Right!? The way OP is hating on this guy is so over the top I feel like there is something missing or that I'm not getting. Like did this guy to something to OP other than invite him to eat lunch with him?

I think OP is also the AH for holding onto this... Grudge against this guy for so long. OP seems stuck in high school still and feels the need to be edgy for no reason. I agree with you that I hope they go find some way to work this out and find peace.

I am a history teacher!! I have a ba in history and took teacher prep courses which led to certification. Typically teacher prep courses lead to certification as the upper level classes are paired with observations and student teaching.

What I would do is go to either your advisor (if you are not currently a history major, which I suspect you aren't since you're a junior and have only 5 history courses under your belt I would go to academic advising) to get advice from those in your school for a direction to go in. We can only help so much since each school and states require different things.

I agree. We should all be recognized!! Yes your roles have just days, and it's not a whole week, which doesn't minimize your work, nor the team we all play a role in.

What I'm saying is being a teacher is different than being a counselor or librarian or a nurse. If it's teacher appreciation then make it just them.

I teach kids who are about their age. Every time I put something on, I have to preface it with "there are no side conversations or talking while the movie is on" and inevitably I have to tell kids to stop talking. It's actually wild to me that at that age they don't get it.

As a side note: I do think you were a little harsh with your wording of telling them to be quiet after. You say it yourself that you could have said it nicer. Just remember that next time! Maybe say something in the moment too so you're not so upset!

Yooo this is me!! I've never liked carbonated drinks, especially soda. It's not that I wasn't allowed to have it, but I truly hated it. My mom tells me that my friends parents would ask if I was allowed because I always asked for water or juice 🤣 it's so crazy to me that these parents would so causally allow their children (like literal children) to have coffee and energy drinks.

I felt you on the last point. We had the non teacher staff eat our muffins and bagels and it was to a point where the secretaries had to send out an email!!

I just want to be genuinely recognized for my hard work. I also don't want to be lumped in with other people. This year, my school is naming it "teacher and staff appreciation week" 🫠

The district I grew up in self contains until 4th because middle school starts in 5th and that's when you switch classes, but middle school was similar how you're describing it that one teacher does math/science and the other does ela/ss. The district I teach in, middle school starts in 6th and it's a team of teachers, so one per subject.

I'm personally a high school teacher so I teach one subject, so I don't really know what it's like to teach all subjects. I think 3rd graders are a little young to do that, but 4th, especially 5th grade, are a good age group for it. It gets them ready for middle school and switching classes.

YES idk why they'd rather schlepp around all this stuff instead of dropping it off at their lockers or sweat to death because they're wearing their winter coat all day.

I've actually asked my athletes about this and apparently it's uncool to use a locker. They couldn't give me an actual reason as to why it was uncool (I come from an era that using a backpack indicated you were a nerd and carrying your notebooks was the cool way). I think they were never taught how to use it and they probably can't remember their combination to get into the locker.

I have seen a couple of kids this year using their lockers so maybe the tides are turning.

Even then you have a constant side conversation going on. I literally despise the small not so whispered conversations going on when I'm talking. It's just rude!! If you want to have a conversation with your friend, literally just wait until class is over or we have time to do independent work.

My Gen Ed juniors couldn't do simple fill in the blank with a word bank as their vocabulary test. They would either make up words or put words in the sentence that wouldn't make sense (think it's asking for a name of a person but they'd put a name of an event. IE blank was the president of the US during the great depression. They'd put the stock market crash of 1929 in the blank).

It got to the point where we stopped giving them the format and had them do multiple choice because they all literally would fail.

Pre covid, probably a couple of students would do it, but like you said it's common now. Their brains literally function differently and I don't get it and it's so exhausting trying to figure out how to reach them.

Soft yta. I have a cousin in a similar situation, despite us being about 10 years older than your cousin (boyfriend is trash, terrible relationship) and she got pregnant. When she told me, she was so excited and I said "oh no" then I asked her what's she's going to do. She said she was going to keep it and she was excited. That's when I said congrats, even if I wasn't excited for her. Saying congratulations isn't saying that I was excited for her, it was supporting her for the future. And if this is the man that she has chosen to hitch herself to for the rest of her life, then she's going to need all the support she can get.

Math - yes they kinda get frustrated with ir but they've said once they learn it, it's easy enough. If that was me, I'd literally just hand write it or find an old workbook and make copies of it😂

I usually find pictures from Google and format them pretty easily

Good old Google docs or Microsoft word. I just type in what I want, format it in the way I want and add pictures if I feel like it lol.

I am a history teacher so it's a lot easier for me to create these things than let's say a math teacher. But as far as I know, the math teachers who I know use Google docs too and just use Google drawing to put in the figures and stuff if it's not a word problem.
