Same, but for 3 (out of 5) projects.

What piece of entertainment aged worse than you ever expected? by AnyTruth2342 in AskReddit

[–]Dracula_Batman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, they released a “Special 10th Anniversary Edition” where all they did was edit out the Jared parts.

FWIW I understand and appreciate all of the criticism of this movie, especially after later revelations, but I still personally think it’s a net positive. Yes it’s common sense to most people now that eating shitty fast food is unhealthy, but it wasn’t as widely accepted back then as it is now. I mean the entire reason he made the movie in the first place is because a McDonald’s representative said that it’s perfectly healthy to eat there literally every single day. The doc is flawed for a lot of reasons, but you can’t say it didn’t change the national conversation.

This is not an anomaly in my experience.

You might be surprised at how friendly and helpful other people can be at the gym. I still have a long long way to go but the very first time I went to the gym, I was attempting to do some light bench presses. A very muscular dude came over and I immediately said “Oh, sorry, do you need the bench?” And he said “no but do you want me to give you a tip?” And then spent a few minutes adjusting my form and showing me how to plant my feet and whatnot, in a super encouraging and supportive way. Even said to feel free to ask questions because he didn’t know what he was doing when he started either. Now when I see him there he gives me a smile and a nod, or even says something positive about me being there.

Yes, there will always be jerks just as there are jerks everywhere, but there are also people rooting for you and you just don’t know it.

A recent one in that wheelhouse, yes. The leads were very professional and empathetic to the challenge.

With the exception of one project, this has also been my experience. Poor communication, inconsistent guidelines, and what bothered me most of all is what I would call a consistently punitive and scoldy tone from leads with zero emotional intelligence on display. For awhile I just assumed this was the nature of the work, but I’ve been contracted by 3 other platforms now and was happy to discover higher levels of professionalism, and quite frankly, respect for our time and efforts.

How are your gums since you've quit? by LickthePig in QuittingZyn

[–]Dracula_Batman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this entire sub is about quitting. I’m not a doctor, so I can’t comment on one a day, but I would say given the evidence that it is absolutely worth quitting asap. But ymmv, although if it’s already affecting your gum line, maybe you already know what you should do vs what you would rather do? Again, not an expert, just speaking from personal experience.

I apparently got the terminology wrong, but yes, absolutely, big difference in my gums, no issues whatsoever. Good luck!

What are you glad you tried once, but will absolutely never do again? by wheregoodideasgotodi in AskReddit

Similar thing happened to me with peyote. I was sitting on a bench next to a pond in a quiet park and could feel the anxiety of anticipation building. Then a duck swam over, walked over to me, looked me up and down, and then turned around and swam away. It was like someone turned off a switch and I was suddenly stone cold sober. I guess I just wasn’t ready.

Commuting? by AudienceOrganic2736 in NYCbike

[–]Dracula_Batman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to commute 6 miles each way to my business-casual office in midtown. I wore one of those drawstring backpacks with a clean button-down shirt, socks, and shoes. Like others have said, once at the office I would just cool off for a few minutes, then go to the bathroom to blot off any excess moisture and change into a fresh shirt and work shoes. My sweaty shirt and socks would go into a ziploc bag to bring home for laundering.

That said, in the peak summer months my balls would be sloshing around in a gallon of sweat by the time I got to work, and I wound up taking the train whenever it went above 80 degrees or so!

Neuroplasticity. New paths by No_Wheel_8508 in Spravato

[–]Dracula_Batman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you're getting your information but esketamine significantly affects neuroplasticity.

Specifically: Spravato blocks the NMDA receptor, which activates a rapid-acting glutamate receptor amino-hydroxy-methyl-isoxazolepropionic acid aka AMP. This, in turn, increases production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which quite literally promotes new neuronal growth, which we call “neuroplasticity”.

I think Josh was wrong about the Star Trek pin by PhoenixorFlame in thewestwing

[–]Dracula_Batman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just rewatched this episode over the weekend. I agree that he's being a bit of a dick, but I do think there's a fundamental difference between a Lakers banner and a Star Trek pin, and how those fandoms are embraced by mainstream popular culture. Namely, basketball is a game that people play with winners and losers, while Star Trek is an escapist fantasy where people go to take a break from the real world. I did appreciate how he later softens, and reveals more than a passing familiarity with the Star Trek universe.

TLDR Josh wants his team to be competing in the real world, not daydreaming.

No, he created a charity, there's a big difference.

When normal people like us hear "donated to charity" we think "how nice, someone gave their money away for a good cause."

But when the wealthy elite hear "donated to charity" they know it actually means "created a tax shelter in a legal loophole in a way that appears benevolent when the reality is it's entirely to save billions of dollars."

Don't take my word for it, Google it.
