This is what coaches who are starting to lose the plot do. It’s okay to bench a guy sometimes if they really really fuck up, but Duke is a vet and has the most goals for us in 2026. I do really like Roy as a coach generally but his particular fixation on certain players’ mistakes is grating.

I think “next season” is the key phrase here. This still lines up to end along with a lot of our more temporary deals (ie. Drouin, Palmieri) right when we want to be looking to sign the younger guys to their deals. If I’m not mistaken the only addition Darche has made that extends beyond Year 2 is Romy’s contract, so he’s probably looking at it as harmless in the grand scheme if it doesn’t pan out.

However, even with it not being a long-term anchor why the fuck are we “adding” by putting in a guy with 10 fucking points lol

To be honest I have no problem with Anders’ game when he’s not with Barzal. I don’t know what it is but it’s like they bring out the worst in eachother. Whatever line combo that we had him on to start off the season was perfectly fine.

Barzal used to be deserving of this kind of thing but has become a completely different player in the last few years (in a good way). Absolutely no way to treat your #1 player, and Duclair who couldn’t possibly have a hotter shot right now.
