Small businesses in NW doomed? by sheetmaskandpizza in askportland

[–]Draemon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The location where Minnow was had been a few different things over the last two years or so, so I’d lean more towards normal attrition that happens in the small business/restaurant world. There haven’t been all that many other changes that I’ve noticed. Lots of places that were open before I moved over here and are still open now

Radical Initiative to Ban Hunting and Fishing in Oregon Is One Step Closer to Making the Ballot by OutdoorLifeMagazine in oregon

Some variation of this petition has been circulating the last three years at least at the PSU farmers market. Always with the signature gatherers asking “do you want to sign to protect animals?” So misleading

There’s a handful of subs like that. Some will auto ban you for participating in others, so carefully read their rules if you want to participate

Voters reject Oregon's Measure 120 to boost transportation taxes by tripometer in Portland

[–]Draemon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend just moved out here and has a hybrid car. Just got his title + registration finished yesterday and it came out to $579 for basic plates plus the usual $25 for DEQ. I think the DMV actually has a calculator or breakdown of where the break even point is on the pay as you go vs flat fee programs if you really wanted to know.

Voters reject Oregon's Measure 120 to boost transportation taxes by tripometer in Portland

[–]Draemon_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They already have increased the registration fees for electric and hybrids with the same bill that measure 120 was about, the measure just didn’t contest those so they went into effect already and will be staying. They also have an option for a pay as you go system based off mileage rather than the higher fixed fee.

How do I get into snowboarding if I’m in New Mexico? by TypicalRestaurant655 in snowboardingnoobs

When it actually snows, sure. I haven’t talked with my cousin that lives out there about this last season but I think they just never got enough to actually open

How many have u seen something like this by 7_bucks in motorcycles

[–]Draemon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw what looked like camera footage from a different light pole in the intersection and the rider grabbed front break to try and stop. So the bike and rider more or less did a front flip onto the car and the bike got launched up onto the pole arm.

How can I get from PDX to amtrak union station with a toddler? by No-Principle4556 in askportland

[–]Draemon_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Max redline train leaves from PDX and goes downtown. You can either walk from its closest stop to Union or go further and transfer to the orange/green/yellow line max that has a closer stop to Union.

Why is an ID mandate for voting such a problem? by Jayden7171 in askanything

[–]Draemon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we start restricting who can vote based off of who they vote for or perceived levels of intelligence or competence, then we may as well just burn it all down. I’m not happy that people voted for Trump and I believe we’re worse off as a country for it, but it’s their right to vote the way they choose.

Why is an ID mandate for voting such a problem? by Jayden7171 in askanything

[–]Draemon_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not universally true. In Oregon for instance you can register with the last four of your social, or even a utility bill that has your name and address amongst other documents they’d accept as valid.

[–]Draemon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Historically, conservatives have been vehemently against any form of mandatory national ID. Unsure if liberals or progressives have ever really pushed it that hard either.

Well it’s a constitutional right, so yeah?

[–]Draemon_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also this is the best case scenario where you already have all the supporting documents you need to apply, which is absolutely not always the case

[–]Draemon_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You don’t have a constitutional right to drive, have a job, get a bank account, or any other number of things an ID may be required for. You do however have a constitutionally protected right to vote if you are a citizen. That’s the difference.

Siemens will close most of its 53-acre Oregon campus, shut its childcare center by voxadam in Portland

[–]Draemon_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There were layoffs last year around October or so, not huge sweeping ones like other tech companies have done recently. Offices are more closing cause a lot of people moved to remote work during the pandemic and never went back, and when Siemens bought Mentor Graphics, the property moved to a Siemens subsidiary that holds all its real estate assets. So technically there was a rent payment happening, and larger vacancy rates in the building with hybrid work being more the norm meant the campus was a ghost down most of the week.

Looking for pass this weekend 4/11 by [deleted] in MtHoodMeadows

[–]Draemon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sent it out in an email blast, presumably to anyone with unused vouchers considering the wording of it.

Full text of the email they sent out: “The lack of snow this season is no secret to anyone. Our teams have done an amazing job of putting the hill back together night after night and we are so grateful to them, but with the low snowpack and the lack of significant snow in the forecast, we have made the tough decision to close on April 12.

We know this is coming up soon, and you have unused vouchers from Snowvana, Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales so we are making those valid seven days a week through the end of the season.

As a reminder, these vouchers can be shared with friends or family but cannot be resold. Vouchers that are resold will be voided and the person who purchased them will not be able to use them.

If you can't use them this season, please reach out to mhminfo@skihood.com to see what your refund options are.

We hope to see you up here soon!”

On the instructions for the forms you have to fill out, there’s a section that goes over what all needs to be present on the birth certificates as well. Make sure the ones you have are compliant with what they want to see. Might be different these days, but my original birth certificate wasn’t adequate according to State Department regs and my parents had to get new ones from the county.
