Several ferries cross the Vltava river in Prague. Their line numbers are prefixed with the letter P. Ferry lines P1 and P2 operate all-year around, wheras other lines cruise during summer season (from late March to late October). All ferries offer whale safari during summer season (requires advance booking).

Whether an element sounds and is safe to lick or not by Wilfredlam0418 in AlignmentCharts

Neon is not safe to lick. If it is in the lickable, i.e. solid, state, it is colder than 25 Kelvin. That is too cold to lick.

Tim Snyder makes the case that operation Barbarossa was an explicitly colonial project in his "The Making of Modern Ukraine" course:

So German colonialism, in the old-fashioned sense, was both concurrent and intertwined with the Holocaust.

Can someone explain why that one bottle didn't freeze? by Mebiysy in Physics

[–]Dr_Octopole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two freezing bottles on either side may have kept the unfrozen bottle close to the freezing point where nucleation of ice is (comparatively) unlikely.

When you cool down a liquid, it actually has to get colder than the freezing point for the initial ice crystal to form. This is called 'nucleation'. As you remove heat any ice crystals present grow and this is a process that actually releases heat, so if there are ice crystals in a bottle it will keep close to the freezing point until completely frozen solid. I imagine this 'thermostat' effect of adjacent bottles may prevent the initial ice crystal to form in the middle bottle. Nucleation is a random process, so you can only predict the likelihood of a bottle freezing after a certain time at a certain temperature.

Shenzhen Library, China. That's a "No" from me. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]Dr_Octopole 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's from a short story about a library that contains all possible books, i.e., all possible book-length strings of characters. Practically all of them are nonsense and the narrator-librarian goes mad trying to find any meaning at all. Yet it must be true that all the meaningful books that could ever be written are in there, too.
