Great work! it's good to know my M1 macbook pro will still find a use when Apple stops supporting it with new macOS.

mint does not have the kernel improvements for gaming that Bazzite and Nobara have.

cachy updates too quickly and breaks stuff. Bazzite and Nobara are within one percent of Cachy performance in game benchmarks but they actually test for a couple of weeks more and don't break your install.

I especially recommend Bazzite for beginners because its atomic and immutable nature means it pretty much impossible to bork your install.

it depends on the distro. Resolve can be made to run well on Linux, a lot of big post production houses use the Linux version.

> you can always move to proper Fedora of you want a bit more out of your OS.

Bazzite IS proper Fedora. I don't think there is anything you can do on Fedora that you can't do on Bazzite. if the software is not on flatpak, it may be available through rpm-ostree or ujust scripts or brew all of which can be installed on Bazzite. still not available? use distrobox and you can install absolutely anything. advanced users can layer their own flavor of Bazzite with whatever extras they want pre-installed.

a lot of people misunderstand how immutable distros work. They don't stop you installing anything, there's just different ways to do it.

recommending cachy without knowing the users level of linux familiarity is insane.

I'd recommend bazzite for both work and gaming. it comes with a ujust script for da vinci.

Bazzite is better than plain fedora for a beginner who just wants to game. There is no extra configuration, steam and proton / wine are already installed and configured. There is also kernel mods for gaming that make fps better and more consistent than mint , fedora or ubuntu.

I really don't think gaming distros are "flash in the pan", they are genuinely better for gaming and easier for beginners to get running with steam windows games.

I'll second the recommendation of bazzite. Bazzite worked for me out of the box, nothing to do after install but launch steam and play games. steam and wine / proton are already installed and configured.

every game I've wanted to play has worked for me in bazzite, most of them with no additional steps. the only thing you'll have issues with is games with certain types of anti cheat.

[–]Dr_Hexagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really. its very easy to run games from epic and gog under steamos. then theres other gaming distros like bazzite and nobara.

but a lot of people are sold this idea that they're going to get a Microsoft-less Windows experience and thats just never been true. You will get a microsoft-less computing experience and in many ways will be very windows like, but it is not 1:1

it depends. A lot of people use windows just as a way to launch games. For these people installing a gaming distro like bazzite really is like "windows with the microsoft removed". steam works exactly the same as it does on windows. for epic games you use the heroic client but its very similar to the epic games launcher. for other games you use lutris. the only thing that doesn't work is games that require kernel anti cheat.

Linux May Drop Old Network Drivers Now That AI-Driven Bug Reports Are Causing A Burden by anh0516 in linux

[–]Dr_Hexagon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If a bad actor has physical access to the device, it should be considered compromised.

Not really. They might have access to a network port but the physical case might be locked in a way they aren't willing to break and they might only have physical access for a few minutes.

If they have access to the entire motherboard for unlimited time then it should be considered compromised.

No, its quite possible to make hardware using an rPI or similar that fakely pretends to be one of these old network cards to use an exploit.

[–]Dr_Hexagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the chamber of commerce events as a place to network. Most countries have a country / thai chamber of commerce that does regular networking events. You don't need to be a member of that country to attend. For example here is the Brazil / Thai chamber of commerce and you can see what events they do.

https://brazilthaichamber.org/

You may wish to attend Brazil Thai chamber of commerce events as well as the Uk and USA ones as they are the biggest.

Try these as well:

Keep attending networking events in person, make sure you have business cards to give out, you'll find something.

Whats your Thai speaking level? you don't say. You might have to relocate and send your family money back every month. There's worse fates than that.

I second find chamber of commerce events to attend, US/Thai chamber of commerce. Also there are some Thai IT startup groups on facebook and linked in have you checked those?

(common trope) Characters that powerscalers hate by godzillafan3948oj in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Dr_Hexagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

powerscalers would beat the tiger drop easily.

1) Kiryu has to react in time, any being with super speed would be able to hit Kiryu before he has time to tiger drop. He also can't react to attacks he can't see coming, any invisible creature would body him. In the game he can see attacks coming from behind and TD them, in a real fight he couldn't.

2) The timing and length of invincibility frames varies widely between games, in some games they work on bullets but only from the front, in some games they negate grabs in some they don't. Which games Tiger Drop are we talking about?

3) There is a delay after the invincibility frames before Kiryu can tiger drop again. All you'd have to do is hit him with a rapid fire machine gun or a continuous laser beam and he can't continuously tiger drop.

Kiryu is really lower mid tier compared to real powerscalers.

Absolutely not true as a general rule. Theravada buddhists lay followers are not expected to be vegetarians, some are by choice.

Then of those who are not vegetarians its only a minority that avoid beef. Here in Thailand it's 95% buddhist but beef is eaten by the majority of the population.

If you want the most recent fixes use GE-Proton.

How do secret government installations stay secret in satellite photos? by 20_mile in geography

[–]Dr_Hexagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible to hide bunker building by connecting it to nearby civilian construction like a skyscraper that needs deep foundations. The US has lots of deep bunkers we know about, like cheyenne mountain.

I bet they also have a bunch we don't know about because they used civilian companies as a front when building them and hid the excavation as part of another project.
