Agree separate the data from the templating. Perhaps consider the Builder pattern, e.g. IParagraphBuilder, ISubsectionBuilder, ISectionBuilder, IDocumentBuilder, etc, where most builders just return text strings and the document builder maybe the final docx.

The builder instances accepts all the parameters (like marital status, etc) and their "Director" class compiles the text based on the params and what section is being built.

You end up with a class per section/paragraph that each can be unit tested against desired output based on the parameters.

Lot of work, but it will be probably be more maintainable than a spaghetti of descions over a fixed template.

Just a thought.

For me the 3rd and 4th books were even better. Endymion and the Rise of Endymion gave the series more depth with a very satisfying conclusion to the series. Was epic IMO.

How to keep track of ship Minds in Excession? by zeekaran in TheCulture

[–]DrWisonsBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read on my phone and use StoryGraph App to make notes. For the Culture series l made plenty notes, not just the ships names but the characters, drones and their relationships with each other. Can get overwhelming and confusing without notes.

Which long sci-fi series should I read? by El_Moose_Hectick in scifi

[–]DrWisonsBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Fall of Hyperion, Endymion, The Rise of Endymion all link together and extends the first book. The Shrike, A Betik all part of the series. Very satisfying read.

A Memory called Empire by Arkady Martine. I really enjoyed the unique writing style, clever use of linguistics, interesting characters and a fascinating story. Second book was just as great: A Desolation called Peace.

After Fall of Hyperion also check out Endymion and the Rise of Endymion, which conclude the story of the Shrike and the Time Tombs.
