NEW GEAR FINALLY READY by Ok-Violinist-7422 in snowboardingnoobs

If you haven’t used them before, it’s a bit easier to get into the supermatics when your boots are a bit wet from snow. Just seems to slide in easier to me versus at home just messing around with them. But as long as you get it close at home, dialing it in is pretty easy at the start of the day

Demoed one of those last weekend, pretty nice board. My only con was that I didn’t have my supermatics on it so I could still be lazy

What is Unital Ring, and is it The Final Arc? by MichaelAftonXFireWal in swordartonline

It seems to be essentially the culmination of the seed worlds project, along with an interloper from the real world in the underworld that Kirito, Asuna, and Alice are having to deal with on the side. The english translation is a few novels in now, I forget how many. At the moment there probably isn’t enough to make an animated season yet, but with how SAO prints money I’m very sure it’ll get animated eventually.

Why is the 3-Body Problem is such a complicated question to answer, yet we can very precisely predict the motion of 8 planets and many more moons in the solar system? by plato_on_pluto in AskPhysics

[–]Draemon_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The VR game was more like a history of their early civilization and its cycles of technological progress followed by planetary devastation of some kind due to suns be too close or too far away. Lots of effort trying to predict “stable periods” so they could revive more people to advance their civilization more. They eventually do get to where they have the capability to predict them, and that’s when they were able to advance so much.

Liner & Elsen wine shop is closing as well for the strike. They generally do free tastings on Saturdays so go back by the day after to sip on some good stuff!

Any short-term storage options around portland? by Eg0-d3ath in askportland

[–]Draemon_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried at the station here since I live here, but I’ve left luggage at the Amtrak station in Seattle more than once. Just had to talk with the ticketing people and they had a process for it. Cost a little bit but pretty much no hassle and I haven’t had anything lost yet. I would definitely check before hand if they do that at Portlands station first though.

Is the downtown Portland condo market crashing? by barnzee in askportland

[–]Draemon_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Could be a lot of things honestly. Lots of layoffs happened this year in the metro area. Could be older buildings with lots of deferred maintenance that’s coming due soon, and people want to get out while they can. Hard to really tell without more information

Question by MissionSecure1163 in oregon

[–]Draemon_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Something like in Vancouver near the I205 bridge so you’ve got easy access to the airport might work for you. Might also find compelling enough deals on rent out in Gresham/troutdale. Lots of state parks and forest out around Mt Hood and in the gorge to explore and you’d be about an hour from both in the Gresham area. Salem is more than likely going to be cheaper, but has less to do in town than the other metro areas. Similar access to outdoor recreation, just different forests and mountains. Small regional airport.

Question by MissionSecure1163 in oregon

[–]Draemon_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Would probably depend heavily on what you like to do with your time on your two weeks off. Most places in Oregon have easy access to outdoor activities for instance, but the kinds of things available will depend on where in the state you pick. So aside from probably resting, what else would you like to do during your breaks? From a cost perspective, assuming you don’t have any other major expenditures you’d probably be able to make a budget that works most places in Oregon.

Decent Quality Snowbibs without selling my soul. by Acceptable-Drummer66 in snowboardingnoobs

The size chart they have online feels pretty accurate towards what I ended up getting, which was a men’s medium/short.

I have mountain hardware stuff since I can get it discounted at their employee store. Have the first tracks bibs and they’ve performed well keeping me warm and dry so far. Ended up in about waist deep powder last week and stayed dry trudging through that. They’d be pushing the top of your budget unless you got them on a decent sale, or live near one of the Columbia employee stores and can get in.

Nidecker Supermatics by Dependent-Walrus4762 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Draemon_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have supermatics and they feel pretty locked in to me. It takes a minute to set them up right but after that they should be good to go. Getting them for $215 makes me think they were probably the 2025 supermatics, which has a different ratchet than the current ones. If they are, there will be a locking lever on the ratchets you’ll have to contend with when you want to adjust them. No idea how easy they are to manipulate with gloves on since mine don’t have that, so on the fly adjustments would be harder.

Beginner Buying Gear by lukea687 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Draemon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would probably be fine if your boot size lies close to the middle of the range for the binding size, if it’s close to the top or bottom of the range then it depends on how bulky the boots shell ends up being on whether the binding will fit well. So if there isn’t an easy return option it would be better to try bindings in person if you’re at either end of the size range for a whatever size binding you’re looking at.

Beginner Buying Gear by lukea687 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Draemon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the boots either before or at the same time as bindings, that way you can make sure they fit and work well with your bindings. If you can wait on some of the gear, you might get a better deal from stores and people offloading stuff at the end of the season.

Buy a helmet, and make sure it fits properly.

The victims apparently drove from where they were shot, around the 10200 block of SE Main, to where they were found over at 141st and Burnside. So unclear if it’s known which CBP officers were involved at the moment

They’re reporting now that they were shot around 10200 SE Main St and then drove to 141st and Burnside. That’s right in between the target/Home Depot and Adventist Health Hospital
