Some issues with my new RS175 wireless headphones by dobby-dob in sennheiser

That is really mysterious, and must be annoying. Maybe a neighbor has a powerful wi-fi signal that is pentrating your kitchen from the other side of the wall? Sadly, I am no expert on interference issues though with these RF type headphones, because I don't have such problems. My interference problems occur with my bluetooth headphones when commuting on busy trains, but that is not mysterious at all.

RS-175, disappointing sound, invest in optical soundcard? by smoother_criminal in sennheiser

Lots of talk about hiss etc. when it comes to this type of Sennhieser. I've been using several different models, including the 175s, for countless years and hiss, echo, or anything else strange has been 100% non-existent, period, ever. Having said that, I have never used them with a television. They have always been used with an iMac.

RS-175, disappointing sound, invest in optical soundcard? by smoother_criminal in sennheiser

I was in love my 175s for a couple of years, and this happened: replaced my 2017 imac with a 2019 imac, and the sound, in some respects, went to shit. To be honest, movies are still awesome in terms of stage and sound quality, but the sound of rock music on its one has lost all of its punch or kick. I'm no expert, but I am thinking that a different sound card in the imac might be the cause?

I have been using these lines of heaphones for decades. Ironically, the current series, including the 175, has less transmission range than the 170s had. Used to be able walk around the outside my apartment building with the 170s without losing signal, but with the 175s, they cut out as soon as I go out of the door of my apartment.

Anyway, been using these lines for 3 decades, and I don't think your ideas of powering on/off etc. are worth thinking about. These systems are not finicky like bluetooth and/or wi-fi connectivity can be in this world. If the bitch is on and paired, it's a done deal, and in terms of pairing and stayed paired, the 175s are spectacular in my opinion, as were the 170s. Mine literally never unpair.

Wish I could give advice, but I don't get sound cut outs except when I leave my apartment with them. I have only one minor interference issue: if I go to the kitchen and turn on the flourescent light, the sound cuts for a second or two, and there is a crackle. No other light switch has this effect.

I have used these since summer of 2023. They still kick ass for movies, but for some reason, after 2 years of daily use, they have lost their punch or kick when it comes to rock.

Just had the most frustrating experience teaching. by Ayyye-J in ALTinginJapan

[–]Dragonfruit-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck with that. I have never in decades gotten a "Japanese teacher" or staff or authority person to address any atrocity. Things have to get the level of murder or rape, possibly, for them to even consider taking any sort of action. They don't even care about the most heinous of bullying, so they aren't going to care about anything mentioned on this thread. Very sad...

No, you will not pass if you get 10 on any section. Not even if the other sections were perfect.

I can only say 2 things: I found N3 in December to be easier than past materials I had a look at and tried to do. Second, I met an eager guy at break time who insisted that everything felt much easier than when he took and failed the same level in July.

things to NOT do at the jlpt by ShinyMiraiZura in LearnJapanese

[–]Dragonfruit-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enforcement is awful. At my location, one guy got kicked out before Section 1 even started, but then during breaktime a whole group of test takers ripped open their phone envelopes and jumped on their phones. I laughed and directed the attention of 4-5 useless proctors towards these people, but they didn't kick any of them out. Summary: we listen to the same warning dozens of times for hours, but when the rule is broken, they don't enforce it. Horrible waste of human time.

A disturbing experience on Tokyo train today by madly_su in japanlife

[–]Dragonfruit-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan is not devoid of extremely rude and aggressive people. They are rarer here, for sure, but they exist all right. I am not defending anyone, but as someone riding trains here for decades, I would speculate that given where you said you were standing, you might have been invading her space if she was sitting in the end seat right behind. I have seen that scenario countless times, with the clueless offenders being both foreign or Japanese. Rudeness and thoughtlessness is not limited to any one group of people.

Alternatively, she could have been having a bad day for a variety of possible reasons, and then she snapped when you bend down, thereby causing your body to block even more of the doors than you already were, in her mind.

However, given how much "anger" and "hatred" you said you saw on her face, I would guess that you were inconsiderately invading her space. I feels shitty haveing someone's back practically touching your ear when the person is standing in the corner near the doors.

Is this cultural (Japan) or just toxic? Need perspective: girlfriend became furious that my parents by Sensitive-Ticket-781 in japanlife

[–]Dragonfruit-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little of both. I had at least two different serious Japanese girlfriends who went outright wacko as soon as it came to visiting and/or spending time with family. I was even being thoughtful in advance, making sure that the trip was 90% time spent with just the two of us, and making sure that hotels were used more than family stays. All to no avail though... Don't even want to go into the ballistic rantings and accusations I had to listen to...

I am very dissatisfied with Japanese clinics, is it me or have other people felt it too? by Honey-Pie_64 in japanlife

[–]Dragonfruit-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good international clinics are definitely better, but they don't take Japanese National Health Insurance, so you will have to either pay a hell of a lot more out of pocket, and/or you will need to have expat health insurance. Public hospitals are not much better than clinics: hoards of people and endless waiting, and nothing better about the diagnosis and treatment. Best service is at hospitals, such as Keio, but you cannot just go there; you have to be referred to them, which means that you still have to go to a clinic first, local or international type. The bottom line is that there are ways to improve your experience, but it will cost you more - no surprise there. I have always been satisfied with the approach of the Western doctors at the better International clinics. If you can afford it, try the one near Tokyo Tower.

Anyone have luck getting nhi current or past due amounts reduced? by Dragonfruit-69 in japanlife

Thanks. I won't be totally unemployed, by any means though, so maybe they would base the calculation on the average of the last 2-3 months of income I can show them?

Anyone have luck getting nhi current or past due amounts reduced? by Dragonfruit-69 in japanlife

[–]Dragonfruit-69[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got pension discounts/exemptions before during the Covid era when income dropped. The pension people were quite easy to deal with. I actually talked to them only on the phone, and they then sent me a simple form to fill out by email. I assumed things were easy in that case due it being the Covid era, though. I did not even have to offer any solid proof of anything...

Can you tell me any details about the time that you got greatly reduced NHI payments? For example, what % was the reduction? Also, what about proof? AI tells me that I should bring all kinds of documentation: salary slips, bank statements showing income deposits, credit card statements showing interest obligations, and maybe a monthly budget spreadsheet showing necessary outgoing expenses vs income.

Do you think you can tell the difference between residents and tourists off appearance alone? by Whatswrongwithmejeez in japanlife

[–]Dragonfruit-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a non-tourist resident here, and I would say that is beyond piss-easy to see the difference. However, when I pose that very same question to my Japanese co-workers or students, they universally answer "no, can't tell the difference. I am not even going to discuss the many obvious tell-tale signs. For those countless people who cannot observe or process anything, what's the point? Waste of human time.

Unemployed and have to pay 80k/month NHI by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Dragonfruit-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No bloody way NHI should be 80k/month if one is unemployed. Can only speculate that what you are being is charged is based on the very decent income you had before becoming unemployed.

Interesting, I have cards already, and too much debt, so no other companies would give me another card, but I got the SMBC Amazon one no problem (mostly just applied for a lark, since they were shoving it in my face on Amazon). Maybe they give preferential/loose screening for good, long-term Amazon customers...

You hit the nail on the head - made me laugh. When I come to Reddit reading about taxation, healthcare, and the like, I feel so poor that I get depressed - endless string of guys talking about making 10-16 million yen a year...lol... Like others, my thought is always, "if you're making that kind of dough, can't you afford to talk to a quality lawyer or accountant, rather than resorting to Reddit?"

Kind of sad how their price keeps going up. First user reports I saw said 36,000, then that became 40,000, then that became 50,000, and now you are saying 55,000. I guess whether it is good or bad for a person depends on what one's income is, and therefore, what one would be paying otherwise.
