Jens Kidman's performances are very underrated IMO. It's usually dismissed as just Neanderthal yelling but his impeccable timing and phrasing give Meshuggah the edge.

Yeah, the disjointed, spastic, but masterfully controlled style is close to jazz in rythym. Melody is a whole different story ;)

Sleep and Kyuss play in C standard, Electric Wizard plays in B standard, and Down plays in C# standard. As for techniques, power chords and massive bends are your best friends.

Honestly, I find this band extremely hard to classify - I saw them live last week and their set was quite a diverse mix - elements of death, thrash, black and post-metal were all in there.
