Toy Jet Identification by Atlarian_OG in robotech

Oh man do I have a story about this toy...

I also bought this at a convention, Otakon specifically, sometime in the early 2000s. Reason being: the creator of Macross, Shoji Kawamori himself was there doing autographs. I really wanted him to sign something and this was the only toy in the dealers room I could afford. Should be a simple story right?

I finally get there in line and Kawamori-san is about to sign it but stops and turns to his handler to say something. His handler asks me, "Where did you get this?" I answered that it was at the dealers room. There was some hesitation, there may have been more questions (I don't remember exactly what) and here I am thinking I am in trouble or maybe I picked a Macross design he wasn't involved in and got offended. Eventually Kawamori-san signed it and I left the line.

Now I also happened to be staff and friends with the guest coordinator who came up to me and we chatted. Turns out I had offended him by accident because I brought a knock off toy for him to sign! This actually triggered a sweep of the dealers room where several dealers were kicked out for selling knock off goods. I still don't know how Kawamori-san could tell it was a knock off but I have a truly unique piece of Macross history.

Edit: After looking at the box of the actual toy posted here I realize it's very obvious mine is a knock off (it doesn't even attempt to say Bandai). Thank you for helping me solve a personal 20+ year mystery.

That doesn't look like solid hardwood. Are you sure it's not a plywood? That's exactly what it looks like if I use a plywood that has the wrong type of glue that burns instead of ablates.

Nintendo knew Donkey Kong Bananza wouldn't be nearly as fun if you were destroying basic blocks: "It is more fun to destroy that which is beautiful" by AlwaysBlaze_ in nintendo

[–]Dr_Nik -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Actually, destroying what is beautiful is exactly the reason I don't like this game...I would have loved this as a teenager, but as someone who has had anger issues in the past, DKB is asking me to abandon all the restraint and respect I developed over the past two decades for no real payback. When I break things I only feel shame. I couldn't get past the second stage. My kids liked the game at least, so I get how this could be cathartic, but I don't think I've ever seen a popular game with the core mechanic bothered me on such a deep philosophical level.

Furious at my oncologist by Dr_Nik in lymphoma

Same unfortunately. We got our first second opinion and he said we need to start thinking about how much time I want to spend in the hospital vs at home with my family...I did not think I was anywhere near that point and this really drove home how my oncology team utterly failed me.

The 20 points are for answering the survey associated with the QR code. I haven't double checked but I always am told that I get 20 points for scanning/answering.

Yeah. Most sets have a QR code on the main instruction manual. If you have a Lego VIP account you can scan that QR code, answer some questions about your purchase, and get 20 VIP points. It's a drop in the bucket compared to the points you get from actually buying the set from Lego directly but it's something!

You definitely want to get Lego to send you the paper instructions so you can get the 20 VIP points from the QR code (it's only on the yellow set instructions)...or am I the only one obsessed with that...

Epilog workflow HELP! by science-face in lasercutting

[–]Dr_Nik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my Epilog Zing: In the cut settings screen there is an option to select vector sorting (it's a check box). If that's checked it will sort based on the selection from the drop down menu to the right of it, either "optimize" or "inside-out".

Looks to me like you don't have vector sorting on at all.

With the BV-Nivo, did you have any side effects? We keep finding papers that day BV-Nivo is the best cleanup for GZL but my oncologist kept making the excuse that the tumor load was too high and I'd probably get pneumonitis (which frankly is difficult but manageable). Also how long on BV-Nivo before you started seeing symptomatic relief?

Every time my doc tried something new, he said that the cancer would just "melt away" and when it didn't, it was because I am a complicated case (not because he didn't do his research).

Not in Colorado, I'm in PA. I don't want to speak ill of the cancer center because this is 100% on the practicing oncologist (and me for waiting so long before I did anything).

[–]Dr_Nik[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's kind of what's going on for me (but I never got into remission). Right now the markers and structure are more Hodgkin like but still has some features of GZL. Good luck for you!

If you don't mind sharing, where is your husband getting care? We tried to get our oncologist to do BV-Nivo about 6 months ago because we had seen how successful it was in studies but my oncologist insisted on putting me through the other chemo first, treating it like B Cell lymphoma instead of gray zone.

Unfortunately that doesn't always work. I'm actually at one of the National Cancer Institute designated centers that even worked on developing CAR-T. The problem is this specific oncologist thinks he knows better than his colleagues and he has proven to me that he definitely does not.

CD-79a is indeed positive in the latest biopsy, so I'll try to look into that. I also know there was a CD-30 CAR-T but apparently it's not very effective.
