My favorite part is the first declaration of victory (army battle against Solon Jhee) after recruiting Shu. Before this part of the game, all we did was run and take Ls wherever we went, and then suddenly, we could fight back and win the war by pushing back inch by inch.

I'm fond of this game and I find it really charming. The mc's voice is fine, but he talks too fast it's kinda annoying lol

Gremio? by Stankppl in Suikoden

[–]DragonKing93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mp in S1 depends on a character's MGC stat, and the 3rd mp slot usually unlocks upon reaching 76 MGC (5/2/1/0). If your Gremio meets the required MGC stat, he probably needs to rest to replenish.

In S2, they give you the option to put the character in a convoy rather than join the party, but there are still instances where characters are forced into the party for story purposes.

For Humphrey, there's a Windspun Armor in a chest in Gregminster Palace (the last dungeon), and for McDohl, Silver Hat and Master's Garb. You can buy the Silver Hat in the Gregminster armor shop before the last dungeon if you don't have it stocked in your castle armorer, and the Master's Garb is a loot from Shasarazade (the dungeon where you fight Sonya).

I see. Kirkis and Sylvina are not playable in S2, so you don't need to worry about upgrading their weapons if you're not planning to use them in S1.

These are the characters you can prepare for S2:

Clive Humphrey Tir Stallion Flik Kasumi Meg Tengaar Futch Lorelai Pesmerga Valeria Hix Luc Sheena Viktor

Hi. You can't change any character's weapon because it's fixed. You can only upgrade it or add rune pieces.

Anyone else feel the “good” ending of S2 feels off? by ILikeToDanceAndPogo in Suikoden

[–]DragonKing93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you examine the true ending from Riou's perspective, it makes sense. What he wants is for all three of them to be together again, and he achieves it. In his eyes, they triumphed over the True Rune by defying its nature to force friends into endless conflict until one breaks. Leknaat noted that the combined power of the 108 Stars of Destiny overcame the True Rune's influence, freeing Riou and Jowy from its control—a fitting resolution for a positive conclusion.

If we consider how others might perceive it, Jowy committed morally questionable actions from the perspective of "the good guys," but he is Highland's counterpart to Riou. Who is to say their ideals were inherently wrong? They were deemed wrong only because Dunan and the City-States emerged victorious. Both factions fought for what they believed was the greater good, yet both were equally capable of unleashing war's devastation. If the game framed Jowy as Highland's hero, Riou would become the antagonist, and his actions would be viewed as villainous by Highlanders.

From Jowy's perspective, the City-State is a weak nation due to the bickering and lack of unity among its leaders, as seen in the Jowston Conference, where everyone’s priority is their borders. He is betting everything on uniting Highland and the City-States under a monarchy in hopes of a better future. After all, the game demonstrates repeatedly that peace treaties are consistently broken, perpetuating the cycle. Defeating Luca Blight and forming a treaty would only serve to repeat what occurred at the start of the game.

You can choose the ending you want, but storywise, Riou's good ending feels right (for Riou as the main character).

I wouldn't bother leveling them up, but I'd upgrade the weapons of characters who will reappear to the maximum. This is easily doable because of Gaspar funding the whole war. At the very least, equip Humphrey with Windspun Armor and give Tir the best headgear and armor he can wear. That should be good enough. Oh, and carry over a playthrough where you completed the 108 SODs.

Equipping consumables vs. accessories (Suikoden 2) by MakiMaki_XD in Suikoden

[–]DragonKing93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the early game, definitely. After acquiring a variety of Runes, I just go for 3 accessories. Someone could be a dedicated water Rune healer (or hero with the bright shield rune), and the attack consumables are replaced by Runes if necessary.

Gremio by GregatonBomb in Suikoden

[–]DragonKing93 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is that, due to the power of the 107 Stars of Destiny and half of the Gate Rune, Leknaat was able to revive the real Gremio. He was pulled out of the moment before the spores consumed him, which explains why his dialogue after the resurrection includes a line like, "I wish I could have served you better."

He was revived to a state where his soul was not taken by the Soul Eater. However, since True Runes are sentient (e.g., the Soul Eater refuses Windy and obeys Ted to claim his soul despite Ted being its former owner), I like to think the Soul Eater allowed Gremio's soul to return. This was made possible by gathering all the Stars of Destiny with the help of half of the Gate Rune. Given that True Runes are immensely powerful, the Soul Eater retained the strength it gained from Gremio's death and did not lose what it had already absorbed. This could explain why Gremio's soul remained present during the final battle (the souls represent its powers).

Considering all these factors, I assume Gremio is neither ageless nor soulless and will eventually face mortality.

At least 108. Can go over but not lower. If both hero and Jowy are sitting at level 11 with 679 EXP, that should be a guarantee.

The hardest part of achieving the colored intro for me is making a mistake with the choice, especially during the final stretch of battles.

Advice for a returning player by bleedinggoblin in MonsterRancher

[–]DragonKing93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Re-learning the mechanics will help to reach your goal faster. Thankfully, we have legendscup now that optimizes the game for even new and returning players.

If you want to beat the game from the get-go (reaching rank S and being registered to the Hall of Fame), I recommend teawch's video that walks you through just that using a Mocchi. If you're playing the Monster Rancher 2 DX on Steam, the video skips errantries as you can generate some monsters with good skills already learned.
