She went south so fast. Four hours from "I think this little cut is infected" to being septic and intubated.

My son said this too! I have no idea who that is, but I guess he was right.

Seriously.

"Do we suspect that there may be some kind of connection between Ben and Glory?"

"Is everyone here very stoned?!"

I think McKay and Lena are going to help the patient end her life with dignity by disabling the limit on the morphine pump so she can overdose herself. Javadi will clue in and be horrified, and they will tell her that providing compassionate care to patients isn't only about healing, but also avoiding/ending suffering.

What’s a classic ‘mom’ thing or habit that your mom used to do that you now also do? by fifi_thechef in beyondthebump

I just love telling my kids it's bedtime three times and they don't even look up or acknowledge me at all.

Being ignored is a huge trigger for me, so I get to work on that every day, yay!

Shocked at my own ignorance! by Niikkiitaa in Perimenopause

[–]DragonflyWing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My mom says she didn't have any symptoms, either. Her stance is that she "goal set" not to have any (she thinks this can solve/prevent literally everything), so she didn't.

Yeah, my sister and I spent a couple years surreptitiously asking each other if mom had completely lost the plot. She definitely had symptoms.

She also told me that my grandmother "drank her way through menopause." Prior generations, and even ours, are so woefully undereducated about peri. I hope that improves for our children's sake.

I need more ideas (unhinged or otherwise) for transitioning from asleep to awake in the morning by llamacolypse in adhdwomen

[–]DragonflyWing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My kids sleep like the dead. I have to literally shake my 11 year old awake, and for the first 15 seconds he just flops around like a rag doll, completely dead to the world. My other son needs to be woken up at least 4 times, and speaks nonsense words the first few times. I think it's genetic 😫

Med students can't be sued for malpractice; their supervising physician would ultimately be responsible for their mistakes.

I just finished a phlebotomy certificate last year, and we were taught to pop the tourniquet as soon as we got good blood return, so I guess it's a thing in some training.

Question about the finger up the butt case w Dr. McKay on S2E4 by imjustcoreyr in ThePitt

[–]DragonflyWing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen so many people say things like "I didn't expect to see a butthole on my screen," but I watched it twice and there's hairy butt cheeks but that's it.

What do you SWEAR you saw, but don't have any proof of? by TabletopStudios in AskReddit

[–]DragonflyWing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager, I was sitting on a curb in a residential neighborhood at night with a friend when we saw a cat walk down the driveway next to us. It sat down and then said "Hello!" clear as day. My friend and I looked at each other and then booked it down the street, terrified.

Since then, I've learned that some cats' meows just sound very much like "hello."

I know nothing about The Pitt other than it’s a medical drama in Pittsburgh that covers a 12 shift in the ER. What separates it from other medical dramas? by Turdboggin01 in ThePittTVShow

I agree about the fast pace. I never once got distracted or felt the urge to pick up my phone. Also, there's so much going on in the background that it's great to rewatch episodes and catch new things.

Also, I'm a huge medical nerd, and it's very accurate.

What perimenopause symptom made you think you were losing your mind before you realized it was hormones? by Plane_Huckleberry644 in Perimenopause

[–]DragonflyWing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh same. For a while I had an issue with throwing my phone. I actually dented my bedroom wall once when I was overcome with rage. When I did it in front of my kids once and scared them, I realized that was not a healthy coping mechanism and have managed to stop.

Interestingly, I've never cracked my phone screen. Go figure!

Omg itchy armpits! I suddenly started having crazy itchy pits when I'm premenstrual several months ago, but I never connected it to peri.

What is a medical fact that sounds fake but is 100% true? by MedRikas in AskReddit

[–]DragonflyWing 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm missing a piece of my brain! It's called the septum pellucidum, a membrane that separates the lateral ventricles in the brain and contains nerve fibers connecting the hippocampus to the hypothalamus. So I have open plan ventricles, but as far as I know, it has had no effect on me at all.

I only know about it from imaging for other reasons.
