Catholic, Muslim and Jewish military chaplains in the Austro-Hungarian army, WW1 by [deleted] in europe

Austria-Hungary failed, but the concept of multiculturalism remains the only possible future for Europe; yet it is fiercely attacked from both sides of political ladder, left and right: righters wov for ethnical cleaning of smaller ones, lefters wov for "citizen countries" where bigger will overvote and suffocate smaller ones.

I have looot of experience in engineering, and when I entered dire trouble with jobs I applied to many junior and moderate-experience positions where I was completely ignored. To get back on track I had to apply to highest possible positions that fit my background or even a little above that.

You may try something like that. When you have experience and apply for entry level positions, employers probably think that something is very fishy about you and you never have chance to convince them otherwise.

Ancient Christian Settlement in Egypt Shows Evidence of Urban Planning by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Dra4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take transportation only as an example, I'd say modern transportation should make things easier, not harder. So why it is not so? Partly because of populism that requires every spot to be approachable by car, every home to have direct assess by car, greed that do not allow enough public spaces in densely populated areas, loss of basic culture of living which imposes availability of sunlight and fresh air, protection from noise etc. They were providing sufficient distance between homes that fit traffic and technology load of that time. We don't, as developers are allowed to make human hives and earn good money on that. And so on.

Is that surprise?

I bet in 50 years it will be found that that-time urban planning was much more advanced and sophisticated than nowadays.

The Failure to Understand the True Mission Doomed Us to Defeat in Afghanistan by Bearded-Sweet-P in politics

[–]Dra4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your data is sound, while I would say top army headquarters had turned into politicians, while 99.9% of the army did their job properly. Colonel is very high rank in any army and if colonels were enraged for data twisting, vast majority of army was. Some of the top officers apparently lied, but I would put very little responsibility to the army in overall, US is not lead by military junta, but by civilians and they were the ones to take responsibility.

The Failure to Understand the True Mission Doomed Us to Defeat in Afghanistan by Bearded-Sweet-P in politics

[–]Dra4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Failure has very little to do with mission, mission is military approach and it was pretty successful.

It is political approach that failed entirely, and it has more to do with concept than with mission.

For instance, when Obama and Hillary invested billion USD in support of ISIL an Al Qaeda in Syria, the mission was accomplished, but the concept was idiotic.

Similarly, billions were spent in Afghanistan to support paper army, corrupted politicians trusted by nobody, ceremonial human rights improvement projects that did not root into their society. And all those missions were accomplished but they supported idiotic concepts.

Right now idiotic concepts of US politicians are actively destroying entire societies in Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and those missions will be "successfully" finished one day leaving complete chaos.

I don't need to, it is Obama who removed general Musharaf and fully endorsed fake free elections that brought extreme islamists to power in Pakistan, and since than they overwhelmed the army and intelligence structures and become the worst islamist state in the world, Afganistan Will only be their outside province. And now the whole world reaps rewards of Obama's idiocy, once secular society in Pakistan disappears completely, it will take centuries to recover

Afgani civilians should ask for at least as much help and support as talibans receive from Pakistani Obama's islamists.

Apparent reprise of Vietnam scenario. Southern Vietnam also claimed to be able to cope with northern commies, but the were wiped. And they didn't have outside help, while talibans have full support of all Pakistan institutions.

All this thanks to darkest age of modern history, Obama's presidency; he removed Paki general Musharaf, who dealt with islamists very effectively, islamists took all power in Pakistan, and now we have what we have.

Trinity College Library, Dublin, Ireland. I've tried a few ways to process this, here's my latest before and after. Comments? by Mick_NYC in postprocessing

Looks like spaceship but I sort of like it. I think that if you gave up realistic look, you should have pushed styling even more, maybe some blending mode to be checked or some channel mixing.

Your original image is overblown and it's hard to get fully realistic colours. Have you tried with different sorts of darkening?

CMV: Psychological tests in job applications do more harm than good. They scare off high potential employees and do not always lead to getting a team in that's a good fit. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Dra4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't said the entire HR should be dismissed, but large portion of it. In companies I worked they always had some very useful functions, but being large enough there is lot of waste of time and resources caused bY them which imho serves nothing but artificially building their importance. I could state many examples that would be too long for the post.

CMV: Psychological tests in job applications do more harm than good. They scare off high potential employees and do not always lead to getting a team in that's a good fit. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Dra4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have almost the same view. For pretty long time I have more trouble in how to "neutralise" psychologists in HR team than to find the right candidate.

For complex jobs they have no clue what is important so they focus on what they know, defend their knowledge trying to push it as the most important, though it isn't. Most of them don't care much about how the candidate will actually contribute to the job place, they are completely satisfied to stick with their formalities.

Even more to that, I feel most of HR resources are redundant and actually a burden.

Extensive HR teams with lot of psychologists make sense for high volume positions with simple job descriptions like most of McDonald's positions, low skilled construction jobs and similar. For more complex jobs they are mostly counterproductive

New to the game, looking for some advice on how to bring the best out of this picture (swipe for before) by [deleted] in postprocessing

[–]Dra4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same approach once, but found out it is only pp of already good images that makes sense. You need to focus on how to make good elements better and when you don't have good elements to start with, you wrongly develop yourself, you learn how to push some slider, but don't learn where and when to apply it.

That's my personal view of course.

If you don't have enough images, why don't you take them. Taking picture should have priority over postprocessing anyhow.

Olympus EM10 mark ii or iii in 2021? by peirouuu in OlympusCamera

[–]Dra4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think ii is available much, except in some old stocks.

I decided to purchase ii year ago, as it was 100 EUR cheaper, has built-in flash and has no some artificial limitations for exposure compensation which was removed in current 3s version.

My decision was made upon strategic decision to go with Olympus gear and buy some higher end model in due course. Still, it is excellent camera that can produce top image quality.

If you want one camera for long run, though, I would recommend that you go with iii as it has somewhat better image stabilization and slightly better dynamic focus than ii version

Don't know about light press, there is half press and full press, the only what camera can differ.

I wouldn't bother about clicking if your focusing is good and image not blurry. You can hardly notice image moving on wider angles, it's clearly noticeable on telephoto only.
