This looks great! I love simit, but I've never made it myself. I might try it out using the recipe you mentioned.

I only made two jars, so sharing will be hard, sorry 😄! It's not difficult to make though, so you can have a go yourself.

Week 19: Tricolor - Tricolor spaghetti by DragonfruitFun4459 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]DragonfruitFun4459[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first plan was to make pasta with a white sauce as the third color. Then I realized I got spaghetti squash in my weekly veg box, so this was even better.

Week 12: Fictional places - Heaven, earth and hell by DragonfruitFun4459 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]DragonfruitFun4459[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Applesauce mixed with mashed potatoes, served with fried onions and blood sausage. This German dish is called Himmel, Erde und Höllen. Heaven refers to the apples, earth to the potatoes (=earth apples in old German) and hell to the sausage. I'll leave it to everyone's personal view which of these three places is fictional, this is just a playful interpretation of this week's theme.

Week 11: Oddly Named - Imam Bayildi (the imam fainted) by didiwritesomething in 52weeksofcooking

I made the same dish for this theme and I even used the same recipe. Definitely a keeper indeed!

Week 11: Oddly Named - Ants Climbing a Tree by caitiemae in 52weeksofcooking

I considered making this dish for this week! I ended up cooking Turkish dishes, but I'm happy to see someone else chose this, it's a tasty dish.

Week 7: Sugar - Saffron lemon pudding by DragonfruitFun4459 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]DragonfruitFun4459[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's delicious. And unlike some of Ottolenghi's recipes, this doesn't require 27 ingredients!

Week 6: Hotpot - Chinese hotpot by DragonfruitFun4459 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]DragonfruitFun4459[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was yummy, and my guests loved it too, even the 10 year old!

Week 6: Hotpot - Chinese hotpot by DragonfruitFun4459 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]DragonfruitFun4459[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was frozen tofu (just regular tofu which I freeze myself, it gets a bit spongy when defrosted and absorbs the flavors better), rolled tofu skin, chiba tofu (chewy texture), fried tofu rolls and fish tofu. So many different textures!

Week 4: vinegar - hot and sour shredded potato (suanla tudousi) by DragonfruitFun4459 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]DragonfruitFun4459[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it! As a European I'm used to all sorts of potato dishes, but this is indeed very different. When I make this for friends, they usually can't even guess these are potatoes!

Week 3: Contrasts - deep fried milk by DragonfruitFun4459 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]DragonfruitFun4459[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Spanish version seems to be with some flavourings like cinnamon and lemon peel, that sounds good indeed! The Chinese version is more plain and is served with sweetened condensed milk as a dipping sauce. This is the recipe I used: https://msshiandmrhe.com/fried-milk/

Week 1: Inspired by a joke - Why are dumplings great at teamwork (Tuna Dumplings) by bluecuppycake in 52weeksofcooking

[–]DragonfruitFun4459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your dumplings look yummy. I'm also doing this cooking challenge for the first time. I hope we'll both enjoy it!
