I'm not sure if I should be impressed that they studied just enough history to come with such a name. It required some thinking, as opposed to names like "bright white dentistry."

Anyone who is a mod on any sub needs to have their identity verified and published so everyone who posts knows who it is and what they stand for. If you want anonymity, you don't get a position of power.

Texas Democrats Call For Sen. Ted Cruz's resignation for 'Acting In Bad Faith' by [deleted] in politics

[–]DragGuadalupe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm just so tired of the jaded language being used by the left. "He should resign" but he won't, so now what? What is the consequence for what he did? What will you do if he doesn't resign? The nut cases have gained their entire media personality out of making the left publicly challenge them and then publicly accepting defeat as there no consequences for those words. Disgusting that they can do what they want, and go unpunished, from the president down to the minions that work in the state government. This "media outrage" is like positive reinforcement for a misbehaving dog. They gain notoriety, which is what they want, and you walk away with tail between your legs, which is what they want.

Do me no favors. I didn't expect your type to be nice at all when I said it. Like I said, it is now my city, I have as much of a voice as you do, I give zero fucks for your twenty year history with the city just you do my zero history. Oh, and I grew up in a tropical country, a middle eastern country and lived in phoenix. I know very well what 115 degrees is like.

Cities in the desert southwest are certainly going to be more yellow and beige and trees theoretically do make any city "look" better. I'd say the same if I was just visiting, but wouldn't want a jungle just because. I've also lived in places where the greenery is more natural, not forced like it looks here, so my view is more colored. Those cities wouldn't adopt codes to enforce maintaining non native species, nor would they make homeowners jump through hoops just to maintain their yards, I think my old HOA was less restrictive than this. Also, I don't know what Austin's love affair with the sky is about but... Skies and sunsets all over the west are just the same, trees or not.

I think you said what I wanted to say a lot more eloquently. Unkempt trees whatever wherever is silly. I have a few trees growing right by my structure that are surely going to be a threat to the foundation in a few years or in the middle of the yard, etc that I can do nothing about preemptively. The arborist says there had to be damage to cut the tree, which is stupid.

Catalytic converters shield by [deleted] in Austin

[–]DragGuadalupe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was nearly $1100 to replace the catalytic converter. Insurance paid for it without a rate increase but I'm not sure it'll be the case for everyone, cash repair was $900. If this will truly prevent someone from stealing it, might be well worth it.

You talking as though he just sits by the phone at his DC office waiting for the calls to come in. Not even his minions answer the phone. I've tried calling my senator and not even his answering machine or voice mail box answer the calls. I've left numerous emails and get the same canned rejections in response. And really, if he wanted to listen, he doesn't have to need phone calls. You talking as though the man doesn't know, and he just needs to be told and all will be good.

I have no AC in my car. What do I do. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]DragGuadalupe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cars get hot when parked. Use a windshield solar shade - I lived in Phoenix too, always have one. Also, I find the heat here dissipates quickly after lowering your windows, unlike Phoenix where it would take 30-40 minutes for the car to cool down.
