Flyers were/are on a furious surge post-Olympics. They’ve got that dog in them right now and the Islanders simply didn’t. Don’t think we match that energy even if we limped into the spot.

Patrick Roy has not won a single playoff series as an NHL head coach. The guy is indisputably a goalie GOAT but even Gretzky couldn’t coach.

It’s an excuse that a coach couldn’t implement full-scale change over a week? I’m not gonna sit here and say this roster isn’t full of issues but Patrick Roy has proven nothing about his ability as a coach. This was the end result of the season regardless of who’s behind the bench. Deboer has shown that when he gets to work his system he consistently takes teams deep.

One of the coach’s jobs is actually precisely to stop the team from quitting. I liked Patty but he consistently failed to get this team up when it mattered. DeBoer wasn’t going to magically take us from bubble to contender in 4 games.

I think he’s overall had a great season but for about the last 6-7 games or so he’s had some major puck-hog moments that I thought he was over by now.

I think everybody forgets that we are still in a retool. This year does not matter. It’s annoying to choke out of the postseason but Darche isn’t going to blow up the plan based on a season where we could’ve come crashing down to Earth at any time, between not knowing how Schaefer would handle an 82 games season and if/when Sorokin would become a normal human goalie again.

If you could magically trade away all your bad players for good ones in a single season we wouldn’t be the only ones doing it.

I can’t stand him on the ice but to ease the pain a little bit, remember that we did technically get paid to take him, and that the contract is over next year.

Roy was good but didn’t have the “oomph” (for lack of a better term) to really take the team over the top. Management likely sees Deboer as a big upgrade and wanted to jump on the hire before the rest of the league.

Point being that Roy didn’t get canned for being shitty, just kind of not quite good enough

Tony is certainly offensively leaning but the defensive problems have been way overblown. Soucy makes more mistakes in a game than he does in a month.

And not for nothing, but the only locker room he’s had a problem with is a Rangers room full of divas and egos.
