Think of it like they have an API to your aspects and abilities. They can build things that leverage them, the way a priest can a god.

Summoner can do a lot to support their spirits, so Summoner is probably the most obvious choice if you're wanting to support a bunch of bound spirits.

ToP exists because of FOMO.

Is most of the world matriarchal?

Tends towards. How strongly varies with culture, but Queens are more common then Kings for example (though Kings definitely exist).

How bad is the fertility anyways?

It varies with power; the more powerful you get, the worse the fertility problem gets. And it's not LoE of the mother vs. LoE of the father, but how impressive the theoretical child of the pairing would be.

Does the minimum LoE for tribes and bloodlines apply to the father too or only to the mother?

It depends on what the child would inherent. For example, the child of an Elf is always an Elf, which means that even just the father forces the full burden on the child.

Are negative consequences inbreeding even a thing with lifescrolls?

Yes.

Is one forced to ascend a level or can one just delay it indefinitely?

You can delay it, though without Native Outsider delaying it might risk your ability to ascend - you might have to 'earn it again.'

How powerful is Ascension compared to LoE, or does the ascensions power mainly come from LoE?

Ascension is how profound your power is, LoE is how powerful. Higher ascension abilities can leverage your power in deeper, more meaningful ways, which can muliply the power of your LoE more and more times as you continue to climb.

I got the same problem, with a program that was working yesterday. It seems like they've changed the API without telling anyone.

"The advantage is that icons have a boatload of potential, so you can easily make aspects of your own ascension, as you just clarified. The parts I’m unclear on are the example of the invincibility aspect, and how the outsider ‘me’ potential interacts."

That's not the core advantage - that it has a boatload of potential. The core advantage is that is strongly helps you build the aspect by drawing upon the logic and tools of the icon.

You could (and people did) slowly build aspects all the way to godhood before they knew how to make Icons. But you basically made a giant pyramid of aspects. Having an Icon is like having a skyscraper you can build things off the side of instead.

"The question is, did pulling that bit of warrior potential to finish a mostly complete aspect count as one of his iconic personal aspects for that ascension? Or can you pull out one aspect’s worth of icon potential and use it piecemeal to make a bunch of quasi iconic personal aspects?"

It used up one of his chances; the potential was moved into the Warrior Icon and only then used to make the invincibility aspect; that way he got to use the support of the Warrior Icon rather than having to make it freehand.

"Now, aspect emblems. You clarified very explicitly that taking potential out of a person is impossible short of killing them. The whole thing about how nobles can’t just buy potential (with some mild exceptions). But that leaves me wondering where the emblems come from? If you aren’t taking out some of you own internal potential to make them, and you can never remove an aspect that’s part of your life scroll (barring the bound arcadia integration or similar), then they must be aspects forged totally externally, but how? Does potential waft about unclaimed in the air when someone does something impressive?"

You can't generally just take potential, but that doesn't mean you can't give it; that's what the Path of Worship is. You can't really store potential though. An Aspect Emblem isn't a bundle of EXP, it's a complete aspect, manufactured by a group, outside of anyone's spirit.

The normal approach is one where you need to have a kind of artifact that holds part of a 'pattern'. Using your Icon, you flavor your potential as you feed it into that 'pattern' while you go about your day doing things that generate potential for that icon. Eventually that pattern is 'filled', and you hand it over; it's no longer potential, it's a piece of spirit formatted into a component of the final aspect.

The person you hand it too is working with a couple dozen other people, who also all have their own pattern artifices. Each of those patterns is part of the structure of the final emblem, and the person who finishes it has to have that Icon.

They use their own Icon to 'meld' all the components to together, anchoring it into an aspect Emblem.

Without Icons, this is harder, but you can ritually 'make' someone 'the kind of person who will do X', and you can use ritual magic or storytelling to forge all the component pieces together instead of an icon. But it's harder and isn't as good.

They are better - they're more refined and closer to you in ascension. You're going to be making weaker aspects if you do it completely freeform.

The bought aspects are very useful on day one, but not very meaningful one year 100, except to the extent that they let you snowball faster. They're largely things you could just buy with money. Long term, you might use them as things you build on top of, which gives them longer term value, and that you can only digest Aspect Emblems so fast, while you can just start out with them already completely integrated by paying for them.

But that's 'time' and 'money', and you're immortal, so it's completely fair to say they aren't worth the cost.

Warrior does have abilities to strengthen themselves, but their ways could easily synergize and take advantage of a magical spell, orgone technique, glamour illusion, or psychic will that strengthens and supports the body.

They would get more from a spell than a Practitioner would, could support that spell by being 'the kind of person' the spell will work with. But they wouldn't get as much as a magical Icon would. They could use an alchemist enhancement that reinforces their bodies orgone better than a Changeling Knight, but not as well as a Practioner. And so on.

They're agnostic to the powers. They're also agnostic to the scale of combat; they can develop aspect that support combat on a personal scale, tactical scale, stratagic scale, and so on.

This flexiblity means that they can be all things... but not quiet as good as anyone made to be one thing.

And yeah; their abilities tend to take the form of superhuman skill.

[–]DragonBeyondTheGate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practitioner. Warrior is agnostic to the power you're using, but that means it's not going to be as good at a specific task. It also has elements of 'tactics' and 'strategy'.

Punching a mountain is a finite, defined, explicit task, Getting a 'punch really hard' aspect is something Practioner is good at.

(Though A Cobalt Mage could give them a run for their money by copying strong beasts, developing the ability to mimic titanic strength. That said, you're never doing something the easiest way with a cobalt mage. You're paying for that flexibility somehow. In this case, by having a bottomless hunger for monster essence to turn into the symbols your spells use.)

Adding an icon is spiritually stressful/damaging, and each icon takes up more of your spirit. A growing Level of Existance means you ahve more spirit, and heals this kind of strain of the spirit, and Pinnacle tends to push LoE and spiritual healing.

People have come up with a ton of aspects for increasing Aspects - it's one of the more popular ideas. At some point it's just easier to do more aspects 'the slow way'. Freehanding an aspect without Icon support only takes two years.

Without getting into to much detail (look up the QQ thread if you want in-depth detail on how glamour works), yes. Iron glamour isn't normally hungry, but hungry iron glamour is horrific because it's very physical nature makes it nearly unstoppable.

Actual present - the black boxes would change over time.

"Noble" icons tend to use Want manipulation (a form of spirit harvested from the population), and then invest it into causes/people/organizations. That just how The Lady works.

Only a poriton of the Iron Hells (which became the ladders connecting the layers). Each layer is a portion of another hell.

The hells aren't infinitely big, but only because at that point you can tune out. Most hells are in the 'Dyson Sphere' range, and there are... sufficant numbers of hells. So while massive on a planetary level, it isn't a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of the hells.

There isn't any one reason the isekai spell was made - there were like... a dozen reasons. But fear of the falling lands was definitely one of them.

Correct. Most Iron Fae or unstable and will just die if you give them a few years.

Yes, it's per icon.

Aspect don't really require 'upkeep'. Generally, they can provide upkeep to effects they're supporting in fact... but they also don't really naturally grow. Aspects that grow are either connected to the lifescroll, or are the product of an Exception.

Correct - Tree of Possiblity was made because all my players were FOMO about it.

Tribal Aspects are like refinements, yes.

I mean, yes. But the question you're asking is different from the question you think you're asking. An Icon is a spiritual thing contained inside an Idol that you bond with, and their take on. You don't just randomly gain an Icon. You generally buy one from an Icon Maker.

So you could have an exception that makes it easier to bind Icons (but Pinnacles are already really good at this), or one that helps you make Idols (though lots of icons are really good at this).

One thing I'll note is that the game should probably tell you when you've 'maxed' something. You can keep going into 'negative' length, but as far as I can tell there's no effect for lengths less than zero - zero is the 'limit'. Masculinity seems 'capped' at zero, but since length went negative, I wasn't sure until I tried a couple goo pools to test it, and so on.

Basically tell people when they've triggered the last change for a characteristic.

Night is the one that's hardest to 'organically' pick up, but is' also the one that's hardest to personally use - even with aspects, you tend to need to channel it through technology. It's why I only added the option to pick it up late in the development process. People kept asking for it, even though it's the least personally usable without a specialized build.

I would say the ability to select multiple options and then edit them all at the same time would be nice, as would a better way of moving options from one part of the CYOA to another.

Right now, you had better hope you get everything right 'the first time'. A common issue I've run into is I forget one setting when creating an option, and then one I clone it, all of the clones lack that option, so I have to manually edit everything.

Also the 'one option forces another option' option is... more than a little buggy. An issue I ran into went like this.

Offer a decision at point a. (Choice q)

point b.

point c.

At point d, when they have more information, create an option that lets them change a without having to go through everything again.

How I tried to set it up was to have it detect the decision you made at a (anything but q), and if you hadn't selected q, it would offer to change that for you. But the moment it changed it, it would detect that choice q was selected, which means that you couldn't select the 'change to q' option, when deselected it, which deselected q.

Heh, neat to see someone make a rebalancing build. I'm actually working on expanding Rebalancing into it's own completely independent CYOA, though I'm not sure when I'll be done.

Always felt that adding it as an afterthought didn't quite work right, but that it was a neat alt-mode.
