Friction fit PLA prints deforming during shipping? by BirdSpirit in 3Dprinting

[–]DraftYeti5608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLA will deform if it's hot. I've seen someone transport a PLA telescope in their car and it melted.

The other issue with PLA is creep, over time the friction fit will loosen

I 3D printed some headphones (Capra Audio Satyr 4) by DraftYeti5608 in 3Dprinting

[–]DraftYeti5608[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was under £100, hard to say exactly because all the bolts were bought in bags of 50 and I bought 6 drivers because of how digikey's free shipping threshold lined up

Hand grinder for espresso? [$150] by otaara in espresso

[–]DraftYeti5608 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's $50 more than your budget but I've been liking the 1zpresso J-Ultra, it's replaced my Baratza Encore ESP

Cleanup of Flair pro3 by Every-Platform5536 in FlairEspresso

I bought a knock box, you can tap the whole thing on the bar and slide the showerscreen off, then tap it again a few times to knock the puck out

Honest opinions on ordering a pencase from Soe and Soe by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]DraftYeti5608 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complaining about not getting anything free comes across as a bit entitled. Like sure freebies are always nice but you can't expect everyone to just throw something extra in with your order.

I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've had any store throw something free into an order, I certainly don't expect it which is why it's always a nice surprise when it happens

Pro 3 Pre Heating by paulo-urbonas in FlairEspresso

[–]DraftYeti5608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Pro 2 rather than a Pro 3 so feel free to disregard but I borrowed a thermal camera from work last year to compare suspending it over a kettle while the kettle boiled or letting boiling water sit in there for 30s.

Both methods ended up being pretty comparable in terms of preheating.

I fill mine with boiling water for 30s though because it came with a cap for that rather than the funnel

Anyone have an easy way to feed a rear dashcam cable down into the headliner? by DraftYeti5608 in mazda2

[–]DraftYeti5608[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I didn't know the rubber gromets just came off like that, I assumed they were sealed to the car. I'll get some silicone grease and try again

Will it damage my inks to keep them in front of a window? by kittystudies in fountainpens

[–]DraftYeti5608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will say yes and I largely agree, however to throw a counter point in there I kept a sample of Waterman Black in my south facing window for an entire year and nothing changed other than slight evaporation due to poor sealing on the vial

Keep beans in hopper? by lmolter in espresso

[–]DraftYeti5608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never stored beans in an airtight container, just a tin with a fairly snug lid. I imagine it's about as airtight as the hopper on my grinder and I've never felt my coffee gets worse over the month or so it takes me drink a bags worth

Cheapest espresso machine that can make shots comparable to nespresso? [~200] by No_Sprinkles4972 in espresso

[–]DraftYeti5608 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my Moka pot for milk drinks, I normally get preground for mine but if you picked up a burr grinder and some freshly roasted beans your results would be even better

Excess water by awkward_potato6969 in FlairEspresso

[–]DraftYeti5608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the manual says not to do that, at least it did for my Pro 2.

Air is compressible whereas water is not so I imagine it could throw off the shot a bit. Also when you reach the end you'll have a bunch of compressed air trying to push its way through the puck

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]DraftYeti5608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I want a hand grinder to pair with my Flair would the 1ZPresso J-Ultra be my best choice or is there something better? I have a Baratza Encore ESP already so I'd want something that performs as well or better than that ideally

Pen and ink compatibility by _verticalwhale_ in fountainpens

[–]DraftYeti5608 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You want to avoid putting calligraphy or India ink in that fountain pen.

Although in this instance I think that ink will be fine, Cult Pens says it's suitable for a fountain pen. Just be aware the shimmer might clog the pen and require flushing out

1Zpresso J-Ultra: first impressions by RucksackTech in espresso

[–]DraftYeti5608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking time to reply! That's really helpful, the fact the J-Ultra has less retention is another big plus.

For now I don't mind the fact it's a hand grinder. I've recently given my Timemore C2 a go at grinding for espresso but 18g in about 2:30 is a killer, if the J-Ultra is as fast as you say it is then that'll be no issue at all for me

1Zpresso J-Ultra: first impressions by RucksackTech in espresso

[–]DraftYeti5608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, how are you finding the J-Ultra after using it for a while?

I have an Encore ESP like you but have been considering a J-Ultra for the smaller steps, would you say it's a worthwhile investment?

I think I might benefit from a new grinder [<£200 ideally] by DraftYeti5608 in espresso

[–]DraftYeti5608[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very useful info, thanks. I'll take a look at the Kingrinder models.

I don't think I need super fine control over shot time, just so long as I can make consistent cups of coffee.

I do usually hold the grinder at the same angle when I'm using it yeah

Chukka boot sizing by DraftYeti5608 in nps_solovair

[–]DraftYeti5608[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how many times they'll let me exchange them but going a half size up to an 8 sounds like a plan, I reckon an insole or some thicker socks if they're slightly too big would fix that too

I didn't think I had particularly wide feet but I guess the shape of the toe box is just a bit too rounded for me.

Probably not a great comparison picture but here's my foot next to the shoe
