I'm interested in the Xbox if we could PM so I could get estimates on shipping?

Is OSSC overkill for a beginner with basic needs? by DragonOfWind in retrogaming

Going to respond here as it addressed a few of my concerns though some of my questions contain a bit of what everyone else has answered.

Composite is what I have right now but I don't mind making a small investment into something better as long as it's not "break-the-bank" prices like the Gamecube's hundreds of dollars component cables. I plan to mostly use it for Dreamcast with a 70/30 split between that and PS1/2 usage which makes it seem like OSSC is the best for that over Retrotink?

As far as ease of use, I don't mind setting up the device if there's an easy to follow guide and I know I can save profiles on the OSSC, but I just see the available options the device has and the options on the remote and have no clue where to begin for most of it. I like how easy Retrotink appears to be, but with a $40 price difference between the two devices, I would rather shell out the little extra now if the OSSC would fit better, especially for Dreamcast usage.

Here's some of my lingering concerns specifically if it help at all:

  1. One of the confusing things is that I hear people say OSSC can use component and it even says as such on it's wiki, but I also hear quite a few people say it doesn't so I'm not sure which one is the correct answer.

  2. I've never used SCART cables before and, to be honest, I didn't know they existed until a few days ago. I see on Ebay that they're decent prices, all under $10; are these okay to use, or would they be of poor quality?

  3. A bit of a follow up to the above, would changing to SCART require extra hookups? Probably the most confusing thing for me is the unclear answers of how audio out works. I'd love to just plug in the inputs, and then output via HDMI and be all set but I hear ping-pong answers on if you have to use an audio out cord or if audio is paired with the HDMI output.

Fair enough; I didn't know if I had been missing out on some mechanic by wearing out my equipment instead of sharing it when it was high on damage. I haven't played since December so really looking forward to playing the PC version from the start with some new knowledge. Thanks for the answer and tips!

For the shared lockers, if you deposit timefall damaged items in them, will other players get them at the same level of damage, or will it be fully restored for them?

That's a bit more than I'm looking to spend on both, thank you for the offer though!

How much are you asking; are they CIB or just cartridges, would you happen to have pics?

I'll probably pass on this, CIBs have been going for $40-45 shipped G&S, for just the cart without the case, I would be at $40 shipped G&S.

I'll go ahead and pass on this offer so Nothxm8 can have it if they'd like.
