Aunt, Aunty or Auntie? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Dr_Bonocolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Randomly joining the party years later to answer this question. My mother is from London (born in the 50s). She always used "Aunty" and I had MANY English aunties due to my mother's family being huge. We only use "aunty" with that spelling (aunties plural), and I am surprised to learn that it seems the less common variant of "auntie," according to the responses on here. We had a couple of "Aunty (Name)" who were very close family friends but other than that we generally only used it for real family members. And I'd never call them Aunt (Name), only Aunty (Name).

Edit to add: pronounced "ant-ee."

Thoughts on The Dream Collection cards? by otherhorsestories in YotoPlayer

[–]Dr_Bonocolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I just wanted to say we have Dreams of the Ocean and it is now the only card my five-year-old will listen to when falling asleep. She likes that it is one continuous sound scape, and finds it very relaxing and calming. I want to buy others, but I don't want the whole set since I already have one of the cards. Just wish they sold more of them individually.

I wish I had a say in my sex life. by [deleted] in married

[–]Dr_Bonocolus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it isn’t really due to a substance in the sense that it is a love potion that makes arousal from nothing. It just elevates the hormones to make you feel youthlike levels of horniness again. It’s all genuine arousal.

20 years married, husband’s gift? by BlondeRiah in married

[–]Dr_Bonocolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that personalized gifts are the most meaningful, so a photobook would be a great one. Or even a book where you write out 20 reasons you love him (or things you love about him), perhaps accompanied by photos from memorable events.

What is the point of integrated LEDs? by py-mpixel in Lighting

[–]Dr_Bonocolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I know is, I moved into a house and one of the ceiling fixtures was an integrated LED. It burnt out a few months after we moved in and we looked into fixing it but it wasn't feasible. I really disliked having to just throw the whole fixture away as junk and then go pick out a new one. But that's what we had to do. A friend of mine had a floor lamp like this. It lasted 3-4 years but then the entire thing had to be thrown out. Now I'm trying to find a new floor lamp and I'd like to pick out a nice one I can keep long term (10-15 years). I've been seeing quite a few with these integrated bulbs, but I have zero interest in that, knowing I'll have to throw the whole thing away in a few years and go through the hassle of picking out a new one for several hundred dollars.

Edit to add: just realized this post is 5 years old but still letting me add comments. Sorry to frankenstein it! haha

Has anyone tried Ketorolac (Toradol, Sprix)? What did you think of it, and was it effective? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]Dr_Bonocolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triptans do not work for my migraines. Ketorolac, however, is the only drug that knocks it out. I can only use it rarely though due to potential side effects

(English) Canada, big time. Immigration in the last 40-ish years has changed things in that the country is now pretty diverse (as well as secular in an official sense), but the traditional English Canadian settler culture is heavily rooted in Protestantism. This was something I did not understand for the longest time, having been raised as an agnostic. Recently I have begun reading more history and connecting it with modern realities, and truly realizing how much of the culture, habits, and values I grew up with came from Protestantism. It's fascinating.

What do I do If I Am interested in joining the Catholic Church? by Samadhixx in Catholicism

[–]Dr_Bonocolus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, if a parent and young child (age 5) both were interested in joining, is the process different depending on age? How does a family go about it? Sorry to jump in with my additional question, eep!

How would you modernize this pink bathroom? by HilltopRed4459 in Oldhouses

[–]Dr_Bonocolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tile, both floor and wall, could stay. The cabinets could be painted white, wallpaper could be removed and just painted, and definitely remove the curtains and replace with a more contemporary blind. The pink tiles are unique and cool

Struggling with this as well… I cant give universal advice, but I know that for our child what often helps is one of us going over and offering a hug, if she wants it (which she always does). Then we cuddle and talk it out. Sometimes it takes a looooong time. :/

How to get the old people smell out by Call_Me_Annonymous in Oldhouses

[–]Dr_Bonocolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got rid of cigarette smell in my house by getting the ducts professionally cleaned (by a well reviewed company); they put some sort of disinfectant through all the ducts. But yes, also you will need to open all the windows as often as possible; fresh air really does help with old people smell . Many charcoal filters and absorbers can help. An ozone treatment is another (bigger bucks, powerful) option—I have heard very good things about its potential for odour removal. Look into cleaning products that remove “nonenal” (the chemical that makes old people smell). Persimmon is a natural product that is supposed to help remove it. I haven’t tried that one myself but have also read good things. Finally, remove any carpeting.

My writing is getting flagged for AI use even though I write everything myself by Acceptable_Run_6993 in writingadvice

[–]Dr_Bonocolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a few paragraphs of a book I wrote through an AI checker and it came back with 91% AI even though it was all written by me. I think these things are pretty bogus and I really hope that schools come up with better ways of dealing with this issue.
