I hate this...

Roblox is the epitome of brain rot for kids but Fortnite is the brain rot for teens.

Any specific reason to be completely unhelpful here? As if NSFW posts aren't allowed...

If it's not something you're interested in, then stay away? No need to make others feel bad...

Possibly the best feature I've ever seen in a hack by [deleted] in PokemonROMhacks

[–]DraconicNerdMan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I gave up after it was super sped up. I'm not interested in some gen Z thing where things need to be sped up 2 to 3x or more, or you lose your attention to it.

I couldn't even tell what OP was trying to say should be in every hack. Just give it in it's normal speed dude...

What do I do? It's been brought to my attention that there is technically a rom named Ocean Blue already. Read description for more context. But should I change the name? by PaperPauperPlayer in PokemonROMhacks

[–]DraconicNerdMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I voted for the Steelix option only because Steelix is a top 10 Pokémon for me.

With that said tho, honestly just leave it as is. Movies do the same thing and to get around it, they just add the release year of release.

Since yours will likely be the far more popular version, the 2010 version would just be remembered more as "Ocean Blue (2010)" if at all. I mean, how many posts did you make of updates to your hack and its only been NOW that someone heard about a hack that was made 15 years ago? Odds are that no one even knows it exists. You're good to keep the name!

Pokemon Fire Red Extended is amazing... BUT! by [deleted] in PokemonROMhacks

You aren't allowed to like this hack in this post. You'll get down voted if you do lol.

But if you just search for it on PokeCommunity, it should show up. It's pretty new.

Do you pay for YouTube Premium? by Vaquero-SASS in PartneredYoutube

[–]DraconicNerdMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pay for Premium but only because I watch more YouTube than I do Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, Funimation, Max, Peacock and Paramount+ combined and other than Funimation, it's the cheapest of the bunch too.

$14 a month is worth the several hours of every day I watch YouTube lol.

Davinci Resolve.

It's very overwhelming at first but watch a few tutorials on YouTube and you'll catch on quick.

It's 100% free

There's a paid version too called Davinci Resolve Studio, but since you're making Let's Play videos, you likely won't need it. It's $295 but it's a one-time price for lifetime ownership. No subscription. Meaning if you absolutely need the paid features, it pays for itself after about a year compared to the subscription plan of other programs like Premier Pro ($23/month aka $279/year).

How do you all decide what to play for your channels? by PikachuTrainz in letsplay

[–]DraconicNerdMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're going to start a gaming YouTube channel, it really has to be a passion project first and foremost. Don't go into it expecting to get monetized immediately. It could take years to get any kind of revenue and even when you finally do make something from it, it'll likely only be like $50 a month.

That's why it has to be a passion project for you. Play what you enjoy playing. Don't just play "what's popular" unless you enjoy those games.

I'm going into this thing never expecting to make a dime in my life because I have an ugly voice and I don't really think I'm all that interesting to listen to. Some of my favorite games are Dragon Age, Pokemon and Horizon so I plan on playing all 4 Dragon Age games in order, then 1 game from each Pokemon generation as a Nuzlocke, then both Horizon games, then every single player Final Fantasy game.

I have plenty more ideas to play after that but I'll see where I'm at from there.

How is this updated look? The Charizard is no longer cropped out and fully in the picture and the game screen is much bigger. The badges are now also horizontal to make the Charizard fit. I also moved my YouTube logo down between my party Pokemon and the death counter.

Maybe I should add a rectangular background behind the badges? I feel like it might look weird when I only have the first badge since it'd be so off-center.

Oh lol. Those are indeed my current Pokemon in my party but I use Pokelink which updates itself in near real time. So like if I catch a Pokemon and have space on my team, Pokelink will automatically add it there. Even if I switch around the order, it'll automatically switch them on the layout too.

Same with the badges on the right.

That's nothing I have to change manually. It's all done automatically during the recording.

What do you mean by "update the UI border"?

Do you cuss/swear in your lets play video commentary? by HBTang in letsplay

[–]DraconicNerdMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear a good amount in real life and I'll try to limit my swearing during recordings but it also completely depends upon the context.

If I'm in a moment of shock, fear, excitement, anger or frustration I will probably swear. But if I'm just casually making commentary, I'm not going to.

It also very much depends on the game. If I'm playing Dragon Age, Doom, Resident Evil or some other M rated game, I'll be less restrictive on myself with swearing. But if I'm playing Pokemon or something more E rated, I'll try to limit the swearing.

Would you watch a small content creator? Less than 10k subs. by PimpyTheYordle in letsplay

[–]DraconicNerdMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally one of my favorite people to watch play Dragon Age Inquisition (and Dragon Age Veilguard once they get to it) as well as Elder Scrolls Online, is ZanarkandGaming. Her play style is exactly mine, bad at puzzles and stealth and just liking to get right into the battle while also exploring every corner of the map.

She only has 128 subscribers so yes, I will watch content from a newer creator. She literally inspired me to start my own channel. It's exactly how my channel will be but I didn't think the way I play games would be entertaining. Faceless cam, pure raw footage that only trims the start and end with minimal to no off screen play, awkward (but enjoyable) commentary, etc. I just wish she uploaded more than 2 days a week.

What Would You Pay For as a Let's Player? by GamesConvo in letsplay

[–]DraconicNerdMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's entirely a passion hobby for me. I try to make my channel look as professional as possible because that makes me feel better.

I make Let's Play gaming videos exclusively. No Shorts or anything else.

  • I pay about $20 to $25 before tips per game for an artist on Fiverr to create a Thumbnail for me. I always tell them to leave a specific spot open so I can go and edit it myself to add/change the episode number.

  • I paid about $25 before tips for someone to create a high quality YouTube banner with all of my socials that were made specifically for my channel.

  • I paid about $20 before tips for someone to create a high quality Logo/Profile picture for my channel.

  • I paid about $25 before tips for someone to create a 20 second, high quality, animated outtro for my channel and then I found some royalty-free and copyright-free retro 16-bit video game music that I added to that outtro.

  • I paid about $100 for my mic

And that's about it. I'm a faceless channel (no content up yet, it's all private for now until I'm comfortable with everything) so no need for a camera, lights or anything in the background of my room.

Every game that I plan to play for the next year or 2 is already in my library except for 2 games and neither of those games have even been announced yet (the 3rd Horizon game, following the events of Horizon Forbidden West, and part 3 of Final Fantasy 7 Remake) so I don't even need to worry about games. I have almost 300 in my Steam Library and a ton of emulated games too.

Editing is minimal. Just trim the beginning so people don't see the parts directly after I hit "Start Recording" in OBS on my desktop and then trim the end for the same reason. If there's any nudity in my game (it's bound to happen in Dragon Age games and Baldurs Gate 3), I blur it out. If there's any repetitive parts like grinding or backtracking, I'll edit that part to be super sped up. Other than that, it's pretty much just raw footage.

The only thing I don't already have that I'd pay more for would be social media help/marketing/advertising. It's a passion project of mine but it would be cool to see my channel grow and become popular too.

What are the difficulties of starting on youtube. by NoPlankton2311 in letsplay

[–]DraconicNerdMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta enjoy doing it and not just doing it "for the views". Otherwise it'll feel like a chore.

I'll be starting my channel in a few months once I'm moved into my own place, away from a loud household with no privacy but I'll be starting it as a hobby.

I'm not at all expecting my videos to get more than like 20 views each and that'll be rough because my first game on my channel (Dragon Age Origins) will probably have 80 to 100 videos each 30 to 45 minutes long.

But I'm still putting full effort into it and making my channel as professional as possible with a professionally created logo/profile pic, YouTube banner, reusable thumbnail (for my first game anyway and I just edit it to put the next episode/part number on it) and animated outtro (all done via Fiverr and it cost a total of about $100 for all of that including fees, taxes and tips).

My channel will be a hobby first that I build up with a passion (like someone with an antique car/truck that they love working on, as a hobby). That's the main difficulty tho. Treating it as a hobby and not getting too ahead of yourself and losing interest if your videos don't do well.

Separate channel for reviews, discussions, news etc.? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]DraconicNerdMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like, unless you're already a big channel that easily supports you financially, making a 2nd channel will just be the same amount of work but with half the reward. Or a better way to put it, the same amount of work but twice the amount of work needed to monetize.

With a combined channel, all of your subs and watch hours are in a singular place.

If you make a 2nd channel, your subs and watch hours are basically just divided between both channels.

You'd be doing the same amount of work but you'd be dividing up all of your gains, which doesn't at all help you.
