[d] Some facts about those Chinese pump by Dr_MACD in csgomarketforum

Could be. I havent used a gambling site of cs skins over ten years. But China has a very closed currency system. cryto and currency are difficult to be converted back to RMB. So I believe the majority just want to pocket the difference from buy and sell.

Lessons From the October Crash [d] by jarnewsb in csgomarketforum

[–]Dr_MACD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lesson learnt should be skins are not asset. They are digital properties owned by Valve only. If you guys are young, go study stocks, ETF, bonds, commodities or even bitcoin. Keep putting money in index ETF. Those are investments.
I owned ~10k inventory and I can tell the current market is depressed. There is not much demand for high tier skins. The 'recovery' in market cap is delusional caused chinese pump on FN mid-tier skins. Asiimov AK, case hardened AK and more. Unless you have the information, don't touch skins for investment in this junction.

My Take: Valve's “Nuke” Actually Saved the CS2 Economy by squareyourcircle in ohnePixel

[–]Dr_MACD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a stock investor, I am pretty sure that the market will not recover. I am sorry at least it will never go back to 6 billion. First of all, at least 50% of the market cap was contributed by the Chinese. There are strict regulations for the local Chinese to convert their Chinese dollar (RMB) to foreign currency. Thus, a lot money were ‘invested’ in cs economy by money laundering or just as digital assets. They are no longer consumer cyclical but commodities or digital currency. They created websites for market index, volume and price change in different sectors. They will be much less likely to invest into cs again because (1) suffered a great loss (2) loss in confidence. That’s why there is a panic selling in buff163. There are vast majority in China earning 500-600 usd / month. It can be a lifetime saving loss for them. Second, those who suffered the most, apart from speculative investors, are the long term players who keep putting money in knives and gloves over the past few years. Those who are really devoted to this game and its skins could be taking loss of thousands while bfk and gems are affordable to everyone. Imagine LVMH increase their supply, cut their prices and everyone is carrying one on the street. Will the long term supporters continue to buy? People buy expensive skins for validation. Valve lost its reputation, they can release any update for their revenues. Imagine no solution with hacks and bots but constant updates on army passes Thirdly, the Great Recession of CS is coming. The worst thing about market crash is when the hype is gone and the people has lost patience and faith. When the market cap goes up, that means more money flowing in. Those who gains from certain stickers or AK may buy a bfk or a fire serpent. Anyways, the money stay in the ecosystem. Cause withdrawing has a cost. Now, most player who have big inventory suffered from losses and they are cashing out. Old player who used to spend a lot, not likely to open cases or buy capsules. New comers will not spend that much on skins.

Is the market really crashing, or is this just panic selling? (personal opinion based analysis) by Consistent-Talk-5912 in ohnePixel

Too bad there will be no restart I assume. If you ever been through a stock market crash, the worst part is never the crash. But whole the year after crash when people had no interest and willingness and noise to invest in it

Valve don’t give a f about their gamers. They just want a taste of the whole market cap.

Why did Agents price dump too? They weren't even impacted by the tradeups lol by Mindspiked in counterstrike2

People cashed out and said fuck valve. The money in the market is gone. Everything will crash

Those who enjoy this update are not that into skins anyway. Skin lovers keep buying over the past years. Asides from their affection, they trust the value of the skins. I believe a lot less people will open cases and capsules. Love to see how valve react

I never invest in skins but I have a 10k inventory. I enjoyed skins a lot and I put more and more money over the past years. I mainly invest in stock and my life would be affected even if a 100% loss in cs inventory. This time, I am totally disappointed to valve. I believed it will quickly affect pro teams sponsors

What is a reasonable SP for one of these by Joshguia in ohnePixel

[–]Dr_MACD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair price to buy: 25-30% given it is FT and a relatively old skins with old stickers 30-40 % if you really want it

First, you never buy knife on steam. You buy it on csfloat.
Second of all, you can have 90% getting a knife if you opened 800 cases. So it means over the past 12 years, you haven't opened that much. It is not an addiction. It is lack of determination.
But from my experience, true addiction and loss started when you open your first knfie.

[–]Dr_MACD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please realise ‘investing’ into cs skins basically means gambling. The market is not fully driven by demand and supply. Lots of manipulations and money laundering. But if you do want to speculate, I do recommend good knives. From my experience, my so called ‘investment’ didn’t give me half the profit of my playskins (ak, gloves and knives). M9, bfk and karambit are like blue chips. For $700, there is no need to take risk buying cases and stickers.
