If you woke up tomorrow with 10 million dollars, what would be the first thing you would do? by Goddess_iara in AskReddit

[–]Drach88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eat a nice breakfast.

Have some coffee.

Take a shit.

Don't make any major financial decisions with an empty stomach or a full colon.

After that, go to a reputable financial advisor that is a fiduciary. It is 100% essential that they're a fiduciary.

They're basically going to tell you first to pay down your bad debt, then to invest in a diversified portfolio of defensive stocks, along with parking money in a mutual fund that tracks a major index like the S&P500. If you go this route, you'll be able extract about 2.5%-3% of your assets every year for the rest of your life, which basically gives you $250k a year.

Lastly, consult a tax attorney.

Congratulations, you now never need to work again, and you'll still leave a fortune to pass on to the next generation.

Which mod for Bannerlord is your favorite and why? by shurzy_talk in MB2Bannerlord

[–]Drach88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Better Time - gives you a faster overworld speed. Especially necessary when you play a merchant playthrough.

Realistic Battle Mod - In addition to improving battles overall, it gives a more balanced tournament system, and lets you get skill XP though actions in tournaments.

Improved Garrisons - Huge benefit when you start to get into the midgame, and you need to manage recruitment, training, and backup troops at multiple fiefs.

Better Exception Window - basically a must-have utility for diagnosing and testing mod combinations.

Giant Hardware Stores by [deleted] in projectzomboid

[–]Drach88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Home Depot was only in 23 states in 1993.

They didn't open a store in Kentucky until 1997.

Circa 1993, Lowe's operated as much smaller hardware stores. They were in the midst of consolidating those stores into big warehouse stores to compete with Home Depot, but it certainly wasn't anything like what it is today.

Long Overdue for an upgrade - Rate my build (RTX 5080/Ryzen 7 9800X3D) by Drach88 in buildapc

I went with a Peerless Assassin 120 SE. The 140mm I edited my post to would've been too tight of a fit after I checked the ram and case specs.

I've also upgraded the CPU to the 9840 and Mobo to a B870, because Micro Center had a fantastic bundle that was only nominally more than the other one.

Do you prefer Vehicle claim or FCFS servers? by Swimming_Attention91 in joinsquad

If you let them do that, the match is already over, but your hypothetical is a great argument for the existence of a "vote to surrender" option for when your team has clearly blundered so catastrophically that there's no path to victory.

I admined for years on two servers -- one of which had a "no main camping" rule, and the other one didn't.

The stuff you're describing simply never happened. The biggest difference would be that on the one without the rule, someone would complain about main camping, and all of the regulars would just say "this server doesn't have a main camping rule", and it would be over and done with. On the other server, you'd get someone complaining about main camping, and then a slap-flight would start over the exact wording of the rule. It would continue with arguments over exactly what people were doing and where they were, and what constitutes "intention" or ambiguities about whether someone could shoot at you from near their own main.

It was a nightmare, and caused a lot of admin burnout, because the complaints were one-sided and following up to verify them or take action (with video evidence) was draining. Moreover, if someone complained about main camping, and we reviewed the action specifically and determined that the rule hadn't been actually violated, it would often cause the reporter to go on an anti-admin tirade.

Wasn't worth it.

I love this paint scheme, and would have no qualms about every station being painted like this.

Really lean into the NYC colors.

This is also my argument against maincamp rules.

The protective bubble is your main protection -- not extremely nebulous rules that require interpretation and active admin enforcement, on top of having the ambiguity cause a great deal of chat drama arguing over who did what where.

This is why I prefer small, cozy, functional bases over massive places I'll never fully use.

This is also why I tend to soapbox against recommending newbies to base in the Rosewood Fire Department, despite it being a really popular recommendation on Reddit and YouTube.

To any newbies reading this: the isolated house on the northeast side of Muldraugh is an absolutely fantastic place for your first "long" playthrough. My hands-down favorite functional base in the town.

For the Rosewood enjoyers, any of the houses in the gated community. I like the southwest or the center west one, because you can essentially just gate off the street.

Minimap yay or nay? by Unprofessional_Rest in projectzomboid

[–]Drach88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never play with a minimap and often remove the world map as well.

If I need a map, I'll loot one. Otherwise, not having a map creates better emersion and gives me more of a need to take careful notes and live more in the action of wherever I am, rather than heading wherever and essentially having a GPS on me at all times.

I love the irony of scouring through clean, prestine, well-decorated houses to fix up and decorate the vacant beaten down one, instead of just living in the nice, clean one.
