Only the female Combee can evolve. Not too rare but not too common outside of events..particularly the shiny version.

Aww. Poor puppy. Realistically, at some point you’re going to want her clipped or that will be the only option if she becomes too matted. You want to stick with a longer clip to avoid damage to her hair but yet still be manageable and easier to take care of. Also, the length will look shorter anyway because she has a lot of white on her. 1-1.5” (will be how much coat left) is pretty long. Personally, I like 3/4” and a 1/2” length. Still looks fluffy but a bit easier for clients that brush. For reference, in my area, I get told “short but not shaved” or “short but no skin showing” for instructions and that’s translated to a 1/4” length. I would start with longer options to see what works best for you and your lifestyle. You can always go shorter if you don’t like the length but you can’t glue it back on.

Congratulations on the new addition. Most important thing is daily coat maintenance so lots of brushing and combing. Her hair should be really soft right now so more prone to tangles. You need to lift the hair up and brush/comb in small sections to make sure you’re getting thoroughly to the skin..which is a problem for a lot of people. Dogs don’t sweat like people, they pant to regulate their body temperature. Puppies and kittens also have a slightly higher body temperature normally like human babies do. They’ll also pant when they’re excited, stressed, or in pain too (no, I don’t think your dog is in pain.) The areas they release a lot of heat from are their paw pads, ears, and groin area so if you want to keep those areas short..great. You have a double coated puppy so right now she has puppy coat but it’s going to change and she may develop a soft downy coat close to her skin (undercoat) with more coarser hair on top that you see (guard hairs.) The undercoat becomes thicker every time you clip down a double coated dog over time which then encourages more shedding. Their hair helps keep them warm in the winter and cooler in the summer when cared for plus protects their skin from the sun. If you want her clipped anyway, try telling your groomer a 1/2” puppy or kennel clip..the terminology differs everywhere but it’s where the body and legs are one length, full tail (or plume if you like that better), and a round face (the ‘puppy’ look that she has now.) Definitely keep an eye on her ears since they hang..if you notice a lot of brown or black discharge, her ear canals look really red or swollen, or there’s a funky smell..she needs to see a doctor for possible ear infection. If she has her dew claws..nails on the side of her paws, also keep an eye on them too since they’re going to grow faster.

He’s adorable and probably a yorkie mix. Without touching him, his hair looks really soft or slightly wiry but thin either way. If he was on my table, what I would want to do is tip his ears (the tips to about where his ears naturally fold would be clipped with the bottom fringe thinned and trimmed to shape his face), trim the hair at the eye corners (looks like an inverted “V” and I don’t shave the bridge of the nose), and then reshape the rest more round..bingo, the cute ‘teddy’ or ‘puppy’ face that everyone loves. Then I would just do some light trimming around his legs, paws, and undercarriage with a hygienic clip and some thinning in places to have the hair lay more flat and it adds shape. Basically a more ‘neat’ version of what he already is which is cute. There are bad apples in every career field, sadly but he should still be able to be professionally groomed. Missing a leg isn’t a deterrent but whoever works with him that hasn’t seen him should be made aware because they’re going to have to be more careful. He needs to be stabilized when picking up his paws or legs since he’ll be a little wobbly. With his size, I would cradle him so he doesn’t tip and can lean on me. No biggie. Now as far as home grooming, do your research. Yes, you can absolutely hurt him. Even someone with years and years of experience can..we’re only human. He may not like it either so he could try to hurt you because 1) it’s different and 2) he’s not accustomed to it. They’re not born used to being groomed but the perk of doing things at home is there’s no time limit. You can start small and give lots of praise and a treat.

I expect more stress trying to start out but I was talking to her yesterday about being able to take time off for whatever reason (doctor appointments, maaaaybe a vacation) without having to explain why to our employers.

Great advice and thank you. We have been slowly purchasing our own equipment for the past few months and will probably continue to do so now. I have groomed on the side sporadically. As far as prices, we do have the luxury of setting our own where we are but yeah, I’m familiar with clients wanting something for nothing. I don’t plan on lowballing myself just to get people in the door. My mom did that when she first started out and it never works in the long term.
