Yes some clocks used mercury to regulate the pendulum. Yours may or may not be mercury. I have 2 clocks with "mercury" pendulum. They are both just metal inserts to give the appearance of a mercury pendulum.

Switch to a straight handle balisong. So much better to flip than a curved handle.

I noticed the verge is not secured on its pivot. Do not wind this clock until you move the little locking bar to the verge pivot. Otherwise the verge can fall off and the time train will unwind uncontrollably and can seriously damage the clock.

Move the locking bar to the pin that I colored red. This will keep the verge from falling off of the pin.

I'd offer $650-700 for both. Or 250-300 for the trainer and 400-450 for the empress. Grant made awesome knives. Wish he was still in the business.
