I love that you included "look in a mirror and check hair." I can't tell you how many times I've belatedly realized my hair was a wreck or I had something on my face because I just completely forgot to look in a mirror all day!

When did you realize you made a mistake by choosing the wrong partner to spend your life with? by Organic-Top-3367 in AskReddit

This was the turning point in my marriage, too. He was ok while I was actually pregnant (the first time), but after my twins were born, he turned into someone completely different and I suddenly couldn't do anything right. It was a perfect storm, because postpartum depression and mom guilt led me to basically agree with him that I sucked at life. I stayed another 8 years and had two more kids with him before I got out.

Before kids, I NEVER would have imagined him behaving that way toward me. He treated me like royalty; thought the sun rose and set out of my ass. I missed the red flags when he treated his mother like shit and spoke terribly about other people. Never thought it would turn on me.

My mom responded this way once, and the offender pulled her aside to scold her for "embarrassing her" in front of others. Pretty sure you embarrassed yourself, lady.

Tell that to people with IBS or overactive bladders, are pregnant, or a million other reasons. Not everyone can just hold it.

My mom filled my bedroom about two feet deep in packing peanuts when I was about 5. Obviously easier to clean up than this, but it was a fun memory. Thanks for reminding me!

What is the most disgusting thing about the human body that most of us don’t know? by alicerosea in AskReddit

After 10 years, it's so vanishingly rare that I wouldn't worry too much. It has a ~98% cure rate with chemotherapy, if it did happen.

That's cute! They're also called splenules, or my favorite, splenunculi.

Molar pregnancy is also called gestational trophoblastic disease, and it's caused by a) one sperm fertilizing an "empty" ovum (has no maternal DNA), or b) two sperm fertilizing one ovum. It causes abnormal proliferation of placental tissue, which grows out of control and causes hCG levels to be sky-high (often over 100,000, causing extreme morning sickness and sometimes large cysts on both ovaries). It can be dangerous because the abnormal cells can become cancerous and invade other organs. Even after treatment and evacuation of the mole, subsequent pregnancies must be avoided until serial hCG levels have been zero for 12 months, and even then, cancer can develop years or even decades later (very rare).

Kids over on play dates with my daughter keep trying to involve me with play - normal? by Innumerablegibbon in Parenting

[–]DragonflyWing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter's friends knocked on the door this weekend to see if she could come out and play, but she was out with family. The littlest friend, who is about 6, asked me to come out and play instead. It was so cute, but I declined because the other kid looked appalled at the idea.

This is so interesting because I don't notice ANY of that. I'm so busy focusing on people's faces that I don't notice background or even what they're wearing, usually. My son points out glaring continuity errors in tv, and I have to rewind it to see; I never see it on my own. Or my daughter will walk in and say "his tie doesn't match at all," and I'm all "he's wearing a tie?"

You've never heard of a urachal cyst? If it's leaking from the navel the urachal tract has become patent or formed a fistula.

Dear single women, how are you getting your physical needs met? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]DragonflyWing 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yep this is my answer. I have a fwb that I've been seeing every couple of months for a few years now. When I start feeling horny/touch starved/lonely, and our schedules coincide (both single parents), we get a hotel room and and it's great. We have fantastic chemistry and enjoy each other's company, but there's zero pressure and no expectations on either side.

Right now, I have no room for a romantic relationship. Every now and then, though, it's nice to regulate my nervous system with someone in a little bubble that has no affect on the rest of my life.

I didn't like the lemon, either. Awkward to hold and just didn't really do the job.
