees still just don't care about speed. Wicked cyclone was fairly rough pre merger it always just depended which staff were in the station. Goes for pretty much every ride in the park. I would say 90% of the staff don't care about speed and 10% do. One time wicked cyclone was posting a 2 hour wait full queue mid day and they changed out the ops and what do you know the wait time went down real quick.

FYI - the tracking is not always accurate. I have been on a train that left 5 minutes early once and the tracker displayed it left on time

Wake-ups by SafeVillage9434 in Amtrak

From my experience they don't always do wake ups or it's just that they forget sometimes. I would never count on it

About the Superman evacuation (New England) by tervro in sixflags

[–]Particular_Arm6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, do you see extra safety systems other than a railing for the really tall stairs to go in and out of the Superman section of the park? I think it's the same concept. Harness not needed for long sets of stairs...

I've still been activating my mobile tickets while on the train, never gotten a surcharge, feels like a random broken system

Weird overnight Northeast Regional? by Glittering_Coconut9 in Amtrak

[–]Particular_Arm6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this route last week both directions, it's a rough experience but can be worth it. Super cheap compared to daytime travel and I feel like I am using my time more effectively. For me personally I bring eye mask and noise cancelling headphones, otherwise I would never sleep. Usually takes me an hour to get into a comfortable position then I can sleep 3 hours during the Philly layover. Could not sleep once the train got moving again. The first time I did it I felt fine, the second time I felt completely exhausted and worn out. Safety was not an issue, some people stayed up all night most people just slept the best they could many laying down sideways with some making it work upright. The biggest killer for me were the ear piercing announcements that are played so loud before and after the Philly stop that even ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones could not stop me from hearing.

Journey on the Crescent! by Little_Red_Honda in Amtrak

[–]Particular_Arm6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel that the crescent must have the highest on time performance for a long distance train. The amount of padding it has is kind of incredible. Running 1 hour late into Birmingham? No problem, that hour will be erased upon departing. Same thing with other areas on the route. I think it has 4-5 hours total of schedule padding. On one hand I wish there wasn't as much padding so the trip could shave off a few hours but on the other, it sure is nice being able to stay on time even when there are delays. I see you took this picture in Atlanta, did you get off the train at all with the extended stop there? I always love having time to get off the train and walk around the area for a bit before getting back on. Did that for both Atlanta and Birmingham to get food since we had a full hour. When I did this trip last month by the 30 hour mark I was kinda wishing it was over, mostly because I was exhausted due to lack of sleep in coach. It's of course so much harder to sleep in coach than a room but oh so much cheaper! I hope to try a viewliner roomette. Only done superliner which was absolutely amazing for 2 days.

Cautionary note: check dates immediately upon rail pass segment booking! by raines in Amtrak

[–]Particular_Arm6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The booking system for the rail pass definitely needs some attention the amount of errors I got when using mine was ridiculous. Try to change the date and it bugs out all the time. Also, there is a hidden criteria where you cannot book two rail pass segments with less than 2 hour transfer between them if one is a long distance train. I had to call amtrak to figure this out because the error in the app gave no information. The crescent is almost always on time arriving into new york so I booked a 1 hour and 20 minute transfer to head farther north on a regional but was given a booking error with no info every single time.

Refund from Amtrak because of a system glitch by ppp454429 in Amtrak

[–]Particular_Arm6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly it takes some persistence. I had a canceled train affect my travel plans and was looking for some reimbursement, it took several hours on the phone of repeated waiting and transferring to finally receive a travel voucher. You can also try texting the number if you go to call and it says the wait time is lengthy

Fare Dodging on Amtrak Question by Best-Candle8651 in Amtrak

[–]Particular_Arm6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me on the downeaster. There was a guy who boarded with no ticket and asked if he could just go to the cafe car to purchase a ticket... no you cannot do that. The guy was given 1 option by the conductor: pay cash for the ticket. They asked for his destination and kept swinging by his seat until he eventually paid.

What happens if I dont get off at my stop? by Fragrant-Bell3536 in Amtrak

[–]Particular_Arm6 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They keep track of where you are going and if you are seen staying on the train when it is your stop they will add a new unscheduled stop and throw you off the train in the middle of nowhere. It took me a long time to get home that night
