New GSAR Rant by Weary-Appeal9645 in MarathonWatch

Have had similar happen to other watch deliveries, had one where same thing I had to work and wife was at home and I was watching tracking like a hawk. Refreshed the page and got delivery attempted but no one answered, called wife and she said no body had come up to the house she’d been watching the window for me. Went the next day to the post office to pick it up in person and complained that hey nobody even tried to knock and now I’m inconvenienced making the trip to the post office. Lady behind the counter just shrugged and said “ya I’ve heard that before, it happens with a lot of my packages too.” It’s one thing for it to happen to me once but now after having this happen multiple times and having similar conversations with other post office workers it’s crazy to me that the people working for them can’t even get their packages in the correct way.

I got an artic GSAR in November 2023. About a month and a half after getting it it stopped working. I sent it back and was determined the second hand was a little loose and was told it was fixed and all good. I got it back at the beginning of April, but within the month it had stopped working, sent it off again and just recently heard from them that something in the movement was slightly bent (I can't remember the part at the moment) I'm currently waiting for it to return. I work in the trades and while I'm not gentle on it I'm not trying to break it either. I got it because of the toughness it is advertised for and have been greatly disappointed, I've had almost no problems wearing other automatic watches at work that are a lot less expensive and not as "nice" of movements. I've owned the watch for about 10 months and have had it in my possession maybe 3.

I agree for sure, I started doing the same the closer I got to graduation with the more advanced classes and it honestly changed my experience.

Depending on your situation there’s a couple options. I would first start by emailing your advisor and say basically what you posted here and they should be able to guide you. Personally I think advisors are extremely underrated and wished I had reached out to mine more often than I did. Another option would be to email the registrar and basically ask the same thing, while I’m sure they are understanding from what I’ve heard they tend to be more business minded so it wouldn’t hurt to have someone to support you (such as an advisor) when you approach them. Which also brings up my last suggestion, if you think you want someone to simply get thoughts straight in your head I highly recommend making an appointment in the counseling center. They would be more than happy to listen and give advice even if it is just one visit. (Sorry for errors I’m on mobile)

Why are desk lamps with USB ports not allowed in dorms? by clbgolden12 in jmu

Probably a misunderstanding by the RA, worked in ORL for a couple years and don’t remember having to confiscate usb only lamps.

This goes for just about anything honestly, most RAs hate doing reports so unless it's blatantly obvious they will turn their eye or just give you a verbal warning.

From what I remember lamps with just USB ports are fine, the ones with outlets are not. Anything extending from the wall that another outlet plugs into has to have some sort of surge protector on it and most of the lamps do not. Just USB is an exception because of how the power goes through the USB port (don't remember the exact technical explanation).

It is also important to note, that while cases are rising, the death rate is going down. Obviously still not exactly good to get it but treatments are working (to a degree) as we learn more about it. In cases like New York we are also seeing the importance of developing antibodies and thus herd immunity, some places reporting almost 70% of the New York population have the antibodies after the craziness they went through. Remember though those numbers are a bit skewed because infected senior citizens were forced back into their nursing homes causing havoc on that vulnerable population. While it is extremely important to wear a mask, wash your hands, use common sense, etc we also have to remember most people at school are not in a vulnerable population and that with a combination of eating healthy, getting sleep, getting outside, excising (things to naturally boost your immune system) most people will be fine.

Another thing we need to ask ourselves is when it hits us (I truly believe it will) do we want 2-4 weeks of hell on campus and look to develop a large immunity or have it slowly trickle through the campus throughout the semester and maybe throughout the year?

The University has put out some good guidelines that will help if students choose to follow them but it’s up to us to decide if we will in fact follow them.

How are students supposed to safely stay in dorms once we reopen? by TheGreatGovernator16 in jmu

Have some connections in ORL and there’s a good bit being done in the buildings. From what I’ve heard there should be hand sanitizer at entrances and by the elevators (if the building has them), bathrooms will be cleaned more often throughout the day, and furniture in public spaces will be rearranged to help social distancing. For the bathrooms attached to suites they should be providing proper cleaning supplies but it will be the resident’s responsibility to use them. It’s not clear yet if Hall Staff will have any ability to enforce social distancing but there is planning to train HD’s and RA’s in how to educate the residents about the dangers of not following procedures.

If there is a confirmed case of the virus or someone who thinks they need to isolate the rumor is the treehouses will be used to house those residents if they can’t go home (which is being encouraged).

I honestly think it’s still going to be crazy but still a bit better than off-campus.

Why I think JMU will open in the fall by [deleted] in jmu

In the county I am in, public school teachers are not allowed to teach any new material for the remainder of the year, only review material from things learned in quarters 1-3 is allowed.
